I just talked to my sil who went home to see if her power is on and to check on her house. she saw an electric worker and was talking to him and he said that people are so mad about not having power that they are at the electric trying to beat the doors down and it is so bad that there are several cops in the parking lot to keep the workers in side safe. :sad2:

now I understand their frustration but to do this? :sad1: :scared: I am at a loss for words.

Dang, that is pretty bad. :guilty:

I can remember during Katrina people were getting upset with gas station attendants when they ran out of gas. It was not a nice time. :sad2:

Were reports of similar things happening here when power was out for about 3-7 days. :(

my sil did say that the worker said it could take up to another 2 weeks to get her power on but she didn't act like that all she said was well looks like we need to be patient. of course they are staying with me but nothing we can do about it but wait. no matter how you act your power isn't coming back on any faster! :sad2:

They're at the electric company? What do they think they can get some to go?

It never ceases to amaze me what people will do when there is a natural event.

This year will be 6 years that a natural disaster effected me. We were lucky to get a generator before said hurricane and it was our lifeline. We live on a cul de sac so we know who belongs and who doesn't. We had people drive on our street looking to see what they could see.
One guy even came up to the house and asked how long we had the generator. After that, we put blocked our generators in between the houses and put our cars in front of them so people wouldnt steal them.

Maybe they want answers.

We had a situation last month where many people were out of power for several weeks after an ice storm... the utility was strangely silent about issues like why certain (wealthier) communities got power before certain (less wealthy) communities did. There was no: "Here's our plan of action" that would have explained why they were doing what they were doing -- they simply wouldn't answer the phone, for consumers OR reporters.

Now they're in front of some judges, I believe.

Unfortunately natural disasters bring out both the best and worst in people.

Having seen first hand the behavior that occurred after hurricane Katrina, I am not at all surprised at what is occurring in your area.

In December, parts of MA & NH were out for over 2 weeks, a few close to 3 weeks. While they were mad, I don't recall any reports like that. wow.

There is an investigation now into what took one power company so long. Public meetings are being held to discuss it.

I'm a little lost: why don't people have power? Did I miss something that happened? Where is this at?

The (now not so recent) ice storm in Kentucky and other nearby states. It's been awful.

agnes!

yes they have told us their plan of action some just isn't wanting to hear it....

While I can understand their frustration (I just had to endure my MIL staying with us - luckily she stayed with my SIL for the first half of the 9 days without power), they really need to cool their jets.

Our power never went during the storm, thank goodness, but we did lose power today for about 5 hours while they were working on the lines. Last ice storm we were without power (and with a four month old baby) for 8 days.

DH was an engineer for an electric company in MA. During one major winter outage he was sent out with a line crew from Canada to help them find their way around, read the circuit maps, etc. They were threatened with bodily harm by some residents who approached armed with baseball bats and spoiled food. It was only after the residents saw that one of the line crew was VERY LARGE that they backed off. This was in our own town, in an area that was known for such problems. Nothing that I hear about such stuff surprises me.

In contrast, in another area during another storm, his crew was offered coffee, cookies, and anything they wanted by residents who wanted to help them out.

Meantime I was at home alone running the snow blower and stoking the fireplace, and my neighbor was doing the same while her husband ran a snow plow. We didn't have electricity either.

First of all, I feel for the people without power. It must be horrible for them. But people can do some wacko things! It sounds like people in that town are starting to get that mob metality going. There is no excuse for what they are doing. How is attacking the electric company office going to help? I'm sure the employees are doing everything that they can.

I feel for all of you up there. We, luckily, escaped the major ice.

Are ya'll with Entergy by chance?

I made sure I told all the electrical crews I saw, "THANK YOU!!"

But I can see how upsetting it can be. I've had friends without power for 8 days now and it's really starting to get to them. Most frustrating is the fact that you have to deal with horrible automated phone systems when trying to talk to your electric company and you can't get a live person to talk to. I spent 45 minutes on the phone today, hitting buttons, trying to talk to the electric company and I kept getting a "thank you, goodbye!."

I did this on behalf of a friend. When I was without power, I dialed my power company 168 times (my cell phone kept count - I kept getting a busy signal) and got through 3 times. Each of those times I was disconnected by the horrible automated system.

I just wanted to report my outage. It was terrible.

I am normally not easy to anger, but I about flipped my lid. When I did, however, finally get through to someone, I was very nice to them. I knew their lives couldn't be easy at the moment.

I understand where people can get stressed but violence and threats of violence is never an answer.
