Has anyone stayed at the Omni Championsgate? We are looking for an offsite trip for this winter sometime. I've read everything on the forums and Tripadvisor...just look for some other reviews on here if anyone had one. Thanks! :)

It's a very nice resort. They have a nice pool area with a slide and lazy river, and great restaurants, takes about 10 minutes to get to the parks from there on I-4 to world drive.

We have passed it hundreds of times .... but only been in there for a look.

It is of high standard as it is used by the golfers who have 2 X 18

hole golf courses surrounding it. ( Champions Gate ... Championship Courses )

I would think you could see the higher fireworks from disney from the building

It is quiet area But it is near I 4 & Hwy 27

Publix & various eating places including McDonnells are within a mile.

Nature is at the doorstep at this resort.

I stay here all the time when I'm in Orlando for non-Disney trips. I wouldn't want to drive to the parks every day from it (it usually takes me about 20-30 minutes depending on traffic), but I have stayed here when I only went to Disney for the Food & Wine Festival or to meet friends at Downtown Disney in the evening.

The lazy river is great!!! We usually hang out there or by the "formal" pool. The family pool looks nice, but we've only walked past it to eat at Croc's. I *think* when we had a upper floor room that overlooked the pool/golf course we could see Disney fireworks in the distance...not positive though, I might be thinking of a different hotel.

I don't have kids, so I can't comment on the kids' programs - but Omni also does dive-in movies, has a firepit, and has bagpipes play at sunset by the Clubhouse (take the golf-cart shuttle to it from the back of the hotel). Before you go - join their free loyalty program. You'll get free bottled water your first night and free beverage in the morning (we usually get juice, can't remember the other options). They also do express check-in/out, so you just walk up & grab your room key w/no waiting and turndown service (if you ask).

The only downside for me is the parking fee ($16? 18?), but most Orlando-area resorts have that.

We stayed there in 2012. It was a beautiful hotel and we got it for a great rate on hotwire ( I want to say $84 a night ). It actually was one of the nicest hotels we every stayed in.

Cons were we had to pay a lot for parking and resort fees.

If you do stay there, it wouldn't hurt to check out betterbidding.com to see if people are winning it on hotwire.com. I also recommend singing up for their rewards program.

Sounds nice!

So you think it's too far from the parks? Shucks. It didn't look that bad on google maps but maybe that isn't taking traffic into account? We only go once a day (we don't take breaks, we either go in the morning/afternoon or for dinner/night), so maybe it wouldn't be that bad of a drive once there and back.

That is a good rate! I will have to look into that.

Yeah, it's the traffic. Especially around dinner-time & the exits near all the attractions. It won't be that bad if you're only going once a day, I've done that. I think they have a shuttle now too. I guess what I meant was, if Disney is your primary-all-day-every destination, it's not the most convenient off-site option. It can get annoying driving back & forth the whole trip b/c you feel like you're wasting a bunch of time in the car. If you're doing a mixed-trip (some time at Disney, some time just hanging out at the hotel), it'd be fine and a nice enough place to be worth it. :thumbsup2

We stayed at the Omni Cchampions Gate for the first time last summer. We are generally, Disney on site/Marriot people and go to Disney about 3 times a year for a week or more trip. This year I am going 5x total. Last summer we booked 5 nights at Omni and 7 at AoA Little Mermaid room. From the moment we checked in to AoA, DH wanted to go back to the Omni. (And we had quite a few stays at AoA so he knew what it is all about) I asked DD6 where she wants to stay this summer, Little Mermaid or Omni and she picked the Omni. So we are doing a split stay between Omni and Beach Club. So, this year, we stayed Omni Easter week after a disaster trying to book a house, I go to Omni in July for a conference and our summer trip in August will be there.

Enough background...the hotel is gorgeous. It is big, but the shape means that you are not too far from an elevator. We stayed on the 7 floor last summer and could see fireworks in the distance from the window at the end of the floor. If you sign up for the Omni Select Program, it's free, you will have 2 beverages delivered to your room each morning. The pool is really well layed out. Easy access to each area: slide, splash area, you can walk into it, and of course the lazy river. The rooms are quite big too. There is a fridge in each room. On the way back to the hotel you pass a Publix, a pizza place and McD.

In the summer we never stay at the park all day. We take an afternoon break. I just asked DH how far the parks were and he said, AK was about 15 and Epcot about 30 from Omni to parked car walking into the park. Which is actually about the same as Disney transportation. Last Easter week, we stayed some days and went back some days. The weather was not great to swim, and we had my MIL who used a scooter so transitions were a bit of a pain.

