On hols now!

I don't know how you guys keep your tempers with people who stare and question. If anyone said "What the matter with your kid, retarded or crippled or what?" I wouldn't be able to stop "Well, what the matter with you? Just rude or stupid too?" coming out of my mouth. We usually don't get too many questions, most people rightly assume when they see my father with his guide dog that he's blind. We get the occasional stare, usually more of a "look at the dog" thing than anything else, we get more of the backhanded comment thing like "Must be nice not to wait in line because you have that dog..."

I think the worst/best experience with that kind of person was last year at Crystal Palace (I have this posted elsewhere so bear with me if you're read it) We had ADR's and when we checked in I asked that we be seated at a table out of the way so no one going back and forth to the buffet, or servers for that matter, would have to step over the dog. They said it'd be no problem. About 10 minutes later we were called, ahead of another family who had checked in before us, purely because a table out of the way had come up. The father of this family noticed and in a loud sarcastic voice that carried over the whole porch said "WOW must be nice to butt in front of other people just because you have that dog with you, even though WE were here first." I whipped around very ready to lay into this guy, but an older man from another group put his hand on my shoulder and stopped me, got close to the yeller and said "I hope you realize how badly you've just embarrassed your family for saying that (which the mother and 2 sons looked mortified that he'd done this) and have now cemented yourself as "that a$$hole" in the minds of all these people.''

Good for you guys to be able not to lose it with the rudeness and the staring, I just don't know how you do it!

A lot of pople stare at DD because of her reaction to things....she doesnt have any speech but does vocalise when she gets very excited plus she will jump up and down and wave her arms if she gets really excited! So at times like that I understand the stares! The one amazing thing on this trip is that almost everyday we are meeting people who come over to say "we say you guys at MK or AK" and yesterday DH was in the pool with DD at Typhoon and lady came over and say she had seen us in Blizzard Beach and that DD seems to be having a super time! So DD is making us stand out for all the right reasons!
When children stare (small kids who dont understand) I normally try to engage them in conversation by saying "This is Marsha(DD) and Marsha`s eyes dont work so her hands are her eyes plus she doesnt hear very well so she cant speak to you" Then I get Marsha to sign Hi and try to get the little kid to do it also! Its the adults who should know better that stare and when you catch them staring and they dont stop that really annoys me but as I put on an earlier post DD really does not cope with it at all he is just so protective of his little princess  But I guess there will always be rude people in the world but the majority of people are good and kind and I always pray that they are the ones who will cross our paths as we journey thru life.
And so another day dawns on this incredible trip...DH was up at 5am to head to Cocoa beach for his ultimate fishing day! He was like a kid on Christmas eve yesterday getting all his stuff together lets hope the fish are biting!! DD is having a much needed lie in and the plan is to head to the hotel pool at 11am. Her nose is still blocked and God love her she keeps taking my hand and tapping her nose as if to say "Mom fix it please" as her Mom she thinks I can fix everything and it always breaks my heart when I cant fix it instantly. Hopefully it will clear abit to day and she can get back to her happy little self. She went to bed with her swim suit in her hand as she knows its a day at the pool...swimming or any kind of water play is DD real passion in life. Whenever we are on holiday DD is always the star attraction at the pool because of her reaction... her peels of laughter can be heard for miles!! :cool1: Better go as the pool is calling.........

Oh, I hope Marsha's nose is better, and that DH loved his day on the water, and you ladies were able to relax and refresh. If it's not better in the am, the hotel could probably direct you to an urgent care, kind of like a clinic, where a dr could see her and prescribe something else for the congestion and pressure.

I am so glad your family is having such a great time. I bet they are just watching your daughter because she is absolutely beautiful and they are in awe of her.

