OMG MICE!!!! Please help!

Just to give you a warning about glue traps- they don't kill the mouse right away. Chances are you'll hear it squealing... My parents used one once while they were in college, and my dad ending up taking a hammer to the mouse to put it out of its misery. They also might tear off limbs trying to get out.....

When my grandparent's house was built, the duct work was run under the house in the crawl space. Well mice found there way into the duct work, and a couple of them managed to crawl out. But mostly you could here them scratching the metal ducts trying to climb.
I finally caught one in the middle of the night on the glue trap. I didn't have the heart to put it out of it's misery, so I stuck it in a plastic bag, on the trap, and sat it outside on the porch to take to the garbage can in the morning. By morning it chewed it's way out of the bag and off the trap. But we had 3 kitties that liked sleeping on the porch. So I don't know if it ever made the escape for freedom, but I never saw it again.

This is gonna sound crazy, but we had a terrible mouse problem for a few weeks earlier this fall. I put out poison, then traps. Finally, I read on the 'net that peppermint oil works. I tried it and poof, they were gone!!!

How did you put the peppermint oil out? I'm thinking little containers throughout your house! We live in the country and always get mice this time of the year. We just use traps with peanut butter.

our pest guy was showing us how mice get into many garages-the rubber tubing at the bottom of electric garage doors. he had us get down on our hands and knees then try to put our finger under the tubing-if our finger could get under the tubing so could a mouse. once they get inside an attached garage it's not difficult for them to find their way into your house.

When we move into our house...2 block down they were starting to build the high school. I had a mouse come thru my gas fireplace vents, coming from he garage. I hired someone to come out and set traps. The put glue one along the garage walls and put steel wool in any small hole he saw.

My neighbor told me -- that the mice where coming in from the small (corner) space near bottom of the garage door. That he filled the space with foam sealant and didn't have any more problems. So, we did it to...no more mice. That was 5 years ago.

You need to put a foam sealant between your garage wall and the track that the garage door is on. We started at the floor and went up about 12 inches. Then put out some glue traps (one on each wall) incase some are still mice in the garage.

We had a mouse this summer. I paid $150 for a pest control company. He searched my house all over and found where they were living and how they got in. He left lots of bait and came back in a week to seal up the entry point. Best $150 I ever spent...

Ok....funny story! My DH lived in MN for a time while I was still home in MO. We lived in a really old house. At the time it was just me and my dog Maddie (the best dog ever)! One night, I was laying in bed...it was about 1 in the morning...and I heard little scratching feet. I got up, flicked on the light, looked around the corner and saw about a bazillion mice (OK...it was only 6 to 10). I am absolutely PETRIFIED of mice. I mean, I know they won't crawl in my bed and eat me, but that's exactly what they're gonna do and no one can convince me otherwise....competely irrational....TERRIFIED...of mice!

So, I picked up the dog, grabbed some clothes, my keys and ran to my car. Called my boss and told her that I wouldn't be in the next day as I needed to get rid of the infestation (she laughed about how irrationally terrified I sounded over the phone), called my mom and told her I was coming up to their house and then called my DH in MN and told him that he needed to FIX THIS NOW!

Yes, I was hysterical. My entire family laughs about it.

But, my DH did call a place called Critter Control the next morning, then called me and had me meet them at the house.

I met them there, gave them the keys and told them to get rid of the mice. The lady who came out must have thought I was insane because I wouldn't go into the house at all!

I stayed with my mom and dad for the next few days until my DH came home. He cleaned the kitchen and the rest of the house, got rid of all evidence of mice and then I moved back in.

BTW, the mice even got into my tupperware flour cannister!

So, to this day, we have Critter Control come out once a year and place bait around the house in September and we've never had another mouse. Good thing too....I've warned my DH that now I have the financial wherewithall to flee to more expensive accommodations!

Yes, I am mouse phobic....and I admit it....I know they won't eat me, but sorry, if they're in my house they're gonna eat me!

I can so relate. MY DH was in AZ on business when I found a mouse in the pantry. I called him and told him to come home ASAP, I packed up the kids and left the house, & I then called the an extermintor. That night I stayed at a hotel...we have no family here. I would go back into the house until the mouse had been taken care of.

This may sound terrible and I hated doing it but I don't want to live with mice in my house. We put a small bucket under the sink (where we saw the mice) with some water in it. The next morning there were three dead mice in it. I guess they were thirsty. (they could get in but couldn't get out) Since then I have told a few others about this and it has worked for them also. Of course you need to know how they are getting in and take care of that problem also to keep others out.

