Olympic Tragedy yesterday..I would like to send prayers to this young Luger's family...This is a horrible thing to happen in such a happy event....please all say your prayers to this mans family who are grieving for him:angel:

what tragedy... link ??

A Georgian luge competitor lost control on the Whistler track during his final training run. He went flying off his sled and hit a conceret pole, resulting in his death.

Apparently there has already been some consternation of this particular track: instead of flattening out like most tracks do after the 11th curve, it continues to drop, resulting in high speeds a no margin for error. It's the fastest track in the world- by a lot. Several competitors had already voiced concerns over the speed and safety of the track where crashes are apparently common.

Disneylover79,

I welcome your call for prayers for this young man's family. It is very upsetting that this happened, especially at a time that was meant for rejoicing. Very tragic. May God be with the family and team members.

I thought the way it was handled in the Opening Ceremonies was very moving. I teared up when the Georgian athelets marched in with their black armbands. :sad1:

Prayers for the young man's family. I wondered if they had made the trip to Canada for the games, or if they were watching at home. I can't imagine what would be worse - watching their son die on TV or having to go home without him. :sad1:

Why did NBC show him dying on TV? I saw it yesterday, and had to do a double-take:confused3
