OMG...we are moving to Orlando!

I agree. I don't want to be debbie downer either, but an interview is not an offer. They probably have 3-7 other people interviewing for the same position.
Regardless, I hope things work out for you!

OK, we just found out hubby can work from home and still keep his job from PA when we move to FL in a month or 2(woo-hoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), it makes our rental search a bit easier in regards to choosing from various locations. I have several job offers around the Orlando area(one in Celebration for DCL, habve my interview on Fri., one in Dr. phillips, one near Oveido, etc).
I'd love to know which town you think is the best to live in, in regards to good schools, safety, affordability, proximity to Disney(I know, but my kids are so excited about that), is pet friendly and you can get a 4 bedroom rental for under $1700 a month.
We had narrowed it down to Ocoee, Oviedo, Clermont, Winter Park, Winter Garden, Dr. Phillips and Windermere. Am I missing any other places that you would choose if you could???
I know the area very well, your choices are very spread out in a way. THe only way I would move to Oviedo would be if your job is there. Other wise it's too difficult to get into town from there. Out of your choices for me it would be WP. It would be a bit of a drive to Celebration though, not too bad to Oviedo.

I also just have to say that I am very shocked that so many of you are naysayers! I have been diligently reseaching the areas in FL we are thinking of moving to, I am not taking this lightly at all!
We are not moving to central FL to just be near Disney, we are doing this due to my and my son's depression we get from the 6 month long winters here in PA. Disney is just a bonus as far as I am concerned.
I've also been seriously looking at the schools and this website has been of great help http://schoolgrades.fldoe.org/default.asp along with talking to people who live there and have kids in the schools. I have it narrowed down to Seminole, Orange and Lake counties and have been researching all the schools.
If you view 6 months of the year as depressing, you should totally try to do it!

If you're like me and only dislike Jan - Mar, and don't love hot/humid weather, you should appreciate what you have.

That's the way I look at it. Life's too short. Being happy with your surroundings matters a heck of a lot.

I notice on the dis that there are quite a few thread were the poster is moving to Orlando and so very excited about that. Really, I'm not sure why that is. Probably because it's a Disney site. Really though, Orlando is just another place to live. I like having a house here, but it's really no different than anywhere else except maybe the weather difference that it is being compared too.

Cannot wrap my brain around the idea that making the move is beneficial over any and all other considerations, including possibly moving without your DH. Being separated from my spouse would depress me far more than an epic Game of Thrones winter coming.

We're working on moving back and we're excited. First is the weather. We've found we're no longer cold weather people. We've been sitting inside since the end of October except for a few warm days in the last few weeks. Currently it's 54 but the past 2 days have been in the 40's and it's June! Second it is cheaper to live there which is great. Third, for us anyway, there are more job opportunities than where we are. And fourth, there is so much more to do there than there is here.

Eh. We did it. My husband took a job down here in Florida and I stayed behind in New Hampshire while my son finished his senior year and I tried to sell the house. We wanted to make the move south (didn't really matter where, we just wanted out of the cold!). So when a job presented itself in Tampa he took it. We lived apart for about a year. I flew down to visit about every other month. We made it work because we knew that this was what we wanted. Our move though had NOTHING to do with Disney.

I'm sure someone will come along and scream 'red flag' about the stability of our marriage, but I can assure you it's just fine. :rotfl:

I suppose too it's all in what you are used to as well. My husband did quite a bit of travelling during our 35 years together so I guess I can deal with it easier then others.

My dh is able to work from home now, so he will be moving with us.

Winter Garden, Clermont, Windermere, Ocoee, Dr. Phillips and Celebration are all in the same general part of greater Orlando. These areas are all just a short drive to Disney, Universal and Sea World. You don't have to get on any major highways to get to any of the theme parks. They are all pretty safe places to live. The east side of Ocoee is a little dicey as it is rather close to the Pine Hills area. Pine Hills tends to be a higher crime area.

Celebration is on the other side of Disney property from the others and sees a lot more tourist traffic.

Winter Park is on the north side of the city and is a good 45 minute drive on the best of traffic days to the theme parks. Oviedo is north and east. It is also a 45 minute drive to the parks. Both Winter Park and Oviedo have some really nice areas and some older more run down areas. Winter Park has a lot of railroad tracks.

I live in Windermere and love it, but I would have no problem living in Winter Garden or Dr. Phillips. Clermont has a lot of new areas and is an up and coming area. Utilities tend to be higher in Lake County. Celebration is cute, but is over priced and much to touristy for me.

The Davenport area of Champions Gate and Reunion is also a very easy drive to Celebration. Check out the area off Ronald Reagan Highway. Lots of nice subdivisions.

I already have a job as an independent contractor for a travel agency, I am just looking for some extra income as we can get by on that and dh's income. One place has contacted me 6 times in the last month and I have already passed my 1st interview and assessment testing for 3 of the other places!

Good thing you are not a military wife. ;) I've done it a few times.

I agree. Military wife here and I lived without my DH many, many times- and that's not even including his various deployments over the past 20 years.

That's so cool! Congrats. I haven't been out there for 14 years, but my girlfriend is designing a hotel there now, so a Disney World trip is on our horizon in the near future!

All good points. Not sure where you live now. I've had a house in Orlando for 32 yrs. I don't find there to be anymore to do than other areas I hang out in though, less actually. I don't care for the beach. Ideally at some point I would want to be in Florida just during a few winter months, that shouldn't be too far off. It's not the heat, I love the heat and it doesn't bother me. It's just that really there is not that much to do like you might be thinking that there is.

For us there is so much more to do, especially within an hours drive. We lived there for 3.5 years and we always had something to do. We've only been back here a year and a half but we are so bored!

wow Art-nothing to do???
I took a trip along the west coast of FL this year and found many cool parks...also love to visit the springs and spot manatees

One of our faves-Myakka River state park =east of Sarasota

I guess once you've lived in a place and done all those things they become boring in a way. Lots of good restaurants and I enjoy that. Good restaurants are most places though.

Believe me, there isn't a whole lot to do in New Hampshire compared to around here!
