?? on Sirius xm Radio

We have two cars with SiriusXM and both have lapsed but they won't offer us the 6 months for $25 deal no matter what.

This is going to sound terrible, but this is what I did. I based it on the fact that their overseas operators are following an exact script, and I figure "somewhere" on that script it has to say, "after X amount of time, offer them X". I play totally and completely dumb.
REP: I can't offer you $25, but I can offer you (blah blah blah)
ME: (big dumb blonde pause) But I've been through so much recently (reel off enough crap to sound like a bad country western song), I can only afford $25
REP:That's too bad, I can't offer you $25, but I can offer you (slightly better than above)
ME: (another pause) Long blame the husband monologue ending with, "He won't let me pay more than XX or I can't have it, and I just love it so".
REP: Ok, I can't stand it anymore, you can have it for $25.

Yes, it takes me a looooong time, but I eventually get the price I want, and the poor overseas operator is just glad to be rid of me!

Just wondering, for those that have gotten the 6 months for $25, are you radios built into you car, or has any one gotten that deal with a portable radio? I am wondering as I have 2 Onyx radios so I can take them out of my car and use them at home as I have a speaker dock. I also got them both free as part of a promotion through the Tom Petty fan club. Just wondering if they offer different "deals" to keep you depending on what kind of radio and how you got it.

I always just go "Meh, no, that's still more than it's really worth, I'm not in the car that much" and they keep offering me more and more. One time I did actually have to cancel, but they immediately started emailing and snail-mailing me offers. once they offered me the $25/six months, I called them back up.

I gave them a CC, but I have it on my calendar to call a week before my renewal to say "I want to cancel, I just don;t listen to it all that much..."

Mine is a portable radio that I can take in the house. I don't usually move it from my car because the reception in my house is sketchy.

I'll also add to that conversation this... "Oh, I really can't justify paying that much when I get pandora radio on my iPhone for free" That usually makes them jump to offer me the 6/$25 deal.

We have 2 radios in our cars and we have 2 mobile apps on both our phones. Does anyone else have something silimar and what are you paying. Is it a strict $$/mponth for each radio or is it a package deal for all 4 things?

My DH takes care of the Sirius and I can only imagine what we are paying.

You have way more patience than I do. :rotfl:I tell them how much I'm willing to pay for the year and if that isn't enough, they can cancel our service.

This year, I'm aiming lower than I did last year.

My moms service recently got auto-renewed for $186 (be careful if you pay with a credit card as they do keep it on file and will renew without notice when your sub is up). I told her she was paying way too much so she called and asked for a lower rate. They said there was nothing they could do to help her so she cancelled her service.

About a week later she got an email from them offering a yr at $3.99/month. She went ahead and resubscribed but is pretty mad at herself that she has been overpaying all this time. Lesson learned for her....never auto-renew, always bargain ;)

When you give them you credit card you actually agree to auto-renew in the fine print, or in my case over the phone when I just changed how much I pay now.

Hi everyone

Thanks for all the great info, I will be calling them to discuss our bill soon. I do have another question thou, when I called last year they told me if I had it turned off and then decided later I wanted to turn it back on there was a reactiviation fee, is there?

I know there is a charge to activate a new radio, at least from stand alone units, not sure about those pre-installed in a car after the trial runs out.

My feeling is is that there is a charge to reactivate, but you can always try and tell them if they don't waive that fee you will not re-up.

I can't access my bill from when I started service to find out that the fee is, but I believe it was $15.

We have a portable XM radio, dh bought probably 7-10 years ago. We really only use it when we travel. I don't know how we got this deal - but we pay nothing for service and it's lifetime. After not using for several months, sometimes we have to call to get the service re-activated..still free. We never get any type of mailings from them either. It's great.

We had let it laps several months and did not have to pay a reactivation fee. But I cant recall if that was because of the deal we got or not.

I recently canceled my XM. We just don't listen to it enough even with the 25 dollar deal i felt like it was a waste of money. However we DRIVE to Disney and when we do that the XM is nice. So I was thinking about keeping it for that but after some "google research" I found out that even after you cancel you keep getting offered deals via email an snail mail with offers to resubscribe an each time the reactivation fee is 'waived'. I've already gotten one email offer which was basically just the $25 for 6 months thing with no reactivation fee.

So to answer your question, technically yes there is a reactivation fee but if you get a promotion you can waive that. :goodvibes

I called to subscribe to service and was quoted 199 for the year. Are there any better deals for beginning service?

We did the 6 months $25 plan but I plan on cancelling the day before the subscription is to expire because I refuse to pay more than $50 a year for this. We love having the radio in our van but it's too expensive in my opinion unless they give me a deal. If they can't give you a deal then just cancel it.

The do have smaller terms, I was on a 3 month billing cycle. If you sign up for that one call and threaten to cancel, like the posters above, a few days before the three months are up.

So glad for this thread. I was auto renewed last week. Called to cancel. Got $5 deal
