Olympus Evolt Series

Too pretty to stay home and do chores so I had to go to the lake. It would be a total surprise to my wife if I ever cleaned anything on my day off!!! I took both my Oly 410 & 510.

This is an attempt to use my 70-300 with monopod using shutter priority mode. On the 410 it's a challange with no IS.

Here I'm using the 50mm with ESP metering, handheld. Cropped to show the sharpness, I don't do this lens justice.

Here's the 50mm with spot metering. Uncropped jpeg.

While I was messing around with these flowers I disturbed this bobcat that was 20ft from me. This lake is 5 min outside of downtown Dallas.

E3 or maybe E30?
Stay tuned...

I am also really liking these m4/3 cameras! Did anyone get the email from Olympus this week with the 9 videos highlighting them? I can see us purchasing one some day to round out our equipment options.

Nice pics obm!

Nice....we need to see some photos :thumbsup2

Didn't get it but they have been featuring lots of videos on the Get Olympus facebook page. I'm impressed

Congratulations on the new lens!!!:yay: I've never read anything negative about that lens.

Congrats Pea-n-me! Do you have the 70-300 also? I think the m4/3 is probably in my future also. I was just thinking a couple of days ago how nice it would be to take to WDW.

Next June we're going to DL so I'm looking to have one before then.

Our daffodils will probably be blooming in the next week or so. I'll have to get my 50mm out and try it out.

Love the picture of the bobcat! Do you see them often or are they pretty elusive? I've tried to get pics of deer through the bushes like that behind my house, but it always seems to focus on the branches in front of it. Do you have any tips?

Pugrpooh- I've been going to this lake for a number of years and have never ran across a bobcat. I've seen tons of coyotes, hawks, even beavers, but this was a first.

Thank you! No, I never got that lens. I thought about it but I needed it for sports and I was afraid it wasn't fast enough. I did get the 18-180 which I love as my walkaround lens and used for sports last year but even that I don't know that I'll be using much once I complete my set of the new lens plus it's counterpart w/ smaller focal length (at some point - some of you have that one, don't you? Joe I know does).

This one I've been lusting over for a while. A friend at work has both (50-200 and 70-300) and he told me the other night he's thinking about selling the 70-300 now as he hasn't used it since he got the 50-200. I did get the older version of the 50-200 so it's not lightening fast like the new one, but I got it for about half the price of the new version, and reviews are still excellent, so I'm happy. I should get it Monday night. I can't wait to try it out!

Linda, are you still looking at the Sigma 18 - 50? (I highly recommend it)

That 50 - 200 seems to be one sweet lens.....congrats!!

Right now my wish list is:

1) E-30 ( decided to wait until year end to see what may be coming out so hopefully E-30 price will go down)

2) 50 - 200mm lens

3) FL50R flash

4) Micro 4/3 camera (maybe E-PL1)

We're on the same wavelength, Joe. :thumbsup2 Let me know what you find in the E30 pricewise (and I'll do the same). I am looking at that lens and similar ones. I might even get it together with the camera when I make the leap.

I'm sure you've been doing the same, but I've been looking at E620 vs E30 and think that E30 is the way to go. Being bigger it feels like it will balance out the 50-200 better, but also it comes recommended as current best in the Oly lineup. I think having fast lenses will help overcome the biggest issue of best performance at lower ISO, so I can work with that.

I bought that flash and the other, and still haven't figured either of them out yet, lol. (Of course I've barely shot anything this winter.) I put it on the camera and usually it fires :rotfl2: (user error, no doubt) which is more I can say for the cheap flash I bought early on (junk).

I think that whole thing a few weeks ago made me really think about this. Bottom line is I love Olympus and look forward to enjoying my Oly gear for many more years to come. I think the addition mFT only helps.

I have to really think it all through as I'll be giving DS the 510 and probably the 18-180. I'll need to decide what to do with the kits. I wanted to get DD a nice camera and she's a pns type of gal, but maybe mFT is the way to go with that? :confused3 I just wouldn't want her bumping it around and such, will have to talk to her more about it. Maybe for next bday if DS gets the dSLR.

The nice thing about all this is that things are fairly easy to sell if situations change, etc.

:rotfl2::rotfl2: Good guess.

I got the 14-54 f/2.8

(And I now need a new camera bag. :faint: )

Cool!! That's a great lens from what I hear and the image samples I've seen.

I didn't want to do it but I used some of my E-30 funds yesterday to buy Adobe Lightroom. I've been working with the trial version and liked it so much that I had to buy it.

Yeah, I've been pondering that one, too. I'm not sure which way to go with it. I did buy a book that will hopefully help me make a decision, but so far it hasn't helped :lmao: and in competing with my renovation books, I read a page or two of it and switch it out for the home books every time. :rotfl2:

I guess I do have a bit of spring fever as far as the photography thing goes. I've been in such a complete slump all winter, I'm looking forward to getting back into it. I hope I made the right decision in buying these lenses, but I think I probably did. I'd really like to get the E30. At least when I do, I can pretty much buy the body only now.

So tell me your secrets for the 14-54 (is that the one you have also, or did you get the 12-60?)!

Oh and btw, Joe, your shots have been looking really great over the past month or two. Can you share with the rest of us what you've been doing?

Thanks!! I haven't been shooting much so far in 2010...been too cold and too wet. This weekend will be nice though so I'm planning on getting out on Saturday.

Actually, I got the Sigma 18-50 f/2.8. Really a great lens but sometimes I wish I'd gotten the Oly 12 -60 instead. You just can't beat Oly glass.

Do you have the 50mm F/2? I've got the old OM 50mm F/1.8 but it doesn't auto focus with the new cameras.

Actually it isn't me....It's all processing. :rotfl:

Seriously, I think Lightroom has really made a difference in handling the RAW files. It give you the ability for so many adjustments and different looks. Also, once converted to a tiff file, Topaz Adjust can give the image a nice pop to it.

No, I don't have the 50mm.

I was debating between the 14-54 and the 12-60. The latter is twice as much new. I read tons of reviews. Both come highly recommended - but the 12-60 is probably superior, as best I can tell. I decided to go with the lenses I went with, and found them used to keep costs down. Neither is the SWD version. Which is why I said I hope I did the right thing. But I figure that these will be an improvement from what I have now, and will still do a good job for me. Especially if I combine them with an E30. I wound up getting both lenses for $950, which is less than the cost of a new 50-200.

Yes, I see that your pp has made a nice difference. Your pics are popping. I need to get there, too. I'm working on it, lol. I think this can be said of any camera - pp just makes a nice difference. I wish we all lived near eachother so we could have a class or something. :3dglasses
