I just went to get the mail and THANKFULLY it was ME and not Cam!!

He got a letter from PLAYBOY offering him a subscription!! Not just a regular old card mind you but a very suggestively worded, with pictures I might add!

Did I Mention he's NINE???!!!!!!

I am so angry!!!

My thoughts exactly Pooh!

I called the subscription service and reamed them but good!

Im not done yet either....

Let me just add that my son is NOT exposed to this kind of thing, He monitored at all times while he is online, the only subscription he has is to Nat'l Geographic for kids. If they sold his name they will not hear the end of it any time soon!

Shouldnt there be a way to screen these names that they buy? I mean its ridiculuos!!

I remember the time my son who was 9 at the time recieved a preapproved Visa card. All it said he had to do was use a touch tone phone to activate the card. We believe they got his name thru USA Hockey as he was a member.

My huisband called up Visa and reamed them over. He made them remove the name from their mailing list. I am sure he was not the only child who received this. We also found out we would have been responsible for all charges incurred if this was activated. Could you imagine, if he got it and not I who went thru the mail. What does a 9 yr old know about credit. He would only see a free credit card like mom and dads. The is like turning kid loose in candy store.

Wow! I would be right there with you binny!! Incredible.

Those mailing lists are something else, aren't they?

My dog received a preapproved visa card before she died. I must admit I got a chuckle out of that one.

 That's just horrible!!!!!!! I wonder if you can report that to the Attorney General's office or something. Thank God you got the mail!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your dog had a last name?

Our vet lists our pets under our last name. I thought they all did. How else would they know *which* Buddy or Fifi's records to pull :)

Our vet also sends cards reminding us it's time for their annual check-ups. The cards are addressed to "Sadie Moore," "Alexis Moore," etc. However, we fortunately have never gotten any *other* mail addressed to the pets.

Laurie, agreeing with the OP about the incredible inappropriateness of what happened to her and shocked that we could be responsible for a credit card issued to our child without our knowledge or consent (presumably the pets would have a bit more trouble running up the bill :teeth: )

I would be livid as well!! However please take note, chances are the person who works on the phone has no idea how the mailing lists work. I work in a phone center and get "reamed" on a daily basis from people who are angry for some reason or another. 99% of the time I agree with them. I am just the unlucky one who answered the phone. I try to help them as best as possible but it really makes me not want to help the person when they are being mean to me for something I did not do and would be just as upset if I were in their shoes. Again I would be just as angry as you are. Unfortunately mailing lists are like trunks of a tree. They start with the trunk and branch out of control. Mailing list brokers buy the list from the main source and then sell them to whomever they want to. It is really sad and almost unavoidable.

This, no doubt is what cued Playboy to send an offer.

we picked up our mail Saturday and there was one of those postcards addressed to my Dad... he died 2 1/2 years ago!!!

My husband received one of those in the mail on Monday. He has a Discover magazine subscription....no doubt they sold his name.

Cindysgusgus, Im sorry you have to put up with it.

I called PB directly and didnt start getting really angry till she accused my son of signing up for it himself.
I was angry before but thats when I got livid.
I demaded to speak with a manager and she wouldnt put me over and I told her I wanted her supervisor NOW.
The supervisors name was "Nannette" anyway, she told me to fax over the card with a letter syaing when how old he is etc and then she would try to find out where it came from.

My point is there relaly should be some way for them to know that this was a KID not an adult, and that this is serious stuff.

I am not giving up on this. I actually have a call into the FTC (I know some may think its harsh but I want to protect this from happening to some other kid who goes out and gets the mail)
but this was done through the US MAIL and there are laws against it.

I hope I can make a difference.

Just because of this kind of thing, our kids can only get the mail if they hand it straight to me first. DD got her first credit card offer at age six!!!!! And our rabbit, using her name and our last name, used to get offers to join children's book clubs all the time. I thought it was funny until she started getting telemarketers asking for her by name!
