Ominous Warning about this weekend.

That's it...just be mentally prepared.

It's the same attitude I took when I went to Disney free on my birthday last year. Everybody cancelled out on me because thee was a 60% chance of rain. I went anyway. It misted for 10 minutes at noon and sprinkled for a bit at 8pm.

I went there with an attitude of a kid jumping in rain puddles. I was gonna have fun even if I got drenched.

o go expecting major crouds. You may decide not to wait in ride lines or wait for a sit down table to eat. But you can still have lots of fun.

THat being said my brother woosed out on my neices Sunday at the park this weekend he's wanting to wait until next week because of the rain.

So I'll give my neice her first annual pass on the 9th and not the 2nd. I still may go on Monday.

I was reading on another site about this weekend in the parks. It was about how DL has been reaching capacity this week compared to last year. Last year it was maxing out too but this year hitting that point earlier in the day.
But it also noted because DL is shutting the gates to new tickets sooner more people are going to DCA. If you are unaware a lot of capacity is missing in DCA, as MM/GSS is in rehab and the Maliboomer is gone. Also the dining in the west end of the park and bountiful farm is gone. All this is making DCA a lot more crowded.

This is pointing to a good chance we will see both DL and DCA reach capcity.

OK, most of the abbriviations i can figure out, but this one has me STUMPED!

Sorry, but thanks for asking for clarity. It's Mullhulland Madness which is currently in rehab being rethemed as Goofy's Sky School.

Since the name is changing I'm trying to put to use the past and future names. I understand that can confuse people even more if they aren't following the changes in the parks.

MM = Mulholland Madness

Not sure about GSS though.

I agreed to take DD to Disney tomorrow before I read about how crazy crowded it's been all week. Yikes!

I bet the rain kept at least some folks away today, but they'll probably be back full force tomorrow.

I already told DD that we will be there at opening, now I better prepare her for a possible very short stay. Wish us luck.

We bought annual passes on Xmas day. We were directed into DCA (which was our plan anyway). Then we got lucky by going into the park via the monorail in DTD.

It was UNBELIEVABLE.

If I actually had plans to do anything I would have been very disappointed.

Thankfully our plan was just to let DD see Mickey -- which we did at DCA.

We were there about 4 hours doing Bug Land and a walkthrough of DL.

We're planning on going there this Saturday. I doubt we'll ride the rides, we just want to enjoy the decorations, maybe get a bite to eat, and enjoy the atmosphere there. We'll get there early, and probably won't stay late.

If anything - anyone going, take warm clothes!

I think that's the right attitude! Expect the heaviest crowds in your mind, so that anything less than what you imagine will be a relief! If you can, try to avoid Main Street at night. And if DL gets too crazy, you can always go to DCA (if it's not maxed out), or you can hang out in DTD or in one of the 3 Disney hotels. In the old days, there were not as many options of things to do around Disneyland on NYE, if Disneyland got too crazy. Nowadays, at least you have a few options of other places to kind of retreat to if need be.

Yes you gotta mentally prepare yourself that there will be a lot more people in the park on NYE then you have ever seen at any other time..

And GSS-stand fore Goofy sky school

Thank you again! It is nice to have all those options . The kids dont even know, they think we are going to mexico. ;) we cannot wait till they wake up and realize we are at "the happiest place on earth" best way to end and start the year.

Craziness at Disneyland on Monday and Tuesday. We were there and I have never seen it like that before. The lines were wrapped around everything and anything. Lots of cast members working on crowd control. All we wanted to do was get on the Mark Twain and take pics of the crowds, which we did!

If you are going to go, be prepared so you don't ruin your trip. And hang on for the ride!

Having just left this morning I have 2 say even on the most crowded days this week DLs CMs kept "traffic" moving. We got way more done than we thought we would. DCA on tthe other hand handled crowds badly and was a mess with half the number of people.

We were at the gates at 8am Thursday and we spent about 5.5 hours in the parks.
Was it busy? Absolutely!
Were the lines long? You better believe it!
But I was actually expecting the general congestion to be worse than what we experienced.

I'm now siding with the folks who say most AP holders are staying away though.
Here's my test:
We had planned on using the 30% dining coupon at Pacific Wharf. But we walked up at 11:30 and the line was out the door, along the outside tables, and probably halfway back to the bridge. Wasn't happening!

So we walked over to Whitewater Snacks instead. At noon only 3 tables were being used and there were less than a dozen people in the place. I know WS isn't as popular with AP holders as it once was, but on a day like today I still would have expected a lot more folks to take refuge there if the parks were full of AP holders. ;)

We saw a handful of Wisconsin fans here and there, but we saw tons and tons of purple wearing TCU fans everywhere.

I agree with Mary Jo - if you're going soon, plan on layering. My face and hands are still numb from the cold! But if you're indoors for any length of time; they've got the heat cranked so high, you'll roast if you can't shed a layer or two.

We had fun, but we definitely won't be going back in the next few days.

There is no place more fun than Disneyland on NYE!! Don't let crowds scare you away. Just be sure to get there first thing in the morning and plan so that you will not need to leave the park.

True! When I went for NYE (12/31/95), there was just DL and DLH. It was so FREAKISHLY packed, that we would ride the monorail from the park to the hotel, get a drink in the bar there, ride the monorail back to the park and then take the train around the park and repeat. AWESOME for people watching though!

My friend and I have decided to brave the NYE weekend on Sunday... we figure, the NYE rush may be over... PLUS it is supposed to rain.

Here is my Q: Will WoC be cancelled if it's raining?

no..but albort just posted that it was sold out yesterdaty in 20 min and tickets for DL are sold out . but DCA is still available.. good luck! let us know how it went!

Yup, you are absolutely right. AP holder here and we always head over to WS! Ya, the food may be mediocre but there are many days where we just want to "get away from it all" and WS is the place for that ... sit, eat, recharge and head back to the Parks. :thumbsup2

HAVE FUN TO ALL THAT ARE THERE THIS WEEKEND ... I AM JEALOUS! :dance3:

LisaCat - Yep, "freakishly crowded" is about how I would describe my NYE at DLR experience, too. If you could do something like get on the train and just keep riding, that was the best thing to do!

I was just watching a segment on the news yesterday about how it's not only DLR whose attendance surged this week (we expected DLR's attendance to surge this week because it always surges between Christmas and New Year's), but also Knott's and Universal as well. Both Knott's and Universal have seen larger-than-usual crowds this particular holiday week compared to previous years during the same week. They didn't mention Six Flags, so I'm not sure about that.

The overall idea of the news piece was the idea that people are coming out of the recession and spending again, so all the theme parks are getting tons of business. Funny thing is, DLR never seemed like its attendance was hurting during the recession! It's had a pretty healthy attendance for the last few years. With all the new things being added, I guess it will mean more crowds.

(Oh, and I'm an AP holder who has never set foot in White Water Snacks other than to photograph its Christmas tree! One of these days I'll get there, but it's never been on my radar in the past.)
