I even went to my local Library.. The last editiom they had was 2000. Do you believe it? We just paid 14,000,000.00 for a new library and thats all they had...

AGH.. that would totally stink!! We live in a decent size town but are very lucky to have a great library system. They have about 3 copies of the 2005 version (old now lol!) and a total of 8 copies I think.

I am waiting for the revised version to come out and I will buy us our first official copy. I have to stop being a book hog at the library and let some other Disney addicts have a turn with it! LOL

You're doing better than us! Our library has NO DISNEY BOOKS! And I went into find a travel book about New Mexico and Arizona and you know what they had?? 1996/1997 editions of the Mobil (as in gas company) travel guides. BORING and OLD!! Absolutely useless! Maybe I should donate my copy of the 2003 and 2004 UG and Birnbaum's... old to me, but better than nothing!............P

As a former President of a public library board, I can tell you that funding for libraries is getting cut BIG TIME and board members are getting stuck trying to raise a lot of money. A very hard feat if you live in a rural area or have just a few volunteers trying to raise many thousands of dollars. In Pennsylvania, Gov. Rendell's first budget cut state library funding by 40% and PA was already near the bottom of the list when it came to funding. Libraries are cutting hours, cutting collections and programs. Why legislators don't see the importance of public libraries just puzzles me...:confused3

It's a very sad thing. If you want to donate items to your local library, I'm sure they'd love them...if they couldn't use them for their collection, they'd be able to sell them at a local used book sale and make some much needed money. Or better yet, the next time you borrow a book or movie at the library, throw a buck or two at the librarian. It doesn't have to be a lot. They can greatly use it and would very much appreciate anything you could give. Plus, it would still be a lot less than what you'd spend at Amazon.com or Blockbuster.

Getting off my soapbox now...

I can completely appreciate that, BUT why do we have 14,000,000.00 to spend on construction but not on the books to fill it? The shelves are empty. Its a disgrace. But we do have 2 new plasma screens side by side telling you where to go. I would love to tell them where to go.. sorry, my taxes just shot up and we had no say into the building of this library.

aaakkkk..I want this boook...my town does NOT have in yet in any of the stores I have checkedl...one very quick question,,,,will the COVER be the same?Len may know this.........

Yes I plan to order from Amazon as well, so the ISBN is very important :) I'm also wondering if perhaps brick and mortar shops such as BooksAMillion or B&N (or maybe even Amazon too!) will wait until they've sold the copies that they have of the first 2005 version before even ordering the updated one? Any thoughts on that? I went into BooksAMillion the other night just to check out the much heralded UG :) and they had SEVERAL copies on the shelf.

So, does anybody have the ISBN on the updated 2005 version? I also want to order from Amazon, but I don't want the old new one, I want the new new one!

Excellent questions. I'd send them straight to the library's Board of Directors as well as your County Commissioners or Local Officials (if you have a County/Municipal library tax). If you're paying a library or any other kind of tax that is funding the library, you absolutely have a say and you should allow your voice to be heard. Sounds like someone put the cart in front of the horse...

I can't imagine spending that kind of money. Our little branch library had a budget of only $48,000 and that had to pay for the utilities, salaries for 2 employees, benefits AND the collection. Needless to say, we depended a lot on the generosity of patrons and fundraising. BUT, we do have the 2004 Unofficial Guide on our shelves at my suggestion. :goodvibes

I emailed Amazon about a week ago and they had no new book or ISBN at this point. Ditto for my local book seller. :confused3

I could not figure out how to contact the publisher directly for verification that this is not some huge cyberspace rumor. Can you imagine the bath they will take if this is true? What will they do with all the outdated books? I'm guessing they are letting inventory of those run out and then release the updated version or skip it entirely this year and update for 2006.

My question is this: didn't they know about the coming of DYW? This is all put out by the same Disney machine, right?

The Unofficial guide is NOT put out by Disney - thus the name unofficial guide ;) The first I heard about it was in a mousesavers newsletter late last year, and I think that the 2005 version of the books went to press before that time. I could be wrong on that but it makes sense :earsboy:

Since they weren't officially announced until January and the books are put out in Aug/Sept/Oct. And likely completed in June, there is always outdated information in the guide books.

Birnbaum is know as the OFFICIAL Guide and I believe it IS put out by Disney.
The publisher search sends me back to Disney.
