Olympic Eating With Team GB ** COMPLETED - WDW & DCL**

Mmh, liquid lunch! :goodvibes

Both the sandwiches look very yummy - I made a note of that, since we stay right next door.
And ALL your "liquid food" looks VERY inviting to me ...... :rolleyes1

I will be asking you for food tips for OKW Karin, as we are hoping to stay there next time :thumbsup2

Linda, sorry if I missed it earlier ... are you going to be posting a TR for your cruise? I'd love to read it - Jay and I are booked for the Fantasy in October and would like to get an adults only perspective and I know yours will be good!

Thanks!

I'm not actually doing a TR - I am too damn lazy :rotfl:
Happy to help with any Qs you may have about an adult only cruise, we had a wonderful time and can't wait to be cruising again
Fave things for us were the Cove Cafe (best Chai Lattes ever!)
We had a wonderful dinner in Palo but Remy was seriously one of the best dining experiences we have ever had :cloud9:
Not sure if you are into the whole spa thing but I booked a length of cruise pass for the Rainforest Room and it was soooo worth it.
I was literally in there at least twice of day :goodvibes
Oh and as soon as you get on board, ask guest services about the various tastings that are available throughout the week and sign up for any you want to do. I did Champagne tasting and mixology and they were both excellent
One last thing, don't miss the animation show at Animator's Palate, kids or no kids it's really impressive :thumbsup2

You CANNOT be serious - getting ready to leave already?! How am I supposed to plan my drinking schedule, sorry, our ADRs?

I know, I know, time just goes too quickly

Hmm, I've looked at the cornflake thing from all angles, but, its not going to knock the breafast pocket with breakfast potatoes off my top spot at WPE.

Do the Babycakes cupcakes need to get to room temp before you can tuck in

Ha ha! - the babycakes cupcakes were served at a slightly higher temperature than the ones from Starring Rolls so they were pretty much perfect :cloud9:

I try and eat vegan as much as I can, so this looks wonderful to me! I wasn't aware they had lemon cupcakes, though I know their selection varies, so maybe they haven't had the lemon when I've been there. Their cupcake tops are really good too, less cake, more frosting! :goodvibes

I really liked Babycakes and just love that it's there as an option in DTD :goodvibes

Hey Lady! Stay away from my fella Stitch!!;)

Really want to try La Cava this year - don't know what I would try though!

I LOVE the tattoo! I'm seriously thinking of getting one myself - so pretty! :)

Oh you must go to La Cava and I would say go for the Avocado Margarita - you will love it, money back guarantee :cool1:

Let's brush over the food and get right to those adult drinkies...

I've never tried the Grand Marnier slush since I haven't been able to bring myself to stray from the loveliness that is the Grey Goose Citron. Luckily for me, you have now made that sacrifice and I can live happily knowing I am making the right choice each time and will continue to enjoy my citron slushie goodness :thumbsup2

I really like the sound of La Cava but since it's all about the tequila and, as you know, me and tequila have a history... :rolleyes1 If you ask me, what Epcot really needs is a good martini bar.

Oh, and may I just add, how incredibly responsible it was of you to make sure you soaked up all that alcohol with that substantial chocolate covered strawberry

Love the reviews - as usual....

Looking forward to your La Hacienda review. :thumbsup2

I am more than happy to try out various drinks on your behalf Joh ;)
Fear not, actual food will be featured in the next review!!

Dinner At La Hacienda De San Angel

Our final dinner this trip was to be at somewhere new to us

La Hacienda De San Angel

Now I love Mexican food and you can usually get some good vegetarian options but DH isn’t much of a fan so I was a little concerned that he may not enjoy it as much as me

Not so concerned that I didn’t make an ADR though :lmao:

We checked in really early, just to ask if there was any chance of getting a view of the lagoon as I had timed our ADR hoping we could watch Illuminations from the restaurant

The CM on the podium outside said that he would try his best if I didn’t mind waiting and handed us a buzzer which he told us would work anywhere inside the Mexico pavilion so that’s where we headed for yet more shopping

I lost track of time but I’m pretty sure that we were buzzed and seated fairly close to our ADR, maybe a little after

We didn’t score a window table; from what I could see, they seemed to be for much larger groups but we were led to a raised booth in the main dining room and we actually ended up with a great view of the fireworks

