In fact, I'm so excited about the upcoming games, I'm practically giddy! Anyone else?

Here are some things I'm looking forward to:

Track and Field (nothing better than a mad dash to the finish line and watching people launch themselves into the air with poles.)

Swimming (huge number of UTexas students past and present made it to Athens- Hook'em Horns..OK, I'm a bit biased since I tutor a lot of UT athletes)

Gymnastics (nostalgic fav. since I idolized these athletes when I was a little girl)

Basketball (love NCAA over NBA, and while I'm not a huge fan of the "Dream Team" effect, there is something about playing for your country that harkens back to amateurism. Plus, still love to see Tim Duncan play, being an ACC/Wake Forest alum)

And, of course, the Opening Ceremonies! Love the massive theatrical spectacle!

DH and I are getting very excited about it. We have a very nice widescreen TV that is HD ready, but we've never bought the box so that we could actually watch TV in HD. Well, a commercial came on saying that the Olympics would be broadcast in HD....DH has been on the computer all weekend looking up what we need so we can feel like we're there. That stupid commercials going to cost me some money! :p

I love the summer Olympics, but I'm not a big fan of the winter Olympics. :o I love the opening ceremonies, but I don't like the closing ceremonies. They're always sad or something. :o :p

I'm looking forward to all of the swimming and diving competitions! :Pinkbounc Mark Spitz ... I used to have his poster hanging in my room when I was a little girl! :p And Greg Luganis was just absolutely artistic when he dove! I loved watching him! I like track and field events too, but I won't miss any of the swimming or diving events.

Oh, except synchronized swimming. I don't care for that too much. :o

Saffron- I loved that poster! My friend's mother had it hung up in her office. It was the first time I had seen a life-sized poster. Swimmers today are certainly less hairy- I wonder how much that 70's moustache slowed him down.;)

LOL! :p I never thought about that! I bet he could have REALLY set some records without it, don't ya think. :p

Can't wait...always inspires me to turn up the volume on my workouts!

The Tour de France, though, is doing a fantastic job of filling in the gap before the Opening Ceremonies!!!:bounce: :bounce:

looks like another summer of hurt for our olympians.please give us winter olympics........bet you wish you had eddie the eagle:p

I absolutely LOVE the Olympics!!!! Summer or winter, it doesn't matter!!

My all time favorite tho is gymnastics with swimming coming in a strong 2nd!

My 17 yr old DS can hardly wait for the Track part as he is so into Track events himself.:D

Track and Field. Best memories of watching olympics involve track and field, but the scandals this year have kind of bummed me out. The greatest olympic memory I've watched on tv was when Michael Johnson won the 200 in Atlanta. The dude rounded the final turn and literally went into a higher gear and set a world record. He has a funny running style that made him look like he was showing no effort. I think he had golden shoes too. Carrying the flag around the stadium, ahhh what a moment.

Swimming. Loved the matchup last time between the US and the Aussies. The US team looks strong. The diving team seems to be in the rebuilding stage though.
