My wife and i own a villa 15 minutes from the magic and visit Disney 3 times a year.
Recently i have taken an interest in the DVC as a means to staying in a quality resort among the Disney magic. My plans are to buy 200 points in the AKV and use the points to stay midweek (avoiding the weekend's) during our visits. My wife is not convinced that their is a need for both the villa and the DVC.
We have a tour booked for the end of April and have the blue book and dvd already but was wondering what the experts thought.
Thank you
Paul

It is a personal preference, some prefer off property, some on. DVC will add a lot to your costs as would any on property stay. Using if for weekdays and avoiding weekends will add a considerable value though. Which resort do you own off property?

So you own a whole condo or similar, not a timeshare. There are other options that might give you better non Orlando trips as well such as other timeshares.

I think DVC would compliment your villa nicely for the times you wish to enjoy WDW. While there are certainly other options, none offer the same flexibility as DVC regarding stays within WDW where you can reserve those options 11 months ahead - especially when you can easily avoid weekend stays. You might even be able to enjoy a smaller DVC purchase (depending on the size of the villa you'll need and the dates you want to stay).

We have recently made a similar purchase (although not as close as yours) and will use DVC to compliment our stays in the future.

Enjoy! :)

thanks for ur replies. dh and I often listen to dis podcasts and notice the dvc is always highly recommended by the cast who live in Orlando. Our dilema is do we buy in when we already own a lovely villa? Is it worth it just to stay on disney property for maybe 5 days each visit we make?:confused3

We live in Orlando (near the airport) and own DVC. Bought while we lived in PA. After our move we waited a year to see what we wanted to do about DVC. We added on at AKV when it became available. We really enjoy being on property for extended stays. We do day trips as well, but it is not quite the same.

We also own MVCI (Marriott) for non-Disney holidays. If you buy DVC, we advise that your best value is to use it for the DVC resorts.

I would try staying at a DVC resort for 5 days during your next trip and see if you think it's worth the extra cost. You could either rent from Disney or rent the points from a DVC owner. Personally, I don't know if I'd do it if I owned a condo so close by. But it may be right for you.
