OMG Have You Ever Had To Call the IRS?

I'm "on hold" with them now. My boss is having me call them to ask them a question regarding the company providing parking to its employees.

I have been through 6 representatives so far--each saying "Oh, I'm going to transfer you to a person that can help you."

I've repeated my story 6 times and am now on hold (been 15 minutes now) with, I think, the fringe benefits department. Egads.

Of course, I tried to look this up on line and it was as clear as mud.

I feel your pain. And then when you think you have the right person, they refuse to talk to you because you are not the owner of the account. :furious:

But, I do have to say , most of the reps I have spoken to are fairly helpful, and reasonable, and have been able to resolve my issue.

Good luck!

Well, fortunately, it is a "general" question so I hope they can answer.

I'm still on hold and my ear is sweating. :teeth:

I'm convinced they hire imbeciles to man the phones. :sad2: Usually they mumble so bad I have to keep saying "Excuse me?" Then they take all of my info and decide they can't talk to me because I'm not authorized. I'm the one that did the last tax return but I'm not authorized.

Publication 15, Circular E page 11 addresses parking as a fringe benefit. (Non taxable fringe benefit), but refers you to Publication 15-B for details.

I've found that. I guess what I'm wondering is: does it matter if I provide them with a check for their parking or should the company have the parking bills routed through them.

Also, what do you do about employees who take public transportation?

They finally answered but could not answer these questions.

:offtopic:

Sounds like the costumer service my husband had with Cingular a few weeks ago.

Try getting a letter telling you the social security # you used for your DS was used by 2 people. They also sent me a form if I needed to file a corrected form. They said I could possibly be audited and I freaked!!! Oh, and try having it happen between Xmas and NY and there is no one there to answer your question.
I finally got everything straightened out. I called SS and made sure the number they had given him was correct. I was told either someone accidentally used his #, or someone keyed someone elses in worng at the IRS end. That was the longest wait on record to get an answer.
The nightmares were a little less when I had to file to get our PTO turned into a 501c3. They got our name wrong and many other problems and it always took forever and many many people to get it straightened out.
I wish you the best of luck getting yours taken care of. Oh, and don't call back and ask someone different, you will get a different answer.lol
