Oldest feature of your home?

It was built in 1986. The upstairs bathroom hasn’t been remodeled, everything else has been.

Original claw foot tub in the 2nd floor bathroom.

Relays controlling the overhead lights, i.e. the switch on the wall controls 24 volts AC that triggers an attic relay that controls 120VAC to the light fixtures. Apparently this was a fad when our home was built in 1963. The life span of the original relays seems to be about 50-60 years so I've replaced a few with current model relays that make less noise. https://www.kyleswitchplates.com/sierra-despard-low-voltage-lighting We've had electricians rewire in a few spots but I'm ok with crawling in the attic when needed.

The main section of our house was built in 1854. Other sections were added on in the 1920s and 1940s.

I have an antique, wind up wall, pendulum clock that is about 35 years older then I am. So that's #1 and I would be the second oldest item.

Me. My house is just a tad over 20 yo. I’m a whole lot older than that. 🙂

Well since I am not the original owner, I have no clue what was or wasn't updated or when before we moved in, in 2009. If I had to guess I say it is the heater &/or AC.

My house was built in 1942 but my parents remodeled the kitchen and bathroom so originals things are 1 window, floors, fireplace, plaster walls.

Well, since our house turns 30 this December, there isn’t any part of the building itself that is older than that. The oldest furnishing is my grandparent’s library table, which basically divides the living room and dining room in the open space. It is the size of a desk, with curving legs and a lower shelf about six inches from the floor. My mom used to tell me stories about how she played and napped on that shelf when she was a child. My grandfather was a school teacher, and did a lot of work using it. I do not know how old it is, but my mom was born at the beginning of The Depression, so it’s at least that old. To me, it looks late Victorian or possibly Edwardian, so it may have been a wedding gift or early marriage purchase since my grandparents were married not long before before WW I.

The house was built in 1972. We still have the clothes drier. I use an outside clothes reel in the warm months and poles in the basement in cold weather. I used it more when my daughter was little. She visits a couple of time a year and uses the drier.

Original 1970s yellow push-button built-in stove and matching range hood. And I suppose all the kitchen cabinets, too.

A lot of our plaster and woodwork is original to the house, which was built in 1880.
