To echo both PPs, correct. For NYE we did a room-only booking, but could not get our FP until we bought our tickets. I was only then able to make them once they were purchased despite having had a room for 2-3 weeks prior. I did, however, get great stuff still for NYE at only 8-9 days out.

Thanks..... I wish they would allow you to..... I've been booked into my resort for three months but as I dont know how many days we will at a different place.

Buy at least the MINIMUM number of days' ticket that you know you'll be at WDW.
You can then make advance FP+ for that number of days.

You can then, if needed, upgrade the tickets (and add more FP+) after you arrive.
