I guess there really is a trick to raffles!

Yesterday was my daughter's Winterfest (school fun fest fundraiser) and one of the Chinese raffle prizes was 5 day WDW park hoppers. We bought 9 tickets and one went in the box for the AGD Lainie (sp?) and the rest went into the WDW box.

Before they went in to the WDW box, DH said, "Wait, I saw a show on how to win raffles and they said to crumple up the ticket and then unfurl it before you put it in. The person pulling the tickets is more likely to grab it."

Well, IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :banana::banana::banana:

We got an email today saying that we won!!!!! We are SO unbelievably excited. I am not an overly emotional person but I was screaming when I read the email! I know how much my DIS friends can appreciate this! LOL

We have a 10 day trip already planned for this summer. Can I can upgrade these to 10-day passes? Or will I have to buy another set of 5 day hoppers?

Hope our raffle trick works for some of you!!!! I'll be sure to use it from now on!

Congratulations! That is wonderful. I'll have to try that trick myself.

Be careful where you try that "trick" at the raffle I run and others I have gone to have signs hung up that say "Do NOT bend or fold tickets-they will be disgarded" if I reach in and pull out a ticket that is crumbled up or folded we just toss it aside and pull another- its really cheating and we don't allow it.

Hope you really won something. I can't tell you how many times I have filled out entries for "prizes" only to find out what I won was not actually a prize, but a chance to come and for them to sell me something...portraits are the prime guilty party. Free 8x10 - then they try to sell you a whole package of pictures.

Very cool and congrats. I won a $1,000 disney vacation voucher (2 $500 disney gift cards) this year playing fantasy football. We splurged and went with staying at the Contemporary for our September 4-11 stay, since it's only going to cost us $527 out of pocket for the 7 nights.

Exactly.. thankfully that is what they do here also.

Congrats.

Yes - you can take your tickets and get them upgraded while you are there at the parks.

Congrats, and our schools have all gone to the non-crumble rule also. I am sure yours will catch up to this trick soon enough. Make sure you read them each time as it could change anytime...

And just so you know, Disney always donated to our raffles with passes, never hopper though. We even got watches on year to go with them.

Enjoy your trip. They usually have a year expiration on them though, unless they were purchased by a private person and not donated...

A lot depends on the tickets themselves.

If they have either COMP or COMPLIMENTARY on them they cannot be upgraded or modified in any way. Also, if they have either a "Not valid before" date or a "not Valid After" date on them (or both) they cannot be modified or upgraded. But if they are regular MYW tickets then you can upgrade them.

Seriously, you really had signs made? How is it cheating? It's not like everybody didn't have the same chance to bend their tickets. Some people are sticklers about the oddest things.:confused3

Thanks for the info. I don't have the tickets in hand as of yet but I do believe there was an expiration on them so they may not be upgradeable. I'll just have to wait and see when DD picks them up from school tomorrow. If they're upgradeable we will save a huge chunk of change on our upcoming trip so I'm really hoping they are. If they're not upgradeable, I'm thinking two can be used for the same person to make one person totally free.

Either way, I feel so thrilled and blessed to have won. Thanks everyone for your kind words of congratulations!

Most of the chinese auctions and raffles I go to have that same rule- more and more are enforcing it. It gives some people an unfair advantage over others-its cheating.

Congrats! I always crumpled my tickets too, but I never thought of it as cheating. :confused3 I guess I won't do it any more.

Well, since you have a sign or signs up for your raffle and
since others you have gone to have similar signage up and
since I am sure that meliss8599 is a rule-following sort
there's not a problem is there...
if she had bought a ticket to your raffle - or others with like signs or with stated rules -
I am certain she would have left her ticket in a smooooth and uncrumpled condition.
If crumpling the ticket is not a stated rule to the raffle (by sign/s or by rules printed on the ticket itself) then for that particular raffle crumpling a ticket is not against its rules and would not be considered cheating.

YMMV.
agnes!

PS - :cool1:Congrats meliss8599!!! That is tooTOO cool!! WOOOOOO-HOOOOOOOO!!!! :dance3:

:worship:Wow, I can't thank you enough for posting that. You are so correct in stating that I would've never done it had I known many consider it "cheating." I was so offended to be thought of in that way but kept it to myself and didn't try to "defend" myself so as to avoid flames, attacks, retorts, and the like. I even went so far as to research it on Google what constiutes cheating in a raffle and couldn't find much of anything on the topic (other than picking your ticket out yourself!) let alone specifically crumpling. :confused3

Again, a huge thank you to those genuinely happy for my family and me and agnes! thanks for your :lovestruc and support. People like all of you are one of the main reasons I love and visit the DIS.:cloud9:

Congratulations!!!! That is awesome. I don't think of crumpling up tickets to be cheating, but I have never seen any raffle with rules for what you can and can't do to the ticket. Since most people at our school are crumplers for lack of a better term, I would think that no one would have a better chance, but hey. It certainly isn't cheating if the rules didn't prohibit it.

OP HERE - UPDATE. We got the passes and they are actually 4, 1-day hoppers. We have a 10 day trip planned for 3 "adults" (DH, me, and DD10). How can I maximize these tickets' value? Because if I buy a 9 day hopper and use this as our 10th day, they're technically only worth a few bucks. Any ideas?

Should I apply all of them to one adult and then buy a 6 day pass for that one person? :confused3
