Hi everyone,

Hopefully one of you can help. DD's school is trying to raise money for a new playground. One of the many fundraisers that they are doing is Market Day. Has anyone every heard of this? Market Day seems to be a company that offers restaurant quality food that arrives frozen every few weeks at the school. I've looked at the brochure that came home and some of the items look good, but some of the prices seem a bit high to me. I don't mind spending the money if the food is good.

Anyone have an experience they can share about this?? Thanks.

We just did 3 major playgrounds in our town in the last 1.5 years. 2 at elementary schools, and 1 at our recreation department....I know nothing about this fundraiser you speak of- but let me offer 2 tips

1st- Kaboom www.kaboom.org These people were great. We worked with them on 1 of the schools playgrounds.

2nd- HomeDepot had a group of over 200 home depot employees at one of the builds.!!!

If you dont have HomeDepot- I'm sure Lowe's does the same thing.

Good luck, it's a long road, in all we raised over $400K for these playgrounds all 3 of them had to have demolitoin, removal, and rebuilding! BUT theres no longer a piece of PT wood on a playground in our town!.

Was start to finish 9 months for each area! and they all overlapped uugghh!

Hi, I have been ordering from Market Day for over 10 years.
The food is good but a little pricey. I just keep telling myself it is a fundraiser........They usually have good sale prices of different items from month to month.

Most items are microwaveable making them easy for the kids to make in the morning or after school for snacks.

The meat products aren't as good as they used to be but again convienent.

I have tried quite a few of their items and always reorder.

Our old church back in the Chicago area has sold Market Day for years - they have some really good stuff.

mmmm...i'm hungry now. my school used to do market day, but we don't anymore. some of the food is really good!!! i definitely suggest ordering it. my favorites are any of the chicken products and the chocolate chip pancakes!!! YuMmY!!!! :teeth:

The school I teach at has done Market Day for the past few years. Some of their products are quite tasty. They are certainly convenient -- having a frozen cordon bleu to pop into the oven last minute sure beats many alternatives. But there are some items I didn't like, some I never tried. It is a decent fundraiser for the school -- we made over $1200 last year, all of which went into the new playground fund.

I suggest trying one or two items at first to see if you like it. We have some parents who buy quite a lot of their stuff and keep on returning, so it can't all be bad.

My parent's school district has done Market Day since I was in high school (15 years ago). Their food is really good. Once I got married and moved, my mom continued to buy the chicken breasts for me and bring them up whenever they came to visit (5 hour trip) until we started ordering from Schwan's in our neighborhood. It is a great fundraiser, very popular with alot of school districts.

Market Day is great and profitable for the school. We've been doing it for years and the entire neighborhoodget involved and seems to love the food. It's convienent, easy and good.

This is my second year of Market Day, and I have a pick up on Wednesday. I usually go for microwaveable stuff for quick meals. Some things I like.

French Dip, Barbeque Beef, frozen chicken breasts, and a microwaveable chicken parmesan sandwich. The frozen tropical fruit cups are good too.

On Wednesday, I go to the school gym and pay for the goods. I get a box and grab my things. There is a person at the end whom checks off my order, and I'm on my way. Often they have samples of the food to try. Finally, their website www.marketday.com lists their products by popularity. Yeah, it's expensive, but it's a school fundraiser once a month.

My son's school does Market Day as a fundraiser, and we've been pleased with the products. They can be a little pricy, but it's for a good cause.

We order every month. The frozen chicken breasts are really good. They are 4 oz each and individually frozen so you can thaw what you need. They are also trimmed really well. I've only found small pieces of fat on them.

I am also addicted to their root beer float cups. It's frozen root beer with vanilla ice cream swirled in it. They are sooooo yummy!!

Their are only a few things that I haven't liked from them.

I've been using Market Day products for a long time. Helped with it when my kids were in elementary and now order from the school my DDIL works at. Love the corn and the broccoli. Beef stew is very good also. It's convenient and good quality. There are a few things we don't care for but then we don't order them again.

if you have schwanns, they are very similar in quality. At least they were several years ago. Our school stopped doing market day because it was hard to find people to work at it. Good Luck!!

My DH works across the street from the Market Day warehouse. They have a store which is more convenient for us to utilize over ordering and picking up at the school. They carry everything listed on the flyer as well as other specials. DS's school still gets credit.

We have yet to find anything we don't care for. The only strange thing to me is everything comes in white boxes with labels on them. No pictures. It's hard to identify some of the items without looking at the labels. I'm so used to product marketing that it takes a bit of adjustment.

It's been a while since DH stopped off on his way home. I'll have to go browse their website and see what's for dinner tomorrow night. ;) :D

We participate in Market Day and some of their items are just as good a deal as the store. Their ground beef is a pretty good deal as well as string cheese. Then they have specials that I take advantage of sometimes. I haven't really tried any of their premade dinners so I can't comment on that.

That HAD a peach cobbler cup that was like.....heaven.

I haven't seen it yet this year though.

Market Day funds minor things for us. It does bring us in a little money. I don't really buy stuff from Market Day.

We just did a Tom Evans fundraiser (I know, that annoying order sheet!), and raised 24,000!!! In a matter of a few weeks.

Good Luck!

I'm thinking of giving it a whirl. I think I'll just get a couple of things here and there.

We have ordered from Market Day nearly every month, through 2 different schools that my kids have attended, for over 10 years, and LOVE IT! We have certain items that we will only get from Market Day, like the microwave pancakes, chicken steaks, fruit cups, any of their shrimp items, broccoli, roasted vegetable blend, goldfish crackers, etc., etc. The prices are somewhat, sometimes, higher than the store, but the quality is higher, imo. Take the chicken steaks, these are on sale nearly every week at some store, but they're NOT the tasty, marinated chicken steaks that Market Day provides. I consider Market Day to be a staple for us. ;)

Try some 'on special' items that seem appealing, and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. :teeth:

FYI, re: helpers each month....DD's school is small, and each month they designate a grade to help at the once-a-month pick-up, and there's always enough people to help that way. ::yes:: We look forward to helping, as they always have our orders pre-packed by the time we arrive to pick it up. We also place orders for other family members, too. ;)

IMO, it's better than a wrapping paper fund-raiser every month!

We used to have Market Day at our school and loved it! It was so convenient and the schools could sure use the money.

Unfortunately, they dropped our area! What a disappointment for everyone that used the service. Another, somewhat shady operation came to our school claiming to be "better than Market Day" but we didn't start them up because they seemed very disorganized, didn't have a good selection and the PTO was responsible for much more work. It never panned out. We miss Market Day!

We order Marketday from our sons' school. We enjoy the beef pot roast, Portillos's Italian Beef, rueben casserole, veggie fried rice .....lots of good stuff. I wouldn't want to head up that project but I like to participate!
