OMG Staff was just extremely RUDE

But there isnt any cursing on there, the worst thing you can say is STINK! Kids hear ALOT worse in school than they do on VMK, trust me.
There may not be actual cursing because of the vocab limitations, however people find ways around this by using other words to replace curse words. We all know what they are saying-even the little kids. I have two little ones that play the game and I would not want them seeing the things that are said. So in these cases, I feel things should be reported and yes this is the internet, but vmk is promoted as a childrens game and promises safety to our children.

I was in a game of pirates and this girl called everyone names so we all reported...I got the standard "we will check it out and take appropriate action, use ignore" etc.

Well I reported her again saying "No ignore <bad word> is not accept able for little people to see in game"

I got back(wish I had taken a screen shot) I will be reporting to contact us also.

" I know you know that VMK staff are adults and we will not be discussing any action we take with you"

EXCUSE ME!

If you are an adult act like one. I did not ask you to discuss your actions with me....I do ask that a "DISNEY" run game be decent enough for the target group to play and that includes not sending out lame messages telling me or anyone else to use the "IGNORE" button when reporting a player for using bad language in the game even if the words are not in themselves bad we all know what they mean!

I also expect that VMK staff when addressing players with concerns talk to them with respect and politely. All of which I feel the above was not.

Yes I am livid and yes I will be writting a long letter about this to corporate.

Excuse me while I blow a fuse....:furious:

Everytime I have use the "help" or "report" button (about once a month) I'm either ignored or get rude messages from the staff. Nothing new for me.

I think the staff came in because we were discussing your ban and saying that we didn't think that word was bad. While we don't want people using dictionary dancing to say bad things, what was being said and the way it was being said wasn't really bad. I think if staff had come and asked us not to say that because of other ways the word can be used we all would have agreed not to use it any more. I really don't think you deserved a ban. When we were discussing the events, it was still in a private room with only three people (four once staff came in). I guess VMk might get suspicious of small groups in private rooms talking? Maybe that's where the worst language offenses occur?

I wasn't going to post about this but I just can't help it. I was one of the people in the room today also when Grumpy got his ban. Grumpy said the word once and I said it twice. I admit it was dictionary dancing and I also understand how the word means something bad to some people and is completely innocent to others. What upset me about today is several things.
First, we were in a private room with just a few adults. In the context of what we said I do not believe the word was used in a bad way. Nobody in the room had a problem with us using the word so I know it did not get reported, yet within seconds of us using it I had a warning and Grumpy had a ban. Is every conversations being watched this closely or was it just our lucky day?
Second, Grumpy got a ban and I only got a warning. That is not fair especially since I said the word twice and he only said it once. Either warn us both or ban us both, why punish us unevenly?
Third, we were all shocked by what happened so we were talking about it. Nobody used the word again, we were simply discussing it and wondering why he got banned and I only got a warning. I said I was bummed and then a host appeared. I took the most offense to this since I think it should be our right to discuss it and since I think only my mother or father should ever lecture me in that way. I realize that it is a private business so I don't really have rights but in the grand scheme of things it seems like such a small thing for them to get their panties in a wad over. Especially when I think of some of the truly disturbing things I have seen in public places on vmk where no host was ever seen.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents for what it is worth.
Thanks for reading.

I think it might have been better if the staff member had maybe not just reminded us that all dancing was bad but stayed and actually talked instead of just lecturing us and disappearing quickly from the room. We were adults, it was a private room, we were not repeating the offensive word, and we were just trying to put together what had happened. Wouldn't taking the time when VMK isn't very crowded and talking to some experienced players about suggestions to fix problems make sense? Even if we couldn't discuss all of why he was banned, the staff could do more than just lecture us like that. I think we all agree that most dictionary dancing is bad, and have ideas as to why some simple and not obviosly bad words aren't in the dictionary. But if nobody in the room reported what was said, why were staff watching us? Is there some trouble maker list that at least one of us is on, so that when possible they watch what is going on where that player is? Since you both said the same word in the same context why did one player only get warned and the other banned? This is the same type of thing we were discussing when staff came in, and all the visit really did was leave me more confused and upset about what happened. If players are trying to work out exactly what staff thought was so wrong, in order to not do the same thing and get banned themselves, why just lecture them about dictionary dancing instead of explaining exactly what staff thought had happened? We were adults, I think if staff had just told us, in an alert to the room or by coming in and talking to us, that while our context of using the word wasn't really bad, using dictionary dancing was wrong and please don't do it again, we all would have agreed. The way I saw the word used wasn't bad, but probably other people could use that word in a much less acceptable way. So showing the world that we could say it wouldn't be a smart idea, it would most likely give players something else for us to report and be told to use the Ignore button for in Pirates.