We paid $145 Easter week (we paid $200 for 1 night at PoP Century, which was insane) and looks like summer will be around $110. The price does not include the resort fee and parking fee, plus you will have to pay to park at Disney 1x a day. If you are comparing a value/moderate resort to Omni, and the price is within $20 then I would say the Omni wins. If the price is more than $20 you have to decide if you want the luxury vs saving money at Disney to spend on other things. This summer we are spending $200 a night for the Beach Club. Totally worth it. So, during our split stay, our Omni will be around $140, so that is the savings part of the trip. We have Little Mermaid booked at $110 and DH feels that the $30 is worth it for the deluxe feel and the pools at Omni during the summer.

The two times we stayed they had a chalkboard by the pool with activities, but I never saw anyone doing activities. There is a kids club, but again, I never saw any activities and DD did not go. We have gotten ice cream at the deli, but did not eat at the restaurants. And there is a spa.

I am looking forward to attending a conference there in July. This conference is national and was held in in CA. AZ and FL twice in the past 4 years. I was thrilled that the company selected the Omni out of all the Orlando hotels. (It was at Rosen Shingle Creek last time in FL)

I would be happy to try to answer any specific questions that you may have...

Thanks! This is great info.

We usually stay deluxe onsite but we are looking for less expensive alternatives so we can go down more often. We also want that full deluxe resort feel (restaurants, etc), so the Omni looked like a good fit.

On the map it looked to me like it would be in a good direction, although a bit farther from WDW than other offsite properties. In other words, it seems to be away from the craziness of the whole I-drive area up I-4 the other way. We always rent a car no matter where we stay.

Glad to hear your daughter liked it!

Thanks so much for writing all of this out, I really appreciate it, very informative.

Ah, that makes sense. Will have to keep an eye on Google traffic if we stay there!

We only spend about six hours a day in the parks and the rest at the resort no matter where we stay, so I think it could work out ok.

Thanks!

A Tip for driving To & From the Parks from The Omni Hotel

Leave the Hotel .... AND turn LEFT

Pass Bella Trae condos & you will see the Communications mast

Keep this on your Left & take the SAND ROAD called South Goodman

This will take you ,after about 2 + miles ,to the NEW School

Then TURN RIGHT ,,, and on past Carib Royal Resort and onto Westside

This JOINS Hwy 192 ... TURN RIGHT ....Past Twistree ( ? ) Ice Cream

Then stay on Hwy 192 & TURN LEFT onto Sherbeth Road

This leads to A.Kingdom & Osceola Parkway.... Follow Signs for Parks.

ON WAY BACK ...... Follow ANIMAL KINGDOM

BUT MAKE sure you take TURN RIGHT .... BEFORE BRIDGE

to join Osceola Parkway

DO NOT FOLLOW DIRECTIONS FOR I4 or 192

FOLLOW ONLY ANIMAL KINGDOM RESORT & Lodge then Sherberth

It's about 12 miles to the parks from the Omni. Take I-4, don't mess with 192. The time you spend getting to 192 you could be in the parks. Sometimes in the evening it backs up on 1-4 heading west but not always. It's not a bad drive at all.

I completely agree with this. My husband works there, and i4 is much faster...there is hardly ever traffic going the 4 miles on I4 east.

Sometimes people give you the time it takes to get to Disney property and sometimes it's to the parking lot of the park your going to. Since Disney is so big these times vary. From the Omni to Disney property (World Dr) using I 4 it's probably about 10 min. but to get to a park especially MK it's another 10 to 12 or so. We didn't think the time was bad when we stayed at Reunion which is off the Champions Gate exit.

OT, but if you haven't checked rates @ Swan, Dolphin, & Hilton Bonnet Creek, you may want to. They're all deluxe hotels close to the parks & usually much cheaper than Disney deluxe resorts. There are many types of discounts. Hopefully, one of them would work for you. There are resort & parking fees, but they're still a much better rate than Disney's resorts. Omni does look really nice. We've only driven by it though.

I live down the street from the Omni. It's about 15 minutes to get to Disney, depending on the park you're going to.

Avoid 192. Take I-4 to Exit 62, which is World Drive. That will take you everywhere you need to go on Disney property and help you avoid all of the I-4 back-up that happens in the middle of the day along Exits 64-68.
