OMG Staff was just extremely RUDE

OK then, what is the WORST thing you have ever seen said in the game?

:rotfl2: right

I will not be posting them here on the boards as they are against
DIS board guidelines.

Oh please what people say on VMK can NOT be that bad because they do not allow curse words. If you are talking about something stupid like <bypassing filter>. Give me a break.

2. NO PROFANITY: Profanity has no place on these boards. The boards are equipped with censoring software and will not permit messages containing inappropriate language to be posted. Profanity includes attempts to bypass the built in filter that these boards contain to avoid such words. Anyone found trying to bypass the filter will have their posting privileges revoked. Further, profanity includes suggestive or inappropriate photos. This is a family site, and other sites exist that contain more lenient guidelines regarding such matters.

I've seen a lot worse things than "stink" or the head thing on the game, but I can't say them on here (not even with the dictionary dancing) without facing a ban. I'll be happy to tell you in a PM if you're really that interested.

Mal,

Good luck with Yanover. I got a response from the VMK team when I wrote to him a year ago. The very clear message I received from them was that VMK is a complex marketing tool; it isn't about being fair or nice or even the "Disney spirit".

With that in mind, I encourage my daughter to play online games that are marketed in a fairer and cleaner way. She still plays VMK but she loves those other games alot more and we spend more of our money on those products.

I understand your frustration and also your feeling of powerlessness when someone is rude and crude; I feel that way too. I took a hint from the Capes a long time ago, and it really works if you want to try this..."hug" them, smile at them, tell them that it is ok to be sad and you are sorry that they are having such a rotten day. LOL when they get meaner, become as sweet as can be because the game they are playing is about ruining your day and making you as miserable as they are.

I hope your email helps to make some changes in VMK but until then just remember, there is always those of us at the DIS who still have the "Disney spirit"! :grouphug:

Oh, and Rickscafe, we all know you are a pirate and a rogue.. :earboy2: ..lol

Mal did you ever find the right place to report this to Disney? I have a similiar situation. I was banned for 2 hours and i can accept that. My problem is with the way they dealt with it. The staff members attitude was far worse then my infraction.

the nerve of vmk staff.............. anyways, i'm just amazed they actually read our letters.......... i thought we'd all get that stupid ignore letter no matter what............. apparently i was wrong............... well, i'd suggest that we all do what Mal did if we find ourselves in that predicament, and maybe staff will take action..........

and i still don't understand why people use such language in the real and virtual world............. makes no sense whatsoever.

I believe I was in the room when you were banned, and you didn't see all of it. If I'm right, you got a two hour ban and another player in the room got a warning. I didn't see what happened before I arrived, but I can't imagine it was worth banning someone for. I think if you look up the origin of the new word you were saying you might get an idea of why VMK might not like it. Really though, unless you using it in a bad way, there was no reason I could see for you to get a ban and someone else to just get warned.
After you were banned, the three of us were trying to figure out why you got the ban. None of us could see why that word was bad in the way we saw it used. While we were talking, a VMK staff person came in and was asking if we wanted people to use dictionary dancing to use swear words, and didn't seem to want us discussing that topic any more. I was just trying to put together what was happening with the ban and why you weren't warned first. I belive most of us would stop using a word if VMK just asked us nicely not to, so that others wouldn't use it in a rude or not nice way. I would have only used it in the normal dictionary definition of the word, NOT having anything to do with the word's origin. Maybe VMK is starting to look for dictiony dancing for words they consider against VMK values?
Mal, I don't want to post that word here for others to see, but if you want to know what word I'm talking about, pm and I'll tell you.

I have been giving all this alot of thought today and as pointed out by a couple of people the staff member may have been offended by my second report and if so I would like to apologize for that.

I do think though a more appropriate reply to bad language reports would be like the one i posted in a earlier post.

I do beleive that Yavn and his staff are working diligently to rid the kingdom of the trash mouth players that are reaking havoc in the game. I know that they will never be totally gone because there will always be someone new to take the place of the ones gone.

It is still my hope that this thread and others like it help with making the game a safer and better place for all of us to play.