Just back from a day at blizzard beach....DD head cold is a lot better but now me and DH have it!! DD once again loved the family raft run and as it was way busier today than last Sunday we had to que for longer but this proved a great experience for Marsha as she had time to touch and smell all the trees and shrubs along the area where you que for the ride. It was fun to watch other people do what Marsha was doing and then later in the pool a man came over and asked what was DD`s name as he had been watching her in the que and said he had never realised that the trees had such a wonderful smell until he copied what Marsha was doing! Isnt that great she is showing people stuff they would normally miss out on....way to go girl!! Just 2 full days left to go before this amazing holiday comes to an end but we have built memories that will last a life time. A shopping/hotel pool day the plan for tomorrow and then Friday our last day at MK and then the plane home on Saturday and then a month of early nights to recover from this trip

Just about to head out to dinner on our second last night....cant believe how quick the 2 weeks have gone....all that Disney magic I guess! Had a nice relaxing day to be honest we all needed it! Tomorrow we head to MK for our final day and to say goodbye to Mickey and Minnie...DD all excited about her upcoming day and has make up her own sign to indicate the rides...she puts her 2 hands up in the air! Will post a longer report on our amazing trip when we get home....hugs and kisses to all

DD had so much fun just standing in the rain with her face turned to the sky! She so loves the elements....a windy wet day are her favourite! This trip is really showing us how far our special little girl has came as she spent her first 8 years in a Russian orpanage. She is now the light of our lives and it is DD that is making this trip so magical. Hoping to do down town Disney tonight if the rain ever stops!!

Well this post just brought a tear to my eye, how beautiful. I'm sure you feel very lucky to have your special little girl, and she is very lucky to have such a loving, wonderful family. Hope you continue to have plenty of pixie dust blown your way during your vacation and thanks for sharing your story.

:wizard:

I'm so glad she's feeling better; I hope that your last day is at least as magical as the rest!!!

Just back from our last day at MK and it was truly magical! I said to DH bet today will be full of pixie dust and he asked what is pixie dust!! God he is so not into Disney  and then our day started on a real high! The lady on the train taking us from the carpark to the enterance came over to Marsha and gave her an exclusive tinkerbell pin! All the other little kids around where wondering why Marsha got the pin and it make us feel that we had such a special little girl with us...I wanted to burst into tears and hug that dear women! We did all of Marsha`s favourite rides including the runaway train twice...she was on a high all day and giddy with excitment! We then went to see Mickey and Minnie in the Judges house to say good bye as we had gone there on our first day 2 weeks ago to say hi so it seemed right to finish our trip with a goodbye hug plus we were trying to explain to Marsha that the trip is nearly over and we all must go home. So back at the hotel packing the suitcases....groan! Will post a longer report on the trip when we get back home. We leave Orlando tomorrow at 5pm and will arrived in Ireland at 9am Irish time on Sunday morning...well thats the plan as along as there is no flight delays so here`s to the pixie dust staying us with! Hugs and kisses to all and enjoy your weekend

I've so enjoyed hearing about your wonderful trip! Last week, my 19 yr old daughter, who has special needs, and I did a Disney trip by ourselves........on the last day I actually did cry and hug a worker in the parking area who really went out of her way to help us - so many times the cast members just went WAY above and beyond and made things so much easier for us! It was a delightful surprise! I guess I have gotten beyond wondering what people must think of us - I actually don't think I saw one other person staring at us - not because they weren't doing it, but because other people (and their rudeness) just didn't even register with me on this trip. And I hadn't realized that til I read your posts, so thanks for bringing that to mind!

Hope you have an uneventful trip home - we're still recuperating from our Disney week!!! :rotfl:

Sorry for not posting sooner but i have been having problems logging on to this forum. Just to let you know we arrived back in Ireland Sunday morning safe and sound...thankfully all planes on time but we were all exhausted after an 9 hour flight! what can I say about the trip except it was truly magical from start to finish and watching DD`s reaction to everything she experienced was really the icing on the cake! Marsha keeps making the signs for the rides and it is so hard to explain to her that it will be a while before we return to the magical land that is Disney...but return we will :woohoo: I will poet a longer report on our trip in the coming week....need to get my thoughts together! Once again thanks for all the kind posts during the trip it was always great to log on to the forum and hear your thoughts. Love and light from Ireland
