$$ on cards for kids?

Ok...Just to clarify....

If there are 4 people in ONE stateroom, each person's individual KTTW card can be linked to a separate credit card???

My older DS has a Visa Buxx card. If the above is correct, we could simply link his KTTW card to HIS Visa card....right?? We could open a Visa Buxx card for younger DS too.

Thanks in advance for clearing up this question for me! :)

P.S. I don't want to infer that we don't trust our DSs with charging privileges, because we do, but I think they'd like using their "own" cards for their purchases. ::yes::

Yes thats right. My friends had 3 different cards linked up to each member of the family in their stateroom.

Like Alex said, I'm not worried about my teens spending too much, they know the consequences from dad, but my concern is if they lose the card. Are they responsible for any charges that a finder might incur? DD14 is ok but DS16 loses everything. Dont want to cut his privileges and allow her to keep them. Any suggestions?

When I called DCL they said we could use four different pre paid visa cards or our four kids. Each would have a set amount on the KTTW card that they we would allow them to spend. WHOO I was excited. We trust our kids to spend only what we allow them BUT are worried about someone finding one of the kids KTTW cards should they lose it.
They told us even if we use the pre paid visa for the kids and if the KTTW card were to get used for over the amount of the pre paid visa that DCL would just charge the parents cards instead of turning off the card.
We think the DCL should figure out some way of letting parents set a limit for kids. We had only wanted to give the kids about $50 each to spend as they wish. On special drinks or neat sovenirs.
On our last cruise each time the kids wanted something they would have to come find us and we would go it. NOT FUN
Yes I have already heard about "just check your room account each day, It shows each persons charges" Maybe if you only have a couple of people. But we have 6 so I am not interested in extra paper work while on vacation.

Also: since DCL does not ask a kid for a photo id how do they know if the correct kid has the right KTTW card? We found more then one kids KTTW card and one of our kids could have easily used it. We turned the cards in right away BUT I wonder if our family would be so lucky if one of our kids lost a card.

So if you are reading this DCL PLEASE let parents set limits on the KTTW cards or at least put photo id's on the cards. I had a friend who sailed on another line tell me ALL cards on her recent cruise had a photo of the owner.

On our 11/29 Eastern DD's 13 and 11 each had a "hot" card. I felt that they were old enough and responsible enough to handle it....and I was right. They each purchased some gifts for friends (after they asked us if it was o.k.), some smoothies and game cards were also on their charges. I picked up a copy every morning at guest services and left it on the dresser just to let them know I was keeping an eye on them.

OK now let me get this straight too, LOL (I'm a little slow:headache: )

In other words, I can link my CC onto MY key, and let each one of the kids bring or take they're own disney dollars/cash/amex card and apply it to they're OWN key...for themself...? Literally, you dont have to have a CC linked to your key, right? It can be done with the cash/DD/amex, correct?

This is confusing but a very nice idea!

Also~ If youns look at spending the $250.00 the way that jgalecpa and aprilgale2 does, I suppose it brings light to it... I will buy my kids teeshirts and some other souveniers but when youns mention the hairbraiding, jewerly, smoothies, popcorn, etc...it does make sense.
When I first read that and seen that $250.00, it blew my mind to think that a 'kid' can/would blow that much moola in a week! But, we are on vacation and if it is they're money...especially if they have earned it. Like mentioned, kids will look and think a little bit differently when it is THEIR own money they are spending, LOL!

Thanks kids! :wave2:

One thing to consider when setting your child up with his or her own card: excursions. These'll be listed individually under each person's name. So if you're planning to go on an excursion that costs $25 per person, be sure you put an extra $25 on the child's card. Otherwise you'll mess up the learning experience you're trying to create!

I'm also in shock about the $250 for a 14 year old girl! I think that's excessive, but that seems to be the trend these days.

If they lose the card all you have to do is stop by or call guest services and it is immediately turned off. No biggie

So if someone elses kid uses my kids card before I can get to guest services and turn it off "it's no biggie"?

I guess DH & I are the only ones worried about someone else using the card.

On our last cruise we didn't allow the kids to charge (17, 15, 13, 11). If they found something in the gift shop they wanted they just had them hold it at the desk until we went shopping and we purchased it with our card.

Padre Disney... I'm not trying to minimize your concern but the magic isn't exactly a hot bed of crime. DD has lost her card once, it was turned in to guest services within the hour. Among her "crew" one has lost her card 5 times and the other 3... nothing has happend.

where would you get american gift cards?? I would like to do that for the cruise and for WDW.

I believe it was his AAA office. You can also try the Visa Gift Cards which can be bought at malls.

Is there visa cards that you can get to add funds to with out having to be an teen?? I think this would be a great way to save for the trip.. I did go and get my daughter one, I figure it's a great learning experience for her, and we can see how much she has on it before we leave.

Apparently these pre-paid cards are widely available -- I didn't know that before reading about them on this board! I saw a sign at the GAS STATION of all places. They sell pre-paid VISAs there! Who knew!

New question on the same topic of children having a "hot" card (able to charge on it)-- do ALL children, even in the clubs without sign in/out privileges need to carry their KTTW card at all times? And if so- I need to know... so I can make sure they have pockets. LOL I can't imagine my (at that time) 4yr old and 7yr old keeping up with those things! LOL

My dd (8) didn't have signing in /out privs. Maybe next cruise, but I wasn't comfortable have her do this. We got her one of those underwater holders on a necklace at Mickey Mates onboard and she wore that the whole trip. When we cruised the first time she was 6 and wore it around her neck constantly - wouldn't take it off :). We saved it and she used it again this time.

In fact, we all had them this year. I got the little bigger one to hold cash/cards etc when we went off the ship at the ports instead of carry around a wallet and it worked great! I highly recommend it.

That's a great idea- but even with the id around the neck, I could see either of my youngest two removing it/playing with it/etc. Do they HAVE to have those with them at all times? I guess I'm thinking they do... so the counselors can remember who is who? I mean like for them to have "id".

A child without signing out priveledges nor charging priveledges does not need to carry their card. I carried my DD7 and DD5 cards with me at all times. The only time their cards were required was getting off and on the ship.

Regarding "who is who" in the club: When a child is registered, they get a wrist band with their name, and I think their room number (if there is a room number, it is not easily seen, so you don't need to worry about others seeing this information). It also includes a bar code. Each time they go into the club, the wrist band is scanned. When leaving, they are checked out by the parents, who must provide a pass code. Not for security, but each child also gets a badge with their name on it. As they check into the club, a colored sticker is put on the badge, to help keep kids grouped together.

We booked through AAA, so all cards had a soda sticker. This made it easy if I was getting a soda for myself and DW. I didn't need to get DW card, I used one of DD's.

While onboard, there was a time when DD's wanted their cards. DD's would ask for their cards when going to the room; they both liked to unlock the door.

Ah, that's right! I'd forgotten about the wrist bands (but wasn't sure what all was on it). Thanks for letting me know! :)