Staff are rude and sarcastic sometimes. They think they can get away with anything. Mal, are we allowed to say certain things? If not, please delete sorry

Well earlier in Pirates, I killed the ship very quickly and the person said "lame <removed>." I said lol and it was the next round. Then I sunk him again and he said "u <removed> ## you" Well I saw this person and it was a girl. I clicked report and said "She was using very bad language in pirates please help" and a staff alert popped up "Please do not abuse the report function or you may get banned"

And to ForeverWDW, I wanted to respond to the comment about the
Friends List. If a player is banned, they will still be on your Friends List.
I have had banned players on my list. When I checked their last log in date,
it never changed, and months had gone by. When that happened, I just
deleted them from my list.

I guess i wasn't clear about my post. What I meant was I have allowed ppl on my friend list after reporting them for... lets say swearing in the game. I reported the exact phase they said to staff using the help button. Allowed that person to be on my friend list and then watched what would happen. Day after day they log in and play the game. They never get banned or punished in any way.
Now knowing that not all bans will be a week or a month I have done this several times to see the outcome of several players bad behavior. Never have these ppl been off VMK for days or weeks. They log in each day with no action taken by staff.

A real example :
Boy: It is my be day today
Me: Happy be day!
Boy: I am II
Me: Please do not say that we could get ban
Boy : Oh sorry
(2 minutes later)
Boy: I am in middle school
me: Dont not say that! we will get ban!
(on the side I have reported to staff what is going on)
Boy: oh sorry again
Me: it's ok but you need to stop telling me things like that. Did you have a nice Be day?
Boy: Yeah but I wanted to go to the park I only live an hour away from WDL
(I quickly leave my own room and report again. I go back to my room ive minutes later. He follows me in)
Boy: I am sorry really sorry
Me: Never ever say anything like that again! I will not risk getting ban because you wont follow VMK rules.
Boy: I am sorry I promise not to do it again
Boy: do you belong to -says the name of another VMK forum-?
(report yet again what was said to staff and what I have done and said. I leave my room again.)

Never was he banned for any of the things he said. Not that any of them were swears or bad behavior but clearly breaking many of VMK rules. He still signs in daily and plays the game.
I could not allow friends only in my room I was waiting for someone from this forum to show up for a trade. I did not want to delete him off my friend list. He was in the hosiptal on his birthday.. deleting him off my friend list would have made him feel worse.

But clearly staff was not helping me. They made no attempt to stop him from saying these things. They gave him no punishment for breaking VMK rules.

I am not always reporting but when I am reporting there is a good reason, so last time I reported someone, I was playing pirates, a guy called my team with bad word during all the game, that gets me mad, and I reported that person.

I did not get the message saying use the ignore button, but another message way more nicer like they were looking about because they want to keep VMK a safe place ..

I forgot to say that I stand 100% with Mal on this one. I dont care if someone was stressed out, you can NOT be rude ever while on the clock. And Grump you too. That was rude of them to ban you. I don't like how staff sometimes are so bold and rude.

I hope Yanover replies to your letter. pirate:

Oh my. I had a girl doing that in my guest room, and we were all telling
her that she shouldn't be talking about that in VMK for the same reasons.
But unlike your situation, the entire room got the pop up window warning
not to mention that you live close to the parks. And VMK_Runo came in
to make it extremely clear that the Big White Glove was watching.

I was a bit nervous that I'd be collateral damage somehow, but Runo
understood that we advised her NOT to talk about those things in the
future or she would get banned. I'm sorry that you had this boy doing
this to you, too!

I have spoken with Yavn and he assured me that they are addressing moderation and it is being reworked and we will be pleased.

Thank you again Yavn and Staff for your hard work and making this game the awesome game that it is and working so hard to make VMK a wholesome place to play.
