Opting out may hurt your FICO score. You're removing available credit when you opt out and then you have a higher ratio of debt to available credit.

oh. okay, I gotcha. my plan is to get a different card, so hopefully that will offset any ratio change.

so would I be better off not to opt out, since I will have that balance until late january, and then just cancel it at that time?

OP, I think it will be better for your credit rating if you pay it off BUT leave it open and just not use it. :thumbsup2

absolutely it is best to have things paid off, which is why that is usually the case for us and will be shortly. however, I am peeved that they are doing this so I don't plan to stay with them as a company.
