I found that lady again, but her husband put his foot down and said no way to them having a dog, so that avenue is out. :(

So now I'm calling around to the rescue orgs to find one that can take him. Man this is hard. :(

I've sent an email to the Chihuahua rescue org to see if they can help -- there's no phone number. The Dachshund one says they don't take mixes.

The rescue org I had in mind is full and won't take any more pets at this point in time. I called Petsmart to see who their org is, but just got an answering machine so won't know if they can help until they call me back.

My friend also recommended the local SPCA. Ours is a no-kill org, but it looks like the pets are apparently kept in cages instead of foster homes? So that's a last choice for me.

Man I feel horrible. :(

Hope you can find someone to take the poor doggy. :wizard:

He is so cute I bet you will not have a problem finding a home for him. Would you consider fostering him until a permanent home is found? If so try

I actually had called one of these (can't remember which) before we decided Tramp was meant to be ours. If I remember correctly, they provide medical care but you have to take him to PetSmart or PetCo on adoption days (until he gets adopted!). At least it might be a possibility for you.

The only problem with that is I'm going to be out of town for 3 weeks and DH can't handle Scamp that well. :/ He does okay with letting Scamp out back then getting him back inside, but that is *it*. He can't even get the leash on this pup, so I don't see him successfully taking Scamp to Petsmart. If it weren't for that, I would *absolutely* foster him until we found him a home. I wonder, though, if maybe someone could work with DH for the weeks I'm gone...

OK, it looks like the second one is for animals who would be hard to adopt which I don't think would be true in your case. Which reminds me, have you had him tested for heartworms? He really needs to be on some type of preventative since the mosquitos in Houston are so bad.

Can you post a picture of him? What part of Texas are you in? We travel to Texas quite often. I know you said he didn't like other dogs....just small dogs? Do you think it's something he can work on?

I haven't done any testing with him at all other than for a microchip.

We're in the Houston area.

He growls at the dogs in our neighbors yards, and growled/nipped at one we encountered that was stray. But ABSOLUTELY I think it is something that can be worked on, if the owner is patient. This dog is *smart*, and is very sweet. I actually think as much as anything else, he's just protective. He is in the nipping stage right now, but even when he's "viciously" growling and snarling at the other small dogs, he hasn't ever bitten me, even when I've grabbed at his muzzle and neck to stop him.

Here's some pics:

OMG, he is adorable. Do you have any guess at how old he is? He's been ok with kids? Housten is a ways from where we go. I have a Chihuahua mix right now and we were looking for a "friend" for her.

I can't really tell, about how big is he?

Well, I know he's a puppy. The vet's office guessed around 6 months old. He's losing his puppy teeth now and is gaining his adult teeth if that means anything.

He's been playful around kids. He *does* nip, just as a warning. I've been trying to train him off of that, but that's one bit of training he hasn't taken fully yet. But, he's been all over the kids I've seen, loving on them, licking them, and wanting to play. He *does* get rambunctious when he's playing, and has a tendancy to gnaw and that would have to be trained out of him. Because of that rambuctiousness, I'm on the fence about him being around 2/4 year olds -- do you have experience with rambunctious pups?

Ummm... for size... let's see... he's lighter than most of our cats... I'd say in the 5-12 pound range? From nose to butt, he's about 15 inches, plus tail.

Ah the nipping bothers me. I have a 3 and 4 yo. Both have been raised to respect our pets but you know how it goes with kids that age. I'm going to ask around. I have friends coming home from south Texas soon. Small dogs like that are very popular around here.

Have you put a classified ad on www.petfinder.com? They have a place for adoptable pets, it is no charge and you'd get to interview prospective families.

Since Scamp is young and small I think he'd find a home fairly quickly.

I had no idea that individuals could put pets on petfinder. Thanks Janette!

Losing teeth? That is way younger than 6 months- closer to 3-4 months. No wonder he is nippy! All pups are nippy when they are teething. Once those teeth are through the nipping will calm down considerably.

Just wondering how Scamp is doing? I wish I lived closer - but I work all day anyway, so it probably wouldn't be fair to have him. I really hope you find him home soon. Good luck! :wizard:

Scamp's doing fine.

We have one lady here on the DIS who is interested in him, and once I can get one more reply from my husband, we'll know if he's going to that family or not. :)

what ever happened to Scamp :confused3
