OMG!Angry Cast Memembers and Picketers

wow i think this thread may get locked soon. me my self i agree with SY. I dont care that they picket and protest but theres no reason for the loud pots and pans or the band playing or any other stuff. They should of just picketed (NO COUSTUMES and no wake up calls to other guests.) picket on the side line picket and chant or what ever. no blow horns no bands no stupid ppl confusing poor little kids who see evil queen or cindrella.

I for one am sorry for the ppl but they knew what they got when they took the job if there now un happy then find work else where its america you can quiet anytime. (of course in todays ecconime i wouldnt quiet any job)
Hopefully this will all be tooken care of soon

And the reason my son dont like ballons is becosue they pop on him or fly away so now he dosnet want them at all..all well spend 7dollers on a perment suviner in stead one that will fly away or pop in the day

http://www.ocregister.com/news/disney-disneyland-union-1969491-contract-negotiations

Looks like they have been trying to negotiate a contract for months now. If they haven't made any progress in 6 months then I'm not holding my breath for them to settle by my trip there in 2 months. All the more reason to get a Theme Park View so you don't have to look out your window and see these fools!

I don't know about calling them fools as it always IMHO takes 2 to tango. Although I am not really sure what they are unhappy about, I do know that we visit DL very often being AP holders and stay onsight during 99% of those visits, I know I would not want a buch of unhappy hotel workers taking care of my family during our stay! Can you imagine the service we would get??? I am sure that it would not be up to Disney standards and when we pay for a stay onsite at one of the resorts; with what we pay, we expect they Disney service that we should get for the amount of money it costs most of the time to stay onsite.
I really hope they figure this all out soon and it is sad that it had to come to this. I can imagine that there have been many unhappy guests that have been getting room comps and money back due to this situation.

Maybe I missed it, but where are the picketers located?

We'll be staying in a 2 bedroom suite, and I've requested park/DTD view from the Dreams tower.

:) Ok, regarding someone questioning the 6 am. time frame. Yes, sad, but true, it was six A.M:scared1: And I think everyone that posted would agree, it is difficult to have sympathy for a group of people, no matter what part of the park, hotel, restaurant, they work in, when you are woken up that early! You know, I am sorry that the pay is not what it maybe should be, but I did not choose that for them, what I did choose was to S.A.V.E $$$ for a long time for this trip. Yes, we are lucky to be able to enjoy the parks, I love it! And as far as people being held as "Pawns"- I don't think there can be a distinction in the way a person can be held as a pawn, in the way this situation has been handled. The picketers may believe that if they tick-off enough customers that Disney will cave, that is being held as a pawn. And its Doubtful this tactic will completely pay off., now I don't know if Disney is fair to there employees-what I do know that having a job is a privilege and not a right. And F.Y.I the min. wage level is $8.50 an hour. And by the way, one hundred percent agree with tipping, tip big! The CMs deserve it! but it is not "the right" of the worker to receive one, it is the right of the person giving to decide rather or not they will tip. And you know, those that work, do spend 5-6 days away from their family's as well.

Just curious, I will be staying at the PPH Wed-Fri nights. Are they still protesting? If so, can you really hear it from your room? I assume the windows will be closed. I'll be sure to bring earplugs!

to bad for those people who save all there money to go on a family vacation probably only once a year. it would definetaly suck some disney magic out of me to wake up to this. i hope they get everything figured out soon. so innocent paying people can enjoy there time off.

First off, I find it in bad taste for them to be wearing costumes while picketing. Yes, it's an attention grabber, but if Cinderella really was yelling at cars, as the OP said, then it's out of line. I'd hate to be the one having to walk a little girl past that and explain why "Cinderella" was being rude (could you imagine if you caught "Cinderella" swearing? Fun times explaining to little Susie why her favorite princess has a potty mouth).

Having worked minimum wage before at a place where I had to alot extra unpaid time for navigating the building where I worked in order to start work on time and currently having a commute based on public transportation, I don't really have sympathy for those who ***** about having to get to their station before their time began without getting paid for said time (if I miss my connecting bus, it's my fault, not the fault of the company I work for). The only group that I would feel for are the characters, since they can't necessarily do the make-up on their own time but have to have it done by someone else (or is that incorrect?). If that is the case, then they should get paid for the time spent in the makeup artist's chair, just like the average paid model and actor.

I agree that CMs should get paid more or at least should have their benefits be given back in respect to increased revenue made from jacking up ticket prices, but the picketing has gotten to be a little too much. Living in the Bay Area off and on for the past 10 years, I've seen a lot of different types of protesting groups and, imo, they could do without the noise so early in the morning. The noise is more appropriate to draw attention when the majority of people are heading to the parks around 8 am, but 6 am seems too early, and are the horns and drums neccessary when they have a mariachi band (more pleasant to listen to and more likely to get attention without pissing off potential supporters)?

8am id have no problem with the noise. but really if they want attition brought to them if its positive attition maybe they would get some where in stead of all this negitive attition and really i dont know who would be so stupid to wear costumes. they should of known it could be BAD could be seen by so many little kids who dont know the diffrence.

