Olympic Fever!!

OMG, Dara Torres is a total inspiration (aren't they all hehe!). I'm going to be 32 about halfway through the games and I feel like a huge couch potato!

Sadly, it was just announced that she is dropping out of the 100 m freestyle, and will focus on the 50 m as her only individual event. She was concerned that having 2 individual events and possibly 2 relays would be too hard on her body, given all the preliminary heats she would have to swim.

Can't say I blame her, and I can understand her rationale, but I sure would have loved to see her swim both individual events.

Pshaw...On the US Olympic Equestrian Team, three of the 4 riders are over 40 as well. Beezie Madden is 45, Laura Kraut is 43 and Will Simpson is 49. Yup...forty NINE!

Debbie McDonald is all but assured a berth on the US Olympic Dressage team and she clocks in at 54 years old!

I think that's part of why I love my equestrian events so much. The riders are not only competing for a LONG time, but men and women compete against one another.

I just LOVE the Olympics! I will be stuck to the tv for as much as I can watch and DVR the rest. Especially the swimming, equestrian, and gymnastics. I can still remember watching Mary Lou Retten doing her vault so many years ago. Such wonderful memories
