Apparently due to my sunny personality, it has never once rained when we've been down there, and since the FA has predicted that we may need to build arks this year, I guess my good luck has run out in the weather dept. What exactly happens when it downpours at WDW. Do they stop the outdoor rides only when there's lightning? Where does every body go, do they just wait it out in the rain or do alot of people leave? I know this seems dumb but really, every time we've gone the weather has been tops.;)

This is not a dumb question - I recall that in May of 2000 there was a downpour and it rained for a few hours. We bought ponchos for $10.00 each (I believe) on Main Street and we continued going on every ride that we could - I believe that they did shut down the outdoor rides when it started thundering. The main thing is that I do not remember the rain slowing us down one bit - we did notice a lot of people hiding out in areas of the park but I don't believe we saw many people leaving the park. It seemed that everyone more or less played the waiting game - hope that info helps:)

We don't let the rain stop us either. We have rain ponchos we purchase at the Dollar Store prior to our trip for both adults and children. Ours are also blue so we can "see" each other a little better than everyone else that is wearing yellow. We just go on the rides as we would normally have but unfortunately have to run from attraction to attraction. Have fun!

thats the best time to go on the rides! No one else is brave enough to stand in line in the pouring rain!

My wife the former "CM" recommends Epcot, if you "Know" it is going to rain on a particular day................something about "More Buildings to go into than any of the other parks"......or "More indoor stuff to do than the other three parks" or something like that................

Thanx guys for your responses!! Really what choice do we have, can't controll the weather, so we'll be going to the parks "weather" we like or not (sorry, couldnt resist):p

everyone here gave you great advice and i followed it when it rained while i was at the park......i also did this....as we were leaving the hotel it began to pour (reallllllllly pour) we decided to go back to the room and took a nice leisurely nap!!! i thought it would be a waste then i realized i was on vacation and went with the flow and took a nap and it was wonderful

this may not work with the kiddos worth a try though

Its set to rain on my Magic kingdom day next week, buti wont let it stop us. We'll go on all the rides. If they cancel Wishes, we'll catch it a different night.

I definitely agree that if you "know" that it's going to rain on a certain day, Epcot is the way to go. Although sometimes it takes longer to walk to a certain thing, once you're there, you stay in the attractions for a long period of time. Animal Kingdom is probably the most outdoors park, and therefore, most uncomfortable to be at when it's pouring.

This is why we never pack our schedule full of restaurant reservations, and we always leave a few days at the end of our trip unplanned, so we can hit things or eat places we had to cancel because of weather.

It's okay for adults, but if you have kids...do they like getting rained on? Is it something they are used to? Even with ponchos, stroller,etc.. it was really hard on our son and we were at Epcot! It was raining hard, just that constant drippping! It was also cold and I coulnd't believe the amount of small children I saw walking around with no hat, not coat, no covering whatsoever in the rain-what are these parents thinking?

My DH and I honeymooned at WDW in September of 2001. One day, our ponchos were leaking, and we decided to be goofy and just chuck them. We did the World Showcase soaking wet, and had a fantastic time. It's one of the best memories I have. (Sept. 11 happened the day after we started our honeymoon, so it got cut REALLY short.)

Of course, all the people IN Epcot at the time thought we were bonkers... :teeth:

I agree. If I was traveling with small children I would duck under cover when it rains. I can't count the number of times I've seen kids without proper rain gear. We're two adults and we always take rain gear with us, just in case.

You must be referring to Wednesday. That's our Animal Kingdom day. We have PS' at Donalds in the AM. Oh well, if it's that bad, we'll go eat and then hit DisneyQuest with the other 1,000's of people! LOL
