I don't want anyone to get me wrong, I am glad that Riser got his sandals back.

But at the same time people who have been in situations similar for a lot longer have had NOTHING done to help them at all. And within 2 days he gets his sandals back personally by Lily? This kind of makes me mad especially since it was his own fault that they were stolen, and everyone has been warned about letting people borrow their stuff numbers times by VMK staff, recent quests, and members within DIS.

I agree 100%. IMO you shouldn't have gotten them back. You GAVE them away. Not smart. And shame on staff for treating you preferentially. There are tons off people who are really scammed out of their stuff and staff does nothing to help them.

No offense taken, I just wanted to clear that up. It seems a lot of people think I was trading. I was not. My scammer was a friend who I had let borrow in the past several times and he always let me hold something while he used my item and gave it right back.

This time he let me hold his items while he used my inferno to take a picture of himself. He used it right away and then immediately left the room and Deleted me off his friends list.

If you want to read more about my scam or discuss it please scroll up for the link. Trying to keep this thread on topic.

thanks
Same exact thing happen to me Mal, he usually let's me hold his inferno but this time he needed a "Picture" so he had to use the inferno in the picture.

I think that VMK needs to take a hard stance on scammers, players who abuse others trust are scammers. It is a well thought out intentional scam.

VMK needs to ban their computer so they can not change their IP and get back into the game.

VMK needs to take back the item(s) scammed and return to the person who was scammed and in the case where items were being "held" in trust, the one scammed should be allowed to keep the items just for the principle of it.

Trust is something we should all be able to have and breaching Trust should be a immediate ban for life.

Heh, this all belong to <removed> which I thought he was a "Friend" found out I can't use that term too lightly =/ I guess it was a cover up he said he was grounded, but hey we will never know this is a virtual game most of us out do not know who we're talking to! But hey let's just be happy I got my flippers back. =]

Let's pray for Mal that she gets her inferno back because I know what's she's now going through =/ and it sucks! I hope you get it back Mal. Best Wishes.

Wow that's sad he would do that when he had his pair of flips stolen and i'm sure staff knew about that xD king has had inferno 5-10 times before i'm sure he has had enough pictures xD and he has had green flips and inferno before xD

I agree with you

Example : from the newsletter! April 11, 2006 (I am sure it was in another more recent newsletter too)
Q: I let someone borrow my Turn Into Bat Magic to do a Quest and now they won't give it back. What do I do?
A: Whenever you let someone borrow something, either in VMK or elsewhere, you run the risk that they won't give it back. This is not a scam, and VMK won't replace the item(s) for you.

I would love to know the logic VMK is using to give items back to some people and not to other people.

Same here, I'm glad you got your filps back from Lily herself and i think even got a really rare or one of a kind shirt too, right?

It's just a bummer when a few months back, my daughter had all her stuff basically cleaned out of her account by another little friend of hers, who had "spied" her password and logged on to her account. I sent several messages to staff just simply asking for their help in helping a lesson belearned here, and not to replace her stuff. I think that at the very least least a warning of some sort from staff would have been sufficient, especially since I expalined in my messages that nothing ever happened at home. It really is knid of hard to understand the a virtual game to those who don't play or understand it.

If it wasn't for Skippypaul, who started the idea of planning a "gift giving" party and all of you who helped we probably would not have continued on VMK today.

Thanks again to those who helped. It would be nice if lessons can also be learned from mistakes, especially for the younger players, who should be learning from their mistakes.

Congrats on your flips again, but no sharing this time! So much for a lesson learned, oh well!! lol :)

that is why I never asked for my inferno back. I think they should give anything scammed back to it's rightful owners but they said they will not, so I never asked for it back. All I did ask for is a ban for the player who scammed me and all his/her many ids. A Life time computer ban.

Wow Rizer you got back your green flips and got a bonus shirt! Congrats.

hehehe!! that was on my birthday!

I agree that it isnt fair that some should be treated with almost "favouriteism"
but I dont want to be given out to, just speaking my mind

I was also compelled to send a letter into the black hole addressing the disparity in the system. Mabe the newsletter should be edited to read this way:

Then of course we'll rush to get your stuff back and give you some extras too!

Please, let's not get this pinned on Riser. I agree that it appears that the
VMK staff are giving preferential treatment to him, simply based on this
thread and the quoted newsletter item above...minus the sarcastic bits,
of course.

While I think it's wonderful that Riser got his flips back (and I truly have no
problem with this dude), I do think VMK staff are setting themselves
up with a double standard here.

"Well, you helped Riser get his green flips back, why can't you help me get
my _____ back?" I expect to hear a lot more of that now that Riser's
situation became public knowledge here on the DIS.

(This is my opinion only. I've never had anything scammed from me, and I
have lots of sympathy for those who felt they could trust others they've
known the game for a long time, only to find out their virtual items meant
more to the scammer than friendship.)

Gee when the moderator of the VMK dis boards can not get help getting her inferno back even with obvious pics included. Then there is no hope for others who are betrayed by trust.

