Hi all stayed at Disney lots of times mainly DVC but have never used Online Check in, can anyone tell me what are the benefits of this ie why do you do it what does it actually save when you get there?

Assume u dont find out where room is?

Thanks in advance x

My question to you is "why not?":confused3

It's a service they offer, to (in theory) make your check in process faster upon arrival. That is all that is advertised.

If that sounds good to you, do it. If not, don't.

Either way you still have to visit the front desk, and no, you don't know your room number in advance.

I still don't understand why people think about this so much:confused:

This is not meant to come off as crass, BTW, I just legitimately don't understand the conflict about it...and there are at least 3 threads posted on this subject per day. If you do a search, you'll see the discussion points all spelled out.

Sorry didn't mean to upset anyone and wasn't digging at Disney was asking a genuine question what are the benefits just didn't understand if you have to go to front desk anyway why would you do.

Should have searched forums just not that great on here.

Sorry

No need to be sorry! I was far from upset and I just know that this gets asked a lot and it's the same discussion every time.

When I was offered on line check in the 1st time, I was just like "cool" :cool1: Makes the trip seem even closer.

I didn't think about it much beyond that, and we've done it ever since.

Yes, you still have to go to the front desk, but they will have a folder ready with all of your stuff all ready so you just grab and go (again, in theory)

We've done it at least 3 times, it's a lot quicker. :thumbsup2
Also we've always gotten the room we requested, probably a coincidence. :confused3

for us (aside from the obvious it's quicker benefit) I always feel like it gives them the "heads up" as to when we're expecting to arrive.

Generally we arrive (driving down overnight) by 10 am. I've found by using online checkin our room is often available when we get there. It probably helps we tend to travel during the 'off' season so there are empty rooms. For us it's awfully nice to just have somewhere to take a quick shower before hitting the parks.

I have done it twice and it is awesome!! The speed of it and this time are room was ready!!! So, by 11 am we were on our way to DHS!!! We were given red carnations upon arriving at the front desk and just after we received our folder with info:) What a way to start our Girls Only Trip :) Pixie Dust all the way around..

If you have room requests, its better not to for two reasons: 1. its easier/faster to switch your room under standard check-in if you are assigned to a room you are not fond of and 2. they try to put online check-in folks into rooms that are ready at their arrival time, and requests are looked at secondary (if at all). So, rule of thumb is if room request is most important to you, do regular check-in. If you have no room requests or prefer you have a room ready when you arrive, do online check-in. I also suggest online check-in if you are arriving during a busy week (Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.) or even a busy day like a late Saturday morning. It will save time.

You stated you did not want to come across as crass, but you did! I hope I never have a question that you feel the need to respond to. Otherwise enjoy life and I hope you and your family will always enjoy the magic that is Disney.:goodvibes

Unfortunately, Internet discussion boards don't allow you to convey a message the way you would in real life.

Obviously, I realize it sounded harsh, which is why I wanted the OP to know it wasn't my intention. But those are the exact words I would have used in real life. In real life, it would not have come off like that.

It's funny, however, how easy it is to pick up on sarcasm on the boards. :thumbsup2

You did not come across as crass at all, or anything other than helpful. People tend to read "tone" into posts and the tone they interpret can have more to do with them than with you. People need to realize it is just a chat board, not a complex and nuanced novel.

In any case, I have a feeling that people nervous of doing online check in just think that you show up and they hand you your room key and send you on your way without the detailed personal service that you usually get at regular check in. I've never done online check in and am also on the fence for my trip next month, so all these opinions are helpful, and I don't care what tone the opinions come in.

Well, as I said before. I don't see a reason not to do it, unless you are very specific in your room requests, because if you don't get what you want you are going to have to be reassigned (and thus take more time) while perhaps people behind you who do want to grab and go are waiting.

We have had experiences where we still had to wait 20-30 minutes to check in, and sometimes where we didn't wait at all.

I can say that we often arrive very early, and I think OLCI has helped in our having our rooms ready when we get there. (It could be coincidence though).

We have also experienced a significant upgrade despite doing OLCI, which is another question that is often asked, so doing OLCI has no affect on your chances for that.

Awesome info. Thank you so much. I may just online check in tonight due to your posts. Thanks again!
