This will be my first international trip in a while (babies can sure put a crimp in exotic travel plans ), and I just looked at my credit cards. They all have what I consider to be pretty high foreign transaction fees. :scared1:

Do they do the on-board account in one transaction or several?

If I buy Disney gift cards, can I avoid the fee?

Next question, I know if I don't spend it all, I will get the balance back on the card. What if I do spend it all and need more? Can I add a credit card at that point thereby decreasing the amount of the transaction?

In terms of online check-in, do I select Cash/Other as my option if I am using gift cards?

Are there any other options I'm not thinking of?

They can do it in a few when it hits $700 and every time it hits that. (Thats Disney Magic other short cruises on shorter cruises may be lower).

If I buy Disney gift cards, can I avoid the fee?- It will reduce them to what you use.

Next question, I know if I don't spend it all, I will get the balance back on the card. -Yes

What if I do spend it all and need more? It debits the credit card used on online check in.

You add during on line check in.

Suggestion

I am from the UK I use a FairFX card in USA$ I put my DCL transactions through that, I top up when the exchange rate is good, so I choose the rate and there good. There is no transaction fees. Any refund is on them. Gift cards is purchased at a Disney corporate rate so you loose there.

It looks like you are from the mid-west, presumably US. I believe all DCL ships process in US funds as domestic (US) transactions. Your only foreign transactions will be if you spend money off the ship in port -- and Disney gift cards won't help with that.

Enjoy your cruise!

Oh! I thought since they were flagged as foreign ships, they processed as foreign. That would be great and reduce the hassle considerably.