I do not have a problem with Riser getting his flips back I think it was nice. I would however like to see more help to other players. Call it the VMK Disney Dreams Fraud squad. Now there would be no guarantee that you would get you stuff back, but once in a while a dream Staff comes up and gifts you back you stuff.

Kinda Like a fraud lottery. Now they would know that the item was scammed or trade was not really a trade but lent. And they could check logs. And once a month poof after the 100's of complaints we have a few winner :) who get there stuff back from the logs of what was taken, not from what they said was.

:thumbsup2

I received a warning in game earlier today for having the following signature:

Ashame on VMK Staff for giving special treat.meant to some.

Not sure whether it was the dictionary dancing or truth they didn't like?

Are you serious? I can't believe you got a warning for that. I guess the truth hurts. Well my signature says " If you let ppl borrow your stuff dont cry about it when they run off with it"

I bet its a filter catch, they just dont want "VMK Staff" in your signature.

Glad to hear you got your flips back, Riser. :)

Mal, maybe you should ask for help getting your inferno back? It couldn't hurt.

I have mixed feelings, I'm happy a kid who plays the game and was scammed by a friend because he was being nice, was helped. I don't believe for a minute any of us wouldn't have accepted the help if this happened to them. I do understand that people make mistakes and can only hope they learn from them.

But I do agree a precedent has been set and it wouldn't be fair if they didn't do it for everyone.

I've had problems with Disney Movie Rewards and never heard back from VMK BUT, when a DIS member cloned my name in VMK, they were right there to help.

How interesting that you defend this "player". This dude and his brother are the two Sweet and I received the most harrassment from over the past year. I think they were reported more times than I could count.

In my eyes this was not a scam. One of the cardinal rules of vmk...do not lend your possessions. Only weeks ago one of our best friends lost her entire sparrow the same exact way. The player was reported and absolutely nothing was done!! Why? Because our friend dont chase staff, sticks to herself, and don't want attention. Hmm her loss I guess.

Moral of the story............Neither a borrower or a lender be, unless you need a new shirt!

wow. Just wow. Loads of my friends have had this happen to them; usually with sparrow or inferno. The scammers eventually got banned and NONE of my friends got their stuff back. Yes it was stupid to do and yes they deserve it but favoritism does not belong in VMK. But glad you got them back, you were lucky.:thumbsup2

Okay, i really have fought whether to comment on this for a few days now, but I think there is a giant life lesson here that is not necessarily being taught.

Trust is something that can be broken, but if you agreed to something, the world does not owe you anything.

If I'm on a trip ask someone to take a picture, whereby handing over my camera, and that person runs off with my camera it is awful and a terrible statement about humankind, but ultimately it is my own blind trust that is to blame. I handed a stranger my camera. I made a choice that resulted in a loss.

Yes, but that's a stranger. What about when it's a friend?

If I have a brand new diamond bracelet and let a friend borrow it, signing 3 papers that I understand it's really a gift, and she never returns a phone call ever again, no one is going to replace it for me. I willingly let her have it.

In VMK however, this ties in with the other VERY VERY VERY important lesson that must be remembered: In most cases, you don't know the person on the other side of the screen, no matter how many games of ghosts or pirates you have played together over the last year.

There are many life lessons to be learned from VMK. I personally do not think that if you click "ok, it's a gift" 3 times, getting your items back should be 1 of them. That is not a scam. That is an agreement. And getting it back is not the way life works.

Harsh? Yes. Painful? Yes. Better to learn here than with a Rolex 10 years down the road? Yes.

There is someone in VMK that at this very moment has a very valuable item of mine that I would not be able to trade for if I were to ever lose it. Do we have an agreement between the 2 of us? Of course!

BUT... Do I realize that this person COULD decide tomorrow that our agreement and friendship means absolutely nothing and delete me or trade my valuable item away for his/her own benefit? Yes. If this happens, have I been scammed? Yes. Should it be replaced? No. According to the terms of VMK, this person has a new item and I have clicked that I understand it is a gift. Any agreement outside of that is NOT VMK's responsibility, but my own.

I made a personal decision, 1 many would say I should NEVER have done, but in making that decision, I also have accepted that if something were to happen and I lose that item, it's gone. Forever. VMK should not replace it. I have chosen to accept the chance that I could lose it forever, along with my trust and the friendship: things much more important than pixels.

Do I think this will happen? No, or I NEVER would have done it.
Have I accepted that it could? Yes, or I never would have hit accept 3 times.

Personal responsibility.
People you THINK you can trust, aren't always trustworthy.
The world does not fix things when YOU make the choice.

Rough lessons to learn, but better in the virtual world than the real world. Two other lessons that we can all learn from VMK:

Different people are often treated differently.
Life is not fair.

Of course, it is also nice that in "fun-ville" you don't always have to worry about real life lessons and that sometimes things do have a happy ending.

Glad you got your flips back Rise, but wow this saddens me because a good friend of mine let a friend borrow stitch and sparrow for a picture and had it taken. Everyone wrote and still nothing has been returned.
Then look at Mal, she got her inferno stolen the same way and yet she didn't get hers returned.
So personally I think vmk staff needs to stop playing favorite and if they are going to return items to some ppl they need to be fair and return them to all.
