I know, I know... my Wife, daughter and I must be freaks of nature or the luckiest family in the whole world.
Long story short, we ordered our MB's online and picked our FP+ experiences back in early December, for our VGF stay the first week of February.
The bands were waiting for us on arrival (they don't ship to Canada), and it took all of two minutes for the front desk to get them set up.
They fit fine and other than taking them off for sleeping and showering, we barely noticed they were on.
Our first day in the park, we had pre-booked the Talking Mickey, ETWB and Peter Pan. When we arrived at rope drop, the line for Mickey was less than 10 minutes so we saw him standby, and rebooked our FP for BTMM late in the day. We switched our PP time twice on my iPhone, based on where we were in the park, and didn't have an issue with the app or using its functions (other than on the Mark Twain, where I couldn't get a wifi signal).
Day two was rope drop at Epcot. We had booked TT, MS and something else (don't remember, because we didn't use it). We walked on to Soarin', walked into the Mickey, Minnie and Goofy meet & greets behind Starbucks (zero people in line before or after us), and then spent 10 minutes in the FP line for TT and 5 minutes in line for MS. Other than the 4 hour wait to see Anna and Elsa (which we didn't do - I've waited 2 hours for my daughter to see a princess, but drew the line at 4), Epcot was a breeze.
FP's worked out really well for us on day three, as we booked our FP experiences for late in the afternoon at HS. This allowed us to spend the morning at DAK, and know that we would still be able to ride TSMM without having to be at DHS at rope drop. Yes, we only rode it once and not sixteen times, but FOR US, riding the same ride over and over again is not a big deal, and without FP+, we likely wouldn't have been able to ride it at all without a significant wait (since we didn't show up at the park until after 1 pm).
All in all, I acknowledge that we were the best case scenario for FP+, a low crowd week (although I'm glad we followed Josh's recommendations at EasyWDW), that we were staying at the resort (so could book early), and the fact that we are not a family who ever used more than a handful of FP- in a day. I understand that for those who don't have at least 2 of the 3 of the prior list going for them, FP+ might be an issue, but based on our experience, we have nothing but positive things to say about the system.
MB's worked fine for us, other than one glitch on the first day where I had to stop at Guest Services at Downtown Disney for all of 5 minutes to have them go into the computer to give my band charging privileges. The only issue with MB's that we found is that they are so easy to use, it doesn't actually feel like you are spending real money (at least until you get the bill at checkout).
Anyway, that was our experience. Flame suit on...

we wont be doing any charging so we are good there and hope they work as you suggest! We are pretty easy going people but I agree I will not stand in line for 4 hours to see a princess
