Some of you maybe following the chronicles of "Whiskers", my mothers newly rescued 10 year old cat. We have gone though her using the floor as a litter box, and with everyones help here, she is now using the litter box!!!

Wel, slowly kitty is warming up to my mother and her condo. Kitty is jumping off of her security blanket, the dinning room table, and exploring the condo.
Kitty is feeling very comfortable, because she ate my mother fried chicken!!
Mom called laughing that she reheated her a piece of chicken and left it on the kitchen table. The phone rang and while she went to pick it up, kitty was sitting on the table eating her chicken. Mom got the chicken from her and threw the rest of it away.

So, kitty has been sitting on my mothers lap for the last hour sleeping. I am sure kitty will be ok, it was just a shock that this cat, who has been pretty shy, just jumped up and started eating her chicken. And to actually crawl up on her lap and sleep. Kitty is feeling really at home now. Mother is so happy, and apparently so is kitty.

I didn't realize cats eat chicken??? I feel a little silly, thinking they just like fish. Guess, they like anything meaty.

I nicknamed my siamese cat chicken leg, she loved chicken. She got the name because she stole a chicken leg... :rotfl2:

I feel your pain. We rescued a jack russell/pointer mix back in September and when DH stepped out of the kitchen to ask me a question, she snuck in and ate a quarter of a pound of raw bacon off the counter, lol.

Our cat jumped on the table and grabbed a hamburger DH had just brought in off the grill. We also had a neighbors cat steal a T-bone. DH had started cooking the steaks and wanted to drop the level of the rack so he lifted it off and set it to the side. He turned around in time to see the cat grab it and run. I wonder if it burned its mouth.
My Grandma just got 2 cats a few months ago. I had to giggle the other day when I saw her lamp shade. It looks like it has been well used by the 2.
Cats keep things from getting boring.

My cat actually sits on the floor by the table and MEOWS loudly every night that we eat chicken. If we ignore her, she will put her front paws on your leg and cry even louder, until we give in to her.

LoL. If I bring in cooked chicken I have to do it on the sly. One of mine goes absolutely berserk if he smells chicken! He won't stop until he gets some. The other two couldn't care less. Go figure. :rotfl:

When my DD cat Inky was 4 months old(2 Thanksgivings ago) we had finished dinner and all needed a rest before cleaning up, and we were dog sitting for the neighbor across the street. When DD and I got back from dog walking we went up to the kitchen to find her kitten sitting in the living room with the turkey leg as her prize. I think the leg was bigger than her :rotfl: .

My dad's cat used to like Portello's beef sandwiches. My Athena loves chicken nuggets.

When she steals it just make sure there are not any little bones in it!

Actually all of mine love chicken more than fish, but turkey and bacon are probably their absolute favorites........oh and I have to be careful when I come home with Boars head maple ham from the deli, I swear they smell it from the car!

Did someone say "fried chicken" ?!?!?!?!

Great story! Thank you for sharing and keeping us up to date with Whiskers and Mom. I am so glad that things are improving, that Kitty is learning where to go potty and is feeling more at home.

A nice warm kitty in your lap - nothing better! :thumbsup2

When one of our cats was about the size of a chicken leg bone himself we heard a "devil" noise in the middle of the night. Each time he finds his human food "prey", usually a scrap of chicken or a large bone, he growls and moans to let us know there is no way in heck that we are claiming it. I put on the oven mitts sometimes to go into battle.

And he also protects any piece of bread at all costs. Bread!!

When my Trouble and Punkin came to us they never looked for scraps or ate people food so I was not prepared for Buster and Sassy. I had to keep everything covered because the little scavengers would go after anything that they could find. One night I had been baking cakes for a wedding and forgot to cover the last layer of the bottom tier before I went to bed. When I got up the next morning I wanted to turn two little kittens into mittens because they had nibbled around the entire edge of the cake. Good thing I had gotten up early to have coffee with my DH becasue I had to bake it again!

I am glad to hear that Mom and Whiskers are working things out, although I think that no matter what, Whiskers will set the rules, as every cat seems to do, and humans will follow directions ;) .

Chicken is the only "people food" my cat will eat, or so he thinks. He also eats hamburger, steak, some kinds of fish, and milk, but if I'm calling him over to eat it, I tell him it's chicken and he dives right in. Call it beef and he has no interest.

Oh, and a stray that my family once took in had a huge thing for mixed vegetables, especially corn. That was the only thing he'd jump up onto the counters for. Very weird.

Cats are carnivores...they eat any meat, well there are some that can be picky even with meat.

As for the cat finally warming up, it usually can take from a couple days, to a few weeks.

My cat also used the dining room table for a couple days as his safe haven, since not sure if he had ever seen a dog lol. But with in about 3 days he got off the table, started smacking the dog on the butt (playfully) and now dog tolerates that cat, and cat is now Mister I am a Stuff Cat...lol

Meant to add I had another cat that loved to steal my french fries.

Before DH and I were married, I lived in an apartment with my sister and we shared a cat. I was working full time and in grad school at the time, so I didn't always have time to cook. One night I came home from class with a bag of Burger King and settled down in my room to do homework.

Well, BK accidentally gave me a double cheeseburger instead of a regular, so I pulled out the extra patty, wrapped it in the paper and put it back in the bag to throw out. Then my sister called me into the living room for some reason and I left the bag on my bed, where I had been eating while I studied.

5 minutes later I'm still in the LR and my cat, Max, walks in. I distinctly smell BK on him. You know, that smell that permeates the air around any BK building. The smell is all over him. I rush back to my room and find an empty bag, a half eaten paper wrapper, and a few shreds of lettuce as the only evidence that my cat ate a whole burger in five minutes! :rotfl:

Cats are carnivores. (Oops - someone just said that. Sorry.) In the wild, they are hunters -- mice, birds. Chicken = one mighty tasty bird. Kitty was probably THRILLED beyond measure to "hunt" and "capture" that tasty bird. Maybe that's why she decided to sit in mom's lap! :goodvibes

My Kitty has been very ill for the past few months. One of her symptoms is that she is ravenously hungry all the time. Until her biospy last week, she was getting 2 - 3 oz of sliced turkey breast twice a day along with a can of wet cat food. She would tear through that turkey breast like it was the last food on the planet. Starting last night, she was put on a rabbit based wet food. She's chowing down on that too now. I think she misses the turkey though.