I loved the lights in here, this is a beautiful restaurant and even though it was very busy it seemed to cope with the noise well

Our server was an absolute treasure and couldn’t do enough for us :goodvibes

I’d heard that La Hacienda had a separate vegetarian menu so I asked him about that and he bought one over to me right away

Whilst we were reading through the menus, our drinks arrived together with some really tasty chips

15d65d12.jpg

Avocado Margarita - El Mayor premium silver tequila, melon liqueur, fresh avocado, agave nectar and fresh lime juice, served frozen with a hibiscus Himalayan salt rim

Guess who ordered this one ;)

Not quite as good as the Avocado Margarita that I had enjoyed at La Cava on a previous trip but good non the less

DH ordered a coke and we tucked into the chips which were accompanied by a red and a green salsa

Onto our entrees

0e13b4fb.jpg

Tacos de Vegetales - grilled vegetables and queso fresco on flour tortillas, served with esquites (roasted corn)

This was my choice from the vegetarian menu and it was absolutely divine :cloud9:

Everything was packed with flavor and with just the right amount of heat. The roasted corn added a wonderful sweetness and the tortillas were sooooo fresh

And for DH

9ce6b1a6.jpg

Puerco en Salsa de Mole Negro - Roasted pork tender loin with mole negro sauce, served with esquites (roasted corn), sweet potato mash, beans and vegetables

He asked that the sauce be served on the side and good job he did as he really didn’t care for it

Everything else was fine and he cleared his plate but I don’t think he was wowed by any of his entree

We were also served rice and beans

08e3d1ee.jpg

Rice & Beans

The beans weren’t vegetarian so I didn’t try them and DH has just told me that he didn’t either so we can’t really comment on them

I ate some of the rice and it was good but wasn’t really needed with either of our entrees

Illuminations started about half way through dinner and the lights were dimmed and the beautiful music was piped in

This really is a great location to watch Illuminations from

Right - slushy moment here (don’t worry it won’t last long!) but sitting together on the final night of our amazing vacation watching Illuminations was just ..... well, you know

Anyway, back to the reason you are reading my waffle ... the food

Now although DH was a little disappointed with his entree, there was no such problem with dessert

I give you what, in DHs opinion, was the dessert of the trip

d4740ef9.jpg

Empanada de Manzana - puff pastry filled with sautéed caramel apples, served with dulce de leche ice cream and cajeta (caramel sauce)

He absolutely loved this dessert, everything about it was delicious and he tells me that the ice cream was so wonderfully creamy and perfect with the apples and caramel sauce

The more observant of you may have noticed a candle sticking out of his ice cream!

I’d totally forgotten that I had mentioned his birthday on our reservation as it was his birthday shortly after we got home so the dessert was presented by 4 servers singing Happy Birthday in Mexican :cake:

DH certainly ‘won’ with his dessert as although mine was OK it wasn’t a knock out

8507923d.jpg

Helado - traditional Mexican ice cream

I think it was raspberry and Mango flavor and it was much more like a sorbet than an ice cream

I kept getting ‘brain freeze’ and gave up about half way through so we settled our bill after what was a lovely dinner and headed back out into the park to enjoy Extra Magic Hours until midnight :woohoo:

Next Up ..... Boo, it’s the last day

Sounds like you had a lovely last dinner Linda :goodvibes

There is something very special about being in Epcot during Illuminations with a loved one, it's very romantic! "We go on, through the joy and through the tears....." :cloud9:

Cant wait to hear what you had planned for your last breakfast!

I love this dining review! While I'm not old enough to partake of the adult beverages, I now know Disney has a plethora of them lol.

Though I'd like to point out... The language spoken in Mexico is Spanish, not Mexican. So they'd have sung happy birthday to your DH in Spanish.(: sorry, my Hispanic side cringed at that!

Linda, we've been to La Hacienda twice and think the view of Illuminations is just spectacular. And yes, I cried both times.:cloud9:

I understand lazy all too well - thanks for taking the time to respond. We were on the Dream in October and have been on the Magic before so we're familiar with almost everything you mentioned. And Remy was amazing - cannot wait to dine there again this fall!

glad you enjoyed your cruise and thanks for sharing all of these reviews with us!