I like your post you worded it all right
and i cant belive min wage is 8.50. its only 6something here

Forget once a year; some of us have saved to go once in a lifetime. I doubt we'll ever get back to DLR again; at least not unless the gas prices go down (which I doubt they ever will). I would be furious if I had paid big bucks to stay at this hotel, and then had these workers waking up my kids at 6 am. Not an issue for us I guess since the PHH was out of our budget (we'll be at Tropicana instead).

I've seen a couple of sides of strike... my DH had been involved in one when we had a 9 mos. old baby to support... he stood and picketed for a few months, whilst making maybe $400 CAD a month!!, but eventually, he had to say to his co-workers, I have a family to support, and I CAN NOT DO THIS...They understood and supported him. I do not feel that Disney is giving these working folks the good end of the stick. I think they deserve more than what they are getting, and I also feel that they are well within their rights to picket... I have seen both sides of the coin, and sadly, feel that their making too much noise/chaos for young 'uns is their major downfall... why not just walk the picket line quietly, and if the DLH guests ask, then tell them why you are out there...But to fuel the fire in the mouths of those who literally feed you - it can only turn out to be a negative. :( I DO think you are likely entitled to more - BUT please, do it in a positive fashion, whereby you are not hurting the very mouths that feed you. Personally, I would not complain to the staff at the hotel, in fact I would encourage them to GIVE YOU WHAT YOU THINK YOU DESERVE, BUT with all that being said, it is kind of umm, NOT very Disney-like to hurt those (children mostly) who can not stand to hear the POTS AND PANS beating at 6 AM! PLEASE think of the children... as one who has a special needs 11 year old child who would NOT do well to be awakened at 6 AM, I am sure there are other family's who feel the same.

[With all that being said, I am IBTL...]

Good luck
, Employees, and please, think of others.. not all who visit DL are rich and can afford it... it is what we make of priorities... and if I feel that showing my children first hand what Mr. Walter Disney created from HIS DREAMS is important enough for me to show them that, then please respect my family's privacy... We are not rich by any means, and are using air miles to make this trip a dream come true for us. (That being said, we can not afford to stay on Disney Property as much as we would like to.... but just so you know, not all of us are 'rich *itches.') (Edited to add: NOT all who stay there ARE rich *itches, but rather, some who have scrimped and saved every dollar to make THEIR own dreams come true. :))

YES!!!
I think you guys DO deserve more... BUT please, again, do respect the guests rights to sleep in whilst on vacation, as well. (((HUGS))) to DL hotel employees who work so hard, and Good Luck with ALL! I honestly hope you get what you are asking for.

:) I really think that Mr. W. Disney himself would have seen to it that ALL needs were met. LONG LIVE MR. W. DISNEY!!!

Hipp hipp, Horaay! (:yay: )

Jade, it is higher than other places, however the cost of living is VERY high. If I made 8.50 an hour, I would not have a place to live, pay gas, and eat.

I would guess though that most people making that wage are the secondary earners in the home; that is, Moms working part-time while Dad is the main earner, or vice versa. Because, you are right, that isn't a liveable wage. It wouldn't be liveable even here in Iowa, where the cost of living is dirt cheap.

I'm currently a stay at home parent, but will be returning to work next year, when my youngest starts Kindergarten. I have a job lined up already, and will be making $7.20/hour.;) . So I guess it's hard for me to find much sympathy for people making more than what I will be waking families like mine up at the crack of dawn. Families who maybe (like mine) drive older vehicles (our most recent vehicle is from 1999) and buy "fixer upper" houses (rather than newer ones) so they can afford to go on vacation once a year, or once every few years.

From what I read. It is only $8.00 an hour as the minimum wage in California, So if they are making just $8.00. That means In-n-out is paying their employess $2.00 more an hour than the people who work at Disneyland. I dont blame them for being upset as Disney is a far bigger company than In-n-out is and they are getting less pay.

Are we sure they are actually getting minimum wage? Just curious. They should be paid more though. I'm glad I always tip :D

My guess is if they are in a union they are making more than min. wage. But I don't actually know. Also, I was under the impression they are arguing over benefits. I would have to know exactly what the issues are to take sides. Except I'm on the side of not waking up people at 6am. ;)

I saw a newscast about this. Disney is taking away their health benefits. They make minimum wage, and if they have to pay for their own health insurance, they would not be making a living wage.

As I was looking at the pictures of the picketers and their signs, it just made me really sad. Their signs saying "What about OUR dreams?" made me wonder if all those people who work so hard to make our visit a great one, can even afford to take their own family on a similiar vacation?

I don't know what the issue is, whether it's pay or benefits, but either way, I hope they get what they need and work so hard for. It's just an unfortunate situation for all involved.

They are not taking away their health benefits rather they want them to pay a portion of it like $100/month. Fron what I hear, the rising costs of health care are second only to the rising costs of gas!

I cant be sure just like anyone else that doesnt know at all if they are or not. Im just saying that if they make less money than people who work at In-n-out. It is sad as Disney is a bigger company than In-n-out and Disney should take care of their employees.
