Gearing up Olympic fans! All week I have been and will be glued to the tube watching the US Olympic Trials. We've had some track and field, swimming and all of diving done so far. Great stories emerging...Phelps looked good (got beat by Ryan Lochte who I think is adorable!!).

The big story right now was the dead heat finish for 3rd in the womens 100m dash. The two women tied are both coached by the same coach and both train together. They have a choice of a run off or a coin toss. They'd be stupid to leave it to a coin toss as the one who goes to the games stands to reap a HUGE bonus from their sponsors.

Tonight more swimming, but it's the gymnastics trials this weekend that have me most excited.

Also thrilled that Reed Kessler and her horse Cylana made it on the equestrian team. At 17, Reed is the youngest equestrian competitor EVER at the Olympics and Juuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuust barely qualified as she turned 17 this year!

:yay: I'm watching! I flat *loved* seeing Ryan Lochte beat Michael Phelps in the swimming last night! :thumbsup2 IMHO, he is in Michael's shadow ... even the reporter interviewed MP first and not Ryan ... and Ryan WON. :confused3

I hope they do another race to determine the women's 100m dash. I just don't think a coin toss is in the spirit of the games. Let 'em run! :teeth:

I also watched some of the diving yesterday. I'm completely hooked - can't wait for the actual games to begin. :hyper:

I follow track & field pretty closely. That situation is unbelievable. I'm hoping Felix goes because I think she is the better runner but what I think will happen is that Nike, who sponsors both, will step in behind the scenes and Tarmoh will decline the invitation which is the actually the first tie breaker.

Regardless, they need to come up with a process for a dead heat and it should have been in place before they ever got to this situation. A coin toss is a terrible idea and a run off isn't much better. In reality the tie breaker should have been either the better time in a qualifying heat or the runner with the fastest time in the 100m at a sanctioned meet within the last x number of months. USATF is often made to kind of look like clown shoes.

Very excited for Trials!!!

Enjoyed swimming last night! A friend of ours is ranked 5th in an event so excited to see how she does this week!
We love Phelps AND Lochte! Lochte looked awesome! (not a fan of the Clary felllow at all).

Also excited to watch gymnastics!

I watch but dont know much about Track and Field. Are either of the women who tied going in any other events? Coin toss doesnt seem like a good idea at all!

Oh and 71 year old (yes I said 71!!) Japanese equestrian Hiroshi Hoketsu has qualified for the games for team Japan as well. It's unclear whether they will send him even though he's qualified but how COOL would that be? That's why I love equestrian...men and women compete against each other and the age range is stunning (though technically Reed is a showjumper and Hiroshi is a dressage rider).

Enjoyed Track and Field this weekend, rooting for my Gators participating. Haven't really kept up since then though, except for the tie.

And I'm now enjoying keeping tabs on my Gators (current and former; though once a Gator, always a Gator) at the swimming trials. Great showing so far. :thumbsup2

Yes, the Gators are doing great!!!!!

I wouldn't put much stock in Lochte beating Phelps at this stage of the game. Phelps is notorious for doing just as much as it takes to advance and then turns it on in the finals. However, as an avid swimming family, we love to watch all the swimmers. Looking forward to watching Missy Franklin today. State high school was exciting enough. Can't wait to see her in the Olympic Trials. She is the most down to earth teen and such a great person.

One of my son's teammates earned a trials cut, so hopefully we will get to see him. Doubtful though, as he is not predicted to move up from the lower heats. But exciting for him to be there amongst the greats!

Lochte was holding back, too. It's going to be interesting.

It always is with those two. They are both phenomenal swimmers!

This may be the year for Lochte to shine. Phelps has not put in near the training he did for Bejing while Lochte still wants it badly.

I am also rooting for Janet Evans to make it out of the 400 and or 800 free.

My 7 yr old & I watched the track & field trials. She's a competitive runner (400 m & 800 m) & long jumper. She cracked me up during the diving. She was all, "The platform is only 10 m high?!?! That's like 5 steps when I'm running!" LOL I had to explain that it's different when it's straight up in the air. She also gets more and more intrigued with the pole vault the more she watches it. Yikes!

cheering for Lopez Lomong!!!!!:yay:

A local guy with a great story (they are making a movie).

You might have seen him in the Tide and VISA commercials, and he carried the American Flag at the last summer Olympics!!!!

I'm a swimming fangirl so the Olympics are one of my favorite things. =) I've loved how Phelps and Lochte are so back and forth with their winning, no one is the clear "favorite".

Also excited for gymnastics! Yay.