I'm not actually doing a TR - I am too damn lazy :rotfl:

Loved your review of Mickey's Backyard BBQ! That looks like something DH and I would love! I have never seen a review for this, so thanks for taking the time to write one. :thumbsup2

Your meal at La Hacienda looks delicious! Adding another one to the list.

Awwww!

That meal at La Hacienda sounds lovely! What a great place to watch illuminations.

(And I think you're right about the avocado magarita at La Cava - that's already got my name on it....)

Time to catch up after falling behind.

The babycakes cupcake looks great! I was pleasantly surprised when I tried babycakes. The chocolate-based products weren't my favorite, but the red velvet was surprisingly good IMO. I'd love to try some of their fruitier flavors. :goodvibes

Regarding La Hacienda, that's another place that I want to try again sometime. I didn't love the shrimp tacos, but a lot of the other dishes there look great.

Finally, I have to try that avocado margarita eventually. Can't order it yet, but I'll definitely keep it in mind. :thumbsup2

Linda: Noooooooo you can't end your reviews soon. You MUST include your cruise dining, I insist. ::yes::

We are booked to dine at La Hacienda in August and although I didn't like my entree last time, the pork your DH ordered looks good....I've never had mole sauce before so I think that is a great idea to order it on the side in case it is not so good. Of course, the margaritas may make everything better.

The apple caramel dessert looks amazing and I think I've already made my mind up 60 days in advance as to that part of my meal!

You were so funny with your comment about running at WDW since you are doing vacation eating! As I was running tonight a thought crossed my mind that I don't think I could put in enough miles to be as tiny as you and eat all that food while on holiday! :worship: I'm just not that disciplined.

Hmmm, wonder if I could go to La Hacienda just to get that apple and caramel dessert. The rest of the menu doesn't appeal at all but that dessert looks sooooo good

Hello - been reading your report and just loving all the reviews. Just thought I would add that we have been to La Hacienda twice and have loved it both times. One of my favorite places to dine. Me and my DH always get the dinner for two with the seafood option. He loves scallops, we both love shrimp and then we share the fish. It is so much food for two people though. We never finish it all.

And our girls also loved it when we took them. One daughter had the steak and one had the fish. To say they loved it is an understatement. It is definitely a must do for my family.

As for our seating, well, we have never been up next to the windows. Both times we have gone, whether just DH and I or all four of us, we have been seated in the moon shaped booths. While it is a nice seat, we had trouble seeing the fireworks that are up in the sky. But, it was all good and we enjoyed sitting in comfort, eating a delicious meal and just relaxing.

Thanks for letting me share! :goodvibes

I agree!

Linda - I am glad your final meal was a good one (all in all) - but the view of the illuminations must have made it extra special :goodvibes

I love your reviews! Just read them all so thank you for taking the time to write them. I am headed to Disney in 2 weeks and would like to add a La Hacienda reservation. What time was your dinner ADR for (if you remember)? I want to try to time it to watch Illuminations and they have full availability (7:30, 7:45, 8:00).

Thanks again for such great reviews!

It was a lovely evening, sometimes you just stop and think 'wow I'm lucky' - argh, I am being soppy again

Oh I hope I get this right
"lo siento" :flower3:

Linda, we've been to La Hacienda twice and think the view of Illuminations is just spectacular. And yes, I cried both times.:cloud9:

DH still raves about that dessert Joh, and from a man who normally says everything is just 'OK' that's saying something

Just march on in and ask for the dessert menu ;)

We nearly ordered the seafood dinner for two, it sounded amazing but the vegetarian menu grabbed my attention :goodvibes

I agree!

Linda - I am glad your final meal was a good one (all in all) - but the view of the illuminations must have made it extra special :goodvibes

It was a great night, and even better that we still had EMHs to enjoy when we left the restaurant :cloud9:

I hope you have a wonderful vacation :goodvibes

Hi Linda,
Mickeys BarBQue looks like a lot of fun!! My DD, DGD (9) and I might have to try it next year. We don't eat any meat, and my DGD and I don't like salmon, so did they mention any other choices for vegetarians? I'm sure we would have plenty to eat with the side dishes. Thanks for all your reviews. I really enjoyed reading them!!
Joan
