I just got my bf signed in online (he never uses online for banking/bills)

I found out he has over 7,000.00 extra cash to use. He doesn't know anything about this and I have only had Disney rewards myself. What can we do with these? It looks like its only small amounts off things :( anyone know what we should do?

I think he should change to another card that has better rewards programs. I hear Capital One's no choice is just like cash, you can pay bills with it and such!

he uses the card and pays it off, so he has high usage and can get a lot of points!! HELP!!!

THANKS!!!

There's really not much you can do with it. Check out the local deals and you can get some "okay" coupons that you don't have to pay a penny out of pocket. Other than that, you might be able to find a good deal on a hotel with the "Extra Cash," but everything else is pretty useless. Even the gift cards are only 10% off....

I am confused. He has $7,000 in cash rewards but you don't know how to use it?

What do you mean by "only small amounts off of things?"

There is a website where you can turn your rewards into gift cards......would that be helpful?

Yes he has 7,300 "extra cash" rewards. The site we log into for that program has nothing good :( International flights only :( everything else no good. Like 100.00 gift cards cost 90.00 (can only use 10.00 as extra cash). Everything seems to to be basically 10% as extra cash. So you would have to buy a whole lot of things with only 10% off to use that amount.

So yes, that site would be great! And any other info...

I think you might be misunderstanding. If it works like my rewards card, you can 'buy' a $50 gift card (for Kohls for example) for $45 of your rewards. It's ALL a bonus, not just the 10%. Look to see if there is an option where you can have some of the bonus points applied as a credit on his account.

I don't know if this will help, but when I had 40,000 Delta miles, I found a deal on Fat Wallet that got me American Express gift cards to use on whatever I wanted. Not sure what you can turn the other ones into, but you could ask on the forums there.

This is one site:
https://www.points.com/

I dug around this site (forum) and asked questions about rewards, etc....they may be able to help you.

I know the rewards program the OP is referring to. You can only use your earned rewards as partial purchase of the items offered on their website - which you can usually find cheaper elsewhere anyway . . .
We have a Chase Freedom card. We can use it to buy gift cards like some of the other posters have mentioned (Pay $45 for a $50 gift card) but you can also simply select for them to send you a check equal to the amount of cash back dollars you have earned. Then use the cash for whatever you want.

I am so glad you posted this. :surfweb:

We just got an offer and it listed "$500 in gift cards to use after 3k purchase in 3 months". It sounded too good to be true and now I know why! :rotfl:

I agree with you. I have a citi card and have extra cash also. And the total cost of a gift card that was $100 you can get for $90 and if you have enough extra cash to cover it, then you don't pay anything! OP, if you are confused about how the extra cash works, look at the FAQ section or help section, or even call citi.

I think different Citi programs are being confused.

http://www.askmrcreditcard.com/creditcardblog/citi-extra-cash-review/

The Extra Cash is NOT a rewards program, it's a discount program. You earn 10% of what you spend as Extra Cash. So that would mean for every $1000 you spend they are giving you $100 in Extra Cash. That $100 in Extra Cash is NOT redeemable for a $100 gift card, otherwise this is basically a 10% cash back rewards card and there is no way that's happening. You *cannot* use your Extra Cash to get something from free. The whole point of this program is to make it seem like a rewards program, when really it's a glorified discount program.

It's designed to get you to spend more money, in fact Citi probably MAKES money every time someone redeems their extra cash.

I think your right :( since he didnt know he had rewards, he didnt go for a card with good ones.

I am understanding it to be this "discount" too.

I will look further... thanks everyone!!

Well go ahead and log in, they do seem to offer some travel discounts and whatnot so maybe you'll find something; it won't be free, but you might get some useful discounts.

But if he is looking for a true rewards card, I say ditch the Extra Cash nonsense.

I have had this kind of offer before too - and it was a TRUE $500 in gift cards, so check it out before you write it off . . .

Hi all, I'm Mike from Citi. We're in Disney in Orlando every July for 5 days (from New York). My daughter is 4, my son is 15 months. This past July was certainly an adventure with an infant. Curious to hear people's thoughts on the "dining plan". Worth it, or not? My wife thinks yes, I think no.

Quick note for miss missy, your bf can call Citi and ask to have his current card converted into a different one that has a rewards program. Many times, we can do that. My primary card is a Citi Dividend card (cashback), and I like it. Don't tell anyone at Citi, but I have cards with other banks, as well.
:)

Best wishes, and fun times with family at Disney,

Mike

Thanks Mike for the info btw :) And WELCOME to the Dis!! The dining plan is great! Wont go without it! 15 trips to WDW so been there done that. The fact of not having to even think about food budget at WDW is very nice. The value is good too. Unless you shop for food and eat at your resort room to save, then dining is the way to go. The free dining offer cant be beat if you can go at that time.

If your planning other trips to Disney, I suggest you check out the DIS's podcast!! Great stuff and great fun. You can listen here: http://www.wdwinfo.com/disney-podcast/ or get it in iTunes!! Also the podcast forum is awesome too, at http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=158

WARNING!! ------> all of the DIS is an addiction!! Have fun!!! :goodvibes
