We leave first thing in the morning for the the Fort. Of course we won't arrive until Aug. 5th as we will tour around Florida first. I hope I can get wifi everyday to check back here to read all the updates.

Thanks, when we get there I will do some posts of just how hot is is in August. LOL. :rotfl2:

Be safe and good luck. Hope you guys have a great time.

Hey! A fellow Connecticut'er- we're down the road a piece near Trumbull

Have a safe trip and an awesome vacation

We will be arriving at the Fort on August 3 and will be there until the 11th.

My first trip to the Fort since I was 8 (28 years ago). I cant wait. My kids love camping and this will just add to the excitement.

Have a great time! I am trying to drag myself away from the Fort (I even got the Passport America discount card), so I would love to read your reviews on some of the Florida campgrounds you went too. Do you have a blog or something I can follow?

We just left the fort, and it was quite hot! It was my first time there since the mid-70s. (Yes I'm old). :goodvibes As long as you have a good AC you will be fine, at night I was even freezing. Have a great trip and safe travels!

Checking in. We are in Key Largo and leave for Big Pine Key tomorrow on our way to Key west. As far as campgrounds we have been staying at the state parks and just love them. All on the beach. Just found out one of our kids and family are dropping out of the DW trip so one empty campsite at the fort. Sad but we will still have our hands full with the rest of the family.

Largo then Big Pine?

Were you at John Pennekamp SP in Largo and going to Bahia Honda SP on Big Pine?

Pennekamp closed for several months to refurbish their campground area. What did you think about it?

We went to the Keys for a week last year in March and ended up staying in a private campground near Key West (Boyds). We did visit BH for the day, though, and I would have liked to have stayed there; however the winter/spring months are very busy in the Keys and campsites book full nearly every night at the 11-month window. (we did tack on one-night stays at the Fort both coming and going to the Keys).

I know you are headed to the Fort soon but if you could tell us about your Keys activities (maybe pix) I for one would appreciate it. I'd like to head back to Largo and stay at Pennekamp for several days (and maybe just do Key West on a day visit this time).

Thanks for the update! :drive:

Robin (Grammy), me (Papa), and Son's family arrive with our trailers in tow August 12th. We were there last June and can't wait to get back this year. Safe travels to all!:cool1:

I wish we were headed down with all of you! We still have a few weeks left before we get to go!

Sorry for the delay. Not much wifi and way too much fun so I haven't been checking. First Florida stop was Sebastian Inlet state park (2 nights) and we loved it. The on to Pennekamp (4 nights). Full hookups and the campground was nice but I didn't love the beaches. Just OK. I think we have photos and when we get home I can post them for you. Bahia Honda was awesome. Can't wait to go back. We were there for 3 nights and did the snorkel trip. Great. Pennekamps was good but BH was better. We stored our camper at Boyd's for 3 nights and stayed right in old town on Simonton just a block from everything. Then we camped for 1 night in Flamingo in The Everglades and had the entire campground to ourselves. LOL. No one else is dumb enough to camp there in July. You do have to book the keys state parks 11 months out. I drug my feet a little because we still wern't sure so we ended up not getting a water site in BH. If you get to book one of these be careful about the bridge. The people across from us were on the water and the traffic on the bridge was very loud. We are now on Sanibel Island for 4 nights. Also awesome. We leave for FW on Sunday. So ready for my Mickey and Tink fix. pixiedust: Hope it is not as hot there as it is here. But I will deal with it. LOL. I will have hubby upload those photos before we leave here. Today is our 26th wedding ann. :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:
