Are there still policies in place in CA that would shut down DL if covid gets to a certain level? (Not asking for opinions about policy, just wondering if high omicron numbers could close DL)

I haven't heard anything about that. I agree with SOCALMouseMommy that what could cause issues is staff shortages. But I bet it would have to be extreme for them to think even about shutting down the park again.

None that I’ve heard. Related but unrelated, Dr. Ghaly is on record supporting the hosting of the Super Bowl next month in LA. My line of thinking is that if the State is on record with supporting the running of that large of an event, I think DL operations wouldn’t be targeted.

Exactly- and SoFi can hold over 70,000 people (100,000+ for floor open concerts) to put things in perspective.

The actual quote is this: "I think Californians are excited to see that event occur,” Ghaly said, “and the work is to be sure that, as it is moving forward as planned, the mitigation strategies that create safety around that event are in place.”

It's being covered by the indoor mask mandate (recently extended) -- my hope is they don't do something like "no fans" which is technically still allowing it to happen, but would be untenable for the NFL and cause the event to relocate to its contingency site at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

But yes, reading tea leaves...I don't see DLR closures happening.

I would be surprised. But I do think staffing shortages due to large numbers of cast members being sick with covid could potentially cause some real problems.

This is already happening. The Starbucks in DCA closed early yesterday at 7pm because of lack of staff. I imagine if enough CMs call out sick, we may see temporary closures of restaurants and reduced operating hours as a whole as they shuffle around remaining cast.

Is it also being held to the LA county vaccine mandate for maga events?

I imagine there is a possibility that this vaccine mandate *could* be enacted by the Governor to include all of CA, and if that happened Disneyland would then have to begin checking that for all guests. As of now, it only applies in Los Angeles county as it's a county mandate. I don't imagine OC will do this on their own, though.

I think hard shutdowns of theme parks are very unlikely at this point.

Yes. California is still under a state of emergency and COULD impose restrictions if it is necessary. With OMICRON being a mild variant hospitals are not likely to get over whelmed. Therefore, I wouldn't expect closures.

Watching the Rams game right now…no masks to be seen at SoFi stadium. All these people can’t be “actively eating and drinking” at same time. Most are just screaming their heads off.

Unfortunately, the mood of the country seems to be business as usual and I don’t think they’ll be shutdowns for safety reasons. in football, if they don’t have players to field a team, they’ll postpone. If Disney doesn’t have employees to operate, they’ll periodically shut down rides and restaurants.

Oh, snap…guess they’re already doing that…

Watching the Rams game and mask usage is spotty at best. Don’t see Disney closing again but as mentioned we May see some adjustments due to CM’s calling in sick due to infection. Probably another tough three weeks ahead until this current variant peaks but it’s difficult to know for sure.

I suppose that depends on definition of overwhelmed. ICU’s are definitely running full with covid patients. Overall, Omicron is certainly less severe than Delta, but plenty of full ICU’s and sad stories.

Please note, this is not a political statement or commentary on vaccine, simply the state of things at the 3 hospitals my family members work at in 3 different states. We all need to make choices that best suit our family and life situations. For us, we vaxed, wear masks, then go about our lives as normally as possible.

I think a DL shutdown is highly unlikely. While earlier in the pandemic, California was slightly stricter than other parts of the country, it was still ultra lax. You have to remember that within one week, Florida hit all time high Covid cases of over 15K in one day and green lit the reopening of Epcot (Magic Kingdom was already open) but Hong Kong shut down it's Disneyland again due to 80ish cases.

Given that the indoor mask mandate was extended statewide, I think the next level of COVID response would be that a vax or test mandate be extended statewide. I don't see Orange County doing anything on it's own.

I doubt a full Disney shutdown will happen again.
Smaller shutdowns are already happening (Napa Rose/Rides/Kiosks). I think they are adjusting as staff are calling out sick and others are full on quitting.
I give them a lot of grace right now. I mean, imagine working there where guests want/demand their magical Disney experience and the work environment is stressful and you are worried about getting Covid. Ugh. No thanks.

They're doing their best. A lot of it is failing. People that choose to go right now should know what they're in for. It's a changed experience.

In California, we are calling it a "voluntary lockdown" because what is happening is that places don't have staffing to stay open, or are scared the rest of the employees will become ill and they won't have a choice but to shut down suddenly. For some perspective, the California Dept. of Health announced a few days ago that hospital and nursing home staff are now allowed to return to work, even if they are covid positive and without symptoms--without additional testing and without isolation. That's how bad the staffing issues are here. As the peak is likely a few weeks away, I'd expect service at DL to have dropped (bc of staffing shortages they can't really do anything about) and I'd expect some locations to have to close on some days, certainly. I live in a county that has been spared the worse of the pandemic until this week. It is utterly exploding here, and we've all been told not to go to the ER unless we can't breathe or are broken or bleeding (a lot). Because of staffing issues.
