in order to qualify for the free dining plan, do you have to book the whole package, ie room tickets and food? what if you already have the passes? can you book room only and still get free dining?

You need to purchase at least a 1 day ticket.

You must buy get room and tickets and everyone in the room must buy the same tickets. I have an AP, but my son and D-I-L do not.

What alot of AP holders did was buy just a one day MYW base ticket. They'll use their AP once they get down there and save the one day ticket to apply to their AP next year. What I did was go ahead and buy us all 7 day MYW tickets with pluses. I don't plan to renew my AP next year, so now have a 7 day ticket with pluses to use for a trip next spring after my AP expires. The CM suggested I do this and even suggested I upgrade to a 10 day pass once I get there, as it would only cost me $11.00 more. I think I'm going to wait though. I hope to take my GD with me when I go back next spring and would like to buy us both 1 day base tickets, so I could then buy the dining pkg. I would then upgrade her ticket to match mine once we got down there.

ok, does this mean I can buy 3 6 day park hopper passes in advance of my reservations and only buy 1 with the package and still get the free dining for everyone?

If you all have the same tickets, you paid rack rates for your room, you;ve asked for the dining package and the agent confirms that it is available for your dates then it's "free". You each have a dining package.

Also, I booked last week and AirTran was having a web only special...$49 each way! My family of 4 is flying for $467 including tax...so excited. With the dining package, my whole 7 day trip to All-Star Resorts with Park Hopper trip is $1400 and that includes 4 one day MK tickets (we already had AP's) so, the trip is really $1200!!!

I am soooo patting myself on the back!

Won't a base ticket expire? OR does the clock not start ticking till you activate it?

I figured I'd do this for our trip in April (we're purchasing APs for our November trip so we'll use them again in April) and said as much to the TA. She checked and came back, telling me that the 1 day base ticket expires 14 days after it's activated, which I suspect means the day you check in. However, I've heard before that people have purchased the 1 day and held them to use against AP renewals. I want to do this, since we can then purchase the meal plan. Even if AP rates come out (and are $100 off the room), our meal plan would cost $98/day and our AAA discounted room is a $26.25/day savings ($124.25/day cost). I think we'll eat more than that value every day, so it's probably worth it to keep the plan, but not if I cannot use the 1 day ticket as value against a renewed AP.

Anyone actually done this and can absolutely validate it?
