Anyone here have SSR (Silent Sustained Reading) at school?

We had this up until 7th grade, when they stopped it. Thank god.

Now I find out we're having it again.

What the helllll. We're in flipping high school and we have to 'drop everything and read'.

It's gonna be after all of our classes.

I love to read, but I don't really want my classes shortened to read in school. We can read at home.

We only do this every morning for 15 minutes. Silent reading sucks.
It's really annoying. My teacher only has those dumb books that are like Peter Pan, but edited to make it easy to read.

We dont have it in our school but ours is DEAR (drop everythin and read). its completely pointless but the teachers made us do it anyway...

DEAR time was fun in elementary school; and thank goodness we don't do that in middle school.

It's horrible. Other schools get a small break or 40 minute lunch, and we get 25 minutes of SSR instead. And if you forget your book twice- "Here's a detention!" I dislike my school immensely (trying not say hate.) We only have 20 minutes off a day.

we have S.S.R every day for the first 15mins of 5th hour, and it has to be a NOVEL! and it cant even be a novel we are reading for another class, i mean the time would come in handy if i could read my AP english books during that time but NOOO i have to read something dumb that i pick up off my teachers shelf and stare at for 15mins...had to vent my anger on SSR sorry

i used to have DEAR and SSR. i didnt see them as a big deal. i actually liked it because we always had it after recess and it calmed us down. and now that im homeschooled, i still read for 15 minutes every school day from 1130-1145.......my choice.

Me too! We did Starbooks cafe a few years ago.. haha. No SSR now..
We went to the library and got coffee and hot cocoa and snacks and read in a beanbag chair. =]
