I was reading on another site about this weekend in the parks. It was about how DL has been reaching capacity this week compared to last year. Last year it was maxing out too but this year hitting that point earlier in the day.
But it also noted because DL is shutting the gates to new tickets sooner more people are going to DCA. If you are unaware a lot of capacity is missing in DCA, as MM/GSS is in rehab and the Maliboomer is gone. Also the dining in the west end of the park and bountiful farm is gone. All this is making DCA a lot more crowded.

This is pointing to a good chance we will see both DL and DCA reach capcity.

That happened yesterday (Tuesday). Both parks were maxed out. Albort confirmed it. DL stopped selling tickets only 2 hours after it opened, and stopped selling DCA tickets not long after that. Monday saw capacity crowds in DL too, but I don't think they stopped selling DCA tickets, or if so, it was not until much later in the day.

You know, I think I will make sure and always avoid the Christmas weeks at the parks...

Me too! I haven't done a post-Christmas/pre-New Year's trip in years. Judging by how crowded it is during the season leading up to Christmas, I know I don't want to face the pre-New Year's crowds ever again! One day I would like to wake up on Disney soil on Christmas Day - I think that would be nice to do at some point. But then I would probably leave immediately after Christmas ended. In the meantime, I will stick with a visit earlier in December!

All this the last week has me thinking we may save $$ next year and do Deluxe. We've always had Premium so we can go during the holiday blockouts but this year has been nuts.

Sherry, you do need to wake up at Disneyland on Christmas Day. :) GCH leaves cute little washcloth creations of snowman, christmas trees. I have loved it. We may still do it. But we won't be going into the park that day again. It's too hard to enjoy the park.

The washcloth snowmen and trees sound adorable!! One day I will wake up somewhere on Disney soil (hopefully in a hotel!;):rotfl2:) on Christmas day. I think, even though the GCH does not have my favorite rooms of the 3 hotels, that it would be a great place to wake up on Christmas. But as soon as the novelty of that wore off, a few hours into the morning, I would get the heck out of there before the mobs descended on the parks!!

I think along the same lines. Being blocked this time of year isn't a bad thing. But missing so many Saturdays and the discounts make the premium worth consideration.

Oh I forgot one things.

If you happen to be going next week, give a few CMs hugs and let them know they survived!

I always wanted to go to DL during Christmas day or New Years Eve, but I knew of these situations and avoid DL during the busiest part of the season. Thats why I always avoid DL during this part of the season because of the huge crowds. Even though the Premium/Premier gets no blockouts, I really like the free parking and discounts on the merchandise and dining. It is way better than WDW where they have a few selections of stores and restaurants that you can use the AP.

wow it really sounds like the week after christmas is much busier than the week before or the week of! this will really help me plan for next year!

yes! :thumbsup2 it must be stressful for them! i'll be there in 2 weeks and i will definitely make a point to ask them how it went and tell them thank you! they must deal with plenty of grumpy people, even working at the happiest place on earth :sad2:
crowds mixed with rainy weather doesn't sound like an ideal situation :scared1:

This is all i can say to NYE and NYE weekend at disneyland--->

the more reports i read, the less i want to go this week

Just THINKING about being in the Park when it's that crowded is almost panic attack-worthy. :scared1:

Disneyland, I love you, but I'm glad I'm not there, and I'm especially glad I won't be there on NYE. I shall be content to stay here in boring old Arizona, because at least I won't be drowning in a sea of humanity, unable to move without having my boo-boo foot be run over 10,000 times by 5,000 strollers. :rotfl:

ohh yeah i am glad also to not have that happend to me and stay clear of DLR at NYE!! :upsidedow

That is definitely not my idea of fun. It sounds like a nightmare to me!
We were there 2 weeks ago, and even though it was raining we had a blast. No huge crowd, walked on to many, many rides and everything was reasonable (crowd wise). Even the bigger crowd days didn't come close to what is being described here.

I love Disney but am so content to stay away when it's nuts-crowded. That's just not fun to me.

I would go one step further and say it's not a chance, but a question of "What time?"

...check out the article above and below. its from time magazine online and the LA times, as of 4 hours ago disneyland has been halting admission into the parks...
Just a minor point of clarification: Both of those sources are reports from yesterday (Tuesday). Today it has been raining a good part of the day and I have not read any reports about DL or DCA stopping the sale of tickets.

That said, even with the rain, I looked at DL Wait Times earlier today and at one point around 2pm (I think) Space Mountain had an hour wait.

Busy BUSY B U S Y week, all leading up to NYE.

Am I crazy for still wanting to spend NYE (also my bday :)) in DLR next year? :upsidedow

Yes. BUT... you have to do it once. Just so you know that everything you have heard really IS true.

Of course! But I'm right there with you. But I feel like I'm the only person in the world excited about being there for NYE this year!

:rotfl: It's not so much going for the NYE celebration as it is spending my actual birthday at DLR. I've always wanted to go, get my birthday pin and feel all special :goodvibes Having a birthday on NYE is great and fun UNLESS you wanna spend it in DLR :sad2:

YAY have fun!! I don't mind crowds, and I think that since most of us know what to except and to be mentally prepared, we would be able to enjoy it a bit more. Prepare for the worst but hope for the best is what I always say :thumbsup2
