Older kids ordering off of kids menus?

What rules do the restaurants (both counter service and sit-down) follow regarding ages for the kids menu? We have three kids (16, 14, 12) who are light, and very picky, eaters. They generally do much better off of kids menus. Is that an option for them, or do we need to stick to restaurants where they can find something on the adult menu?

You can order whatever you want off the quick menu because the kids don’t have to be there when you place the order. Even if they are it doesn’t matter. You could even order kids meals off quick menu for yourself.

I’ve ordered off the kids menu for my kids in sit down restaurants when they were over 12, but I haven’t since they’ve been teens so I can’t really answer that. I’m sure you could ask. Or just chance ordering it. Maybe they can split a meal instead? Or have an appetizer each instead. ???

My daughter (12) has ordered off the kids menu several times. The only thing that she has been asked is does she want the adult or child portion a couple of times. She doesn't eat a whole lot so the kids portions tend to work well for her.

We usually split a regular meal at table service or do appetizers, salads, soups. As others have said, they don't care who orders what at counter service.