I do not mean to sound all negative with this post because if I was completly unhappy with VMK I would not play. Which is not the case.

Mal

I'm sorry to say that I can't agree with anyone who is using the staff may have been having a bad day or must be getting tired of all the unnecessary reports and therefore should be excused for their response back. I worked at the Police Deptartment here where we live for 3 years as a Dispatch Supervisor. We deal with everything from life threatening issues to people playing music too loud to just the generally confused people with no problems what so ever. Let me or 1 of my employees be even in the slightest way rude to any caller that calls in, whether it be an important call or not and see how long that person stays as a dispatcher (not very long at all I tell you). We took the job knowing what all comes with it (as do VMK Staff) and therefore have to be extremely polite no matter if we are being cussed out, hear anything in the background, getting threatened or whatever the situation is. We also deal with the multiple reports and the extremely unimportant reports, however we have to deal with each of them in the same manner... calm, cool, and kind. So I just can't agree with anyone that says although it was inappropriate, you need to look at it from their end... because what I dealt with IS their end and so much more.

That's terrible. They act as if the entire population on America is gonna die if we enter codes using shortkeys but then they act like very... Naughty messages are just fine.

And then they give Grumpy a two hour ban. From what I saw before he got the ban it was no reason for it. Something else could have been happening before I got into the room, but the word it seems he may have been banned for wasn't really bad at all. Maybe this is a sign that VMK is finally going to do something about bad words and dictionary dancing. If staff is tired of getting our complaints and is finally going to do something about it I fully support it, but the word wasn't bad in the context I saw it used.

mal i see your point clearly and i am very surprised that vmk didnt do anything about this..., Yavn your staff need better training!

like 7 months ago somebody reported me for not accepting their trade and friend request :rotfl: :rotfl: the staff contacted me to let me know and after i read that the person left
Same thing happens to me all the time. I wish there was a ignore button in pirates. People take it so seriously.

Nobody is saying that VMK staff tolerates naughty messages in the game.
It's just that will all the reporting that must be going on, it's probably very
time consuming to track all the reports.

I go under the assumption that the naughty players WILL get themselves
banned.

It's really funny, that there are times that Ignore button is useful.
If someone is just doing the usual "You're ugly" "shut up", etc. Ignore is fine.
But when the players are dictionary dancing curse words, I completely agree
with Mal and everyone that those players SHOULD be reported.

I remember when I was first playing VMK as a Guest (back when VMK was
shiny and new), and another player came up to me to tell me I was "ugly".

I thanked him. He tried it again. I thanked him again AND told him that I
enjoyed being ugly. He was completely confused by my response and left.
I was actually having fun at his expense, because he didn't get the reaction
from me that he wanted. :rotfl2:

Cursing (or dictionary dancing versions) are totally unacceptable at any time in VMK.

Period.

I've seen this happen over and over again in the game. I've reported people for this too. I will also get the canned response to use the ignore button.

I'm sorry. But that is unacceptable to me too. There are children playing this game. My Godchildren play this game. Do I want them to see those words? Absolutely not.

I agree that the second response from staff was inappropriately rude. I also do not care if they are annoyed at possibly thinking that Mal was trying to tell them how to do their job. The don't need to be so rude.
The person could have sent a message stating that they see her point (even if they really didn't) and they are working on it.

Obviously, the bad language and the rudeness on VMK will continue until something is done about it from higher up.

I will be the first to admit that i was dictionary dancing but it was in a private room full of adults. I accepted my 2 hour ban (even though a warning would have been nice) but what i object to is the way the staff handled it. It seems weird to me to ban someone then coem in the room to lecture about it. I really would have been ok with the whole situation if they had came in , lectured me, then banned me

I think the staff came in because we were discussing your ban and saying that we didn't think that word was bad. While we don't want people using dictionary dancing to say bad things, what was being said and the way it was being said wasn't really bad. I think if staff had come and asked us not to say that because of other ways the word can be used we all would have agreed not to use it any more. I really don't think you deserved a ban. When we were discussing the events, it was still in a private room with only three people (four once staff came in). I guess VMk might get suspicious of small groups in private rooms talking? Maybe that's where the worst language offenses occur?
