?? on Sirius xm Radio

I called a few weeks ago, they offered the $25/6 months, I said no, called back this week, and got the entire year for half price after threatening to cancel($85 something plus a bunch in taxes). More than I've paid the past few years, but I really wanted a whole year rate so I wouldn't have to deal with it in six months again...

Terri

That's what I got. $85/12 months.

Ask to speak to the retention department. They will try to get you to discuss with whoever answered, but insist on the retention department. That is who I have dealt with to get the deals. l have never had luck with the general number.

You have to say you want to cancel if you want a better rate.

Frankly, it wouldn't hurt to call even if you are already signed up. Tell them you have heard of better deals, what can they do.

The worst you get is TOO BAD FOR YOU!

You have nothing to lose.

If you don't pay with a CC then how do you pay?

Just curious, we bought a used car and the owner had Sirius. It expires in May, but we are unsure about how to keep it since it's in the previous owners name. My husband likes it but not at a high price.

I have never given them a credit card. I send a check. No way will I give them the option of automatically charging me whatever they feel like for the next year.

Pandora is great if you have unlimited data plans for you phone. I don't so I'm stuck with Sirius. The $25/6 is cheaper than what would pay for extra data to run pandora.

I agree with PPs we had 3 month trial, and I did not renew. Because we like internet radio so much better. You're in control of what is playing not a DJ, and podcasts that you can download for free or a donation are so awesome! We load them right to our USB or phones, and play them in the car.

We renew by credit card and when I got my notice it was also for $160 (I believe). I called and asked how I could get it lowered considering i only have it in my van and it isn't through a portable receiver. The first offer was for $120. I said that wasn't low enough and she asked if they couldn't lower it, if that would make me cancel. My answer was definitely yes.

They transferred me to another department and I got the price of $80/12 months. I hate commercials of any kind and I like that the stations play more than just top 40.

I called the other day and got the $86 for 12 month deal which I thought was a great deal. Until I got the bill in the mail today.
$86 sirius Select 1 year
$10.75 U.S Music royalty Fee
$10.75 Radio Service Fee
$6.14 state tax.

for a total of $113.64
I was told that all fees would be covered in the $86 fee so I guess I have to call back tomorrow and see if they can lower the rates a bit more. I am not going to pay that much for radio.

I have 2 radios and just called them and they gave me a rate of $7.17 per radio per month for a year, that includes taxes and fees. Saves me about $150 a year. I'll take it.

This is worse than pricing seats on a plane.... not a lot of consistency.... they will take as much as they can until you scream stop!

Yeah, it's all the "fees" they add on that hikes the price.

I did cancel, b/c I couldn't decide, then the rep on the phone offered 5 per month, but I said no. Then I called the next day and asked if I could get that rate, and the rep said it is withdrawn. SO ...no biggie, I hadno XM. Then 2 days later I got an email for 4.17 per month for 6 months.:thumbsup2 I took it- it was 25.00 including the fees! for that price,I can listen to my 3 XM stations!:cool1:

Oh, I NEVER send them my cc info,I don't want autopay, and I pay an extra 2.00 for that bill in the mail. It prevents a lot of 'pricing problems' :thumbsup2

I've had XM radio for over 5 years now and I've never paid full rate. I have subscriptions on 3 radios and go through the hassle every 6 months for each of my radios. Then they give you the speech about how this is a "one-time deal and then pricing will revert back to full price". I just tell them that's not true, I've been doing this for years :rotfl2:

They can become a real pain to deal with and have even told me that the 6/$25 deal doesn't exist. But, I have some old radios that I deactivated a couple of years ago and I keep getting those deals in my email so I tell them I know it exists!

One other thing, many people are saying not to give your credit card info. Why not? I do it to make sure my service does not get interrupted. If you monitor your credit card activity, you'll be fine. They usually bill me at full price after the "promotional period", but then I call them back up and go through the same deal. They will credit you back for the unused portion and you'll just end up paying full price for a day or two when you recognize you've been charged. One tip I can give, if you do this route and they credit you back the difference, you MUST request that they give the money on your card. Otherwise they'll keep it on your account and it'll be difficult to tell you've been charged full price next time because they'll use up that credit first, then bill your card.

you just answered your own question...;) that's why. In every online forum, they have horrible reviews when they have access to cc info. Since I don't want to spend more time hassling over dollars, they just send me a bill before it runs out of service...making them send it to me ensures uninterrupted service, as they have no way to get more money unless they do so....the only reason I had a 3 day interruption is b/c I couldn't make up my mind LOL....

When I called to cancel I got 6 months free. Then they offered me 6 months for
25$. I declined. Just don't listen to it as much.
My buddy this morning got the year renewed for 70$
They will do anything to keep people.

Just adding my experience as I just went through this, this weekend. For the record, I *do* have automatic renewal on my cc and I've always received a letter in the mail *prior* to being billed - which is how I knew to call them ahead of the date. As I remember poster mentioned, I write the date on my calendar and then set an alarm for 3 days prior to this so I can call to review it and cancel if needed. I've never had a problem with them billing me something they shouldn't have or earlier than agreed. I do check my cards online frequently. In theory though - I'd prefer them not to do automatic renewal but since I haven't had a problem yet, I just leave as is.

My DH has a new car which came with free 6 mos subscription so I cancelled his older radio and got a prorated refund. I should have called sooner since I forgot we had prepaid it - no biggie. For mine, since I work from home I'm not in the car as much as I used to be and I've had the 6 months for $25 for almost a year now and it was expiring. I asked nicely to have it another 6 months or I'd have to cancel. Of course I was transferred and the call experience itself is never fun but in the end I was given 6 months for $25. It shows on your online account almost immediately so I just keep my account pulled up to ensure they have processed it correctly.

Once my DH's free trial runs out in his car, I'll call to negotiate his as well. I don't like doing it but clearly they are able to offer "deals" to people.

Good luck!
Heather

We have two cars with SiriusXM and both have lapsed but they won't offer us the 6 months for $25 deal no matter what.