I'm not a big fan of using poison bait to kill mice. Any predator that feeds on mice could become ill or die from eating a poisoned mouse. Ever since I've read about baby barn owls dying after being fed poisoned mice by their parents, my husband and I won't use poison bait any more.

It's funny how many people want to use poison to kill snakes. They don't seem to grasp the concept that they eat live prey, and to poison a mouse would kill it, and there for it won't do anything to the snake. If you want to kill it, grab a shovel.

I wouldn't use poison to kill mice, because I don't think I could live with the stench in the walls. And it doesn't really correct the problem. Glue traps work just as easy. And you know when they leave, there's no wondering.

The friends I have with cats have more critter problems than those without!

I guess every experience is different. I grew up in a large house with two cats (animal shelter specials) and we never had any mice problem...until after the cats passed away.

Fast forward to present situation: two purebred cats in our large house. The only evidence of mice we have ever seen is in the one section of the home where the cats generally aren't present: our finished basement.

We've found that micecubes http://www.viewpoints.com/Peid-Piper-International-Mice-Cube-reviews are the best solution down there when the mice start appearing in the winter. Baited with a small piece of cracker with Peanut butter, these traps are foolproof (mice go in and can't get out).

If you want to be "humane," you can release the live mouse by simply takng the micecube outside and turning it upside down. However, that isn't a good idea unless you release the mice miles from your home (if you let them go in your back yard they will turn right around and go back to their nest inside). That's why my hubby disposes of the ones we catch by dumping the live mice out of the trap into a pail of water (let's just say mice can't swim very well). Much simpler and cleaner than glue or springtraps, and the micecubes are reusable.

The humane traps only work if you don't have cats. In our first house our cat would find the trap with a mouse and then let the mouse out to "play" with it.

The friends I have with cats have more critter problems than those without! The cats will bring in a live animal to play with and leave a horror movie of blood and gore around the house. They've found moles, mice, birds, bats, baby rabbits, etc. One of these women lives in town.

I say get a dog. Dogs will kill the critter and get rid of any evidence.

I think it depends on the animal. Our dog (a very large black lab) is afraid of them.

Our cat on the other hand, is a rescued cat and a certified mouse catcher. We were having a big problem with mice when we first got her. While she did have the nasty habit of leaving the heads behind she had things under control in no time.

It sounds like you may have quite a few - so I'm not going to scare you by telling you how many babies just one pregnant female can give birth to.. Instead, I am going to suggest you go with the above suggestion.. Find a good, reliable company - with a guarantee.. They will get rid of them - locate and eliminate the sources where they are coming in - and come back to check to make sure it's all good..

It's definitely worth the money - far cheaper than trying "this and that" - and still not getting all of them because you can't find them and/or don't know how they're gaining entry.. Also, if you use any kind of poison the mice won't die "on the spot".. They will wander off inside of a wall or something and a dead mouse will smell horribly for weeks or months - however long it takes for the body to totally decay..

Spend the money - you'll be glad you did..

As was mentioned, don't use poison. We had one die in the walls and were out of our bedroom for about 2 months.
Also, stay away from glue traps outside. We ended up catching a couple of birds before we realized the problem with that.

I put it in a spray bottle and sprayed between the cabinet and stove. You can spray it on cotton balls, from what I have read it needs to be refreshed.

We had major construction on our home ending in August. Since then we have had mice. I am petrified! I have glue traps with peanut butter, and poison bait of several types all over the house. Yesterday I found droppings in my lazy suzan cabinet AND they had gotten into a bag of corn curls. My cabinets have no way they could have gotten in such as holes etc it is just that "SOMEONE" (read my teenage son ) left the door open. The construction guys used to leave my door open when they came in and out and I constantly had to tell them to CLOSE IT.

I AM having my kitchen renovated starting on Wednesday. I
I want to get rid of them before winter . I have to have more then one since I have found droppings in various places. I have had mice only once before.
I will be leaving a note for them to KEEP THE DOOR CLOSED> but that is like closing the barn door after the horse had gotten out!

Any sure fire ways to catch them. I do not want to hear "Have a Heart Traps" because frankly as far as mice are concerned...I don't have one.

I am afraid one might crawl on me in my sleep.

We live in a newer development and would get mice in the garage during construction times. I put those pest beeper things.....plug in to area, only mice can hear noise.......work like a charm. I have not seen a mouse since. I do replace them every year just to make sure they stay working. No issues and no chemicals.
