Old Ticket and new System?

I admit we are a bit lost on all of the MDE stuff going on at Disney. We have been cruising for the last few years and haven't really visited the parks that much (other than hitting a MVMCP last Dec but that was a separate ticket event).

So we are headed to VGF in August for just a few days after a stay at Vero Beach. We have old park tickets on old room keys we would like to use.
Can we use these with the new system? We are only planning on one park and hopefully a Water Park and/or Disney Quest depending on how many plusses we still have left. So here is what I have:

Room keys from 2006 with Pluses left (water park and Disney Quest)
These are 2 Adult and 2 Child tickets (my kids are now considered Adults)
These do have serial numbers on them but no bar code on them

Room keys from 2010 (all Adults) and should each have a One day park ticket
These were un-activated from a trip where we bought a package but already had AP passes to use at the time of the trip. My understanding is that these remain good until we activate
.
These tickets have ID#s on them with a Bar code as well

So my questions are:
Do I attempt to link these to DME at all? I don't think I could even try to do that for the 2006 ones but possibly for the 2010 one.

Can I simply use these tickets at a turnstile at the Park or Water Park or Disney Quest? This is what I would like to do but not sure if they even have a way to let people in with old tickets anymore.

I don't know that I care whether on our trip to the one park (either EP or MK) for one day we have FP accessability. Is it worth linking and having issue to the MB just for some FPs? It is mid August so I think we will have crowds but I would rather wait in line at a ride then wait in line to get a broken MB fixed. Is there even a way to get FPs without having your ticket linked to a MB that you have to use?

One last thing. Do we have to use MB at the resorts for our room key/charging? When we visited last December for a quick relaxing trip at AKL the MB were optional and we were given both the MB and a room key. When we went to the room my DH's MB didn't work to open the door so we just left them in the room because I didn't feel like wasting time on my Vacation to get that fixed. The regular KTTW worked just fine. Can we still do that?

Thank you for any help with this!!

Thank you for any help with this!!

1. Yes.
2. You can.
3. Maybe not, but no reason to do so with those IN ADVANCE of your trip.
Once you are at WDW, you can exchange the old tickets for new RFID enhanced flat plastic tickets and use those at the gate and at the FP+ locations in the park. And/or add these to your MagicBands at that time, if you like.
4. Yes.
5. Nope. But, you can exchange the old tickets for new RFID enhanced flat plastic tickets and use those at the gate and at the FP+ locations in the park.
6. Nope.
7. Your decision, of course.
8. I don't see why you would NOT want to do so.
9. No reason to assume that the MB's WON'T work, but anything is possible.
10. Nope. You can request a flat plastic "regular" RFID card/ticket and that will work in place of a MB.
11. Yes.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the tickets from 2006 wouldn't be valid anymore unless they were no-expiration tickets, right? (And the OP doesn't state that they are.)

In 2006, MYW tickets were being sold.
If they were used and not NON-expiring, they are long dead now.

OP says "pluses left" so I always assume the questions are about valid tickets.

If the tickets are not valid, nothing matters anyway.

Yep they are non-expiring passes. We had 10 day non expiring with 8 pluses or something like that. We have since used all the park day passes but the pluses are still there and we have been knocking them down over the years.

Thanks ROBO! I figured you would have the answers.

1)Do I need all of us there at the desk with me to exchange our old tickets?
2) Will they link new finger scans to them or use old one (kids have grown)?
3) Will they take the ones that just have pluses on them and give us new RFID cards or
4) Will they put both the un-activated ticket and pluses together on the same card?
5) Do I do this at Guest Relations in a park or can I do it at Grand Floridian?

Thank you!!!!

OH And one more.....

1) Can I still upgrade the un-activated one day pass to a multiday ticket? We may not want to do this but want to know if I can.

Thank you!

Non-expiring tickets compare your finger scan today with the same finger scan you used when you first used the tickets, or in the case of two-finger scans (seamlessly without telling you) take a fresh one-finger scan today as if you were using the tickets for the first time.

Yes you can trade in an unactivated ticket for a new ticket with more days but it is superior to wait until you are ready to use the ticket (same or future date), activate the ticket by using it, and then upgrade it. For a one day ticket you have until the close of business to upgrade it.

seashoreCM has great answers for you, but I'll reiterate with mine.

1) No, but I would, just in case.
2) New scans.
3) You can do that. Also, can put those assets in your MyDisneyExperience account and they can be accessed via a MagicBand. (Not necessary, but it can be done.)
4) They will not combine tickets.
5) At the park, for sure. GF, maybe.
BUT, be sure to upgrade your UNUSED tickets only AFTER you have entered a theme park using those tickets.

Yes. Do that AFTER you have entered a theme park using that ticket, and upgrade sometime that SAME DAY.

We just did this in May with non expiring tickets we had from 2001 (3 plus options left) and non expiring tickets from 2008 (one park day and 10 water park days left).

We went to Guest Relations in the MK and they converted the old passes to new media for us. With the exception of the Plus Options from 2001. DH and I each had 3 Plus options left on our passes. It was my understanding that a "Plus" option would get you into a water park or Disney Quest or ESPN Wide World of Sports. They tried to tell us that the options were specifically for ESPN. I can tell you that we would never have knowingly bought tickets for ESPN. We purchased the tickets from AAA back in 2001 and were told the "Plus" options would work at all 3 places. I'm not exactly sure where the problem is, if AAA just didn't give us correct info or if the CM that converted our tickets was the issue. I will say that the CM who converted our tickets (a manager by the way) was quite rude and condescending to us. When we argued with him about the Plus options that should not be for ESPN only, he gave us major attitude. Maybe we were right and maybe we were wrong, but the way we were treated was unacceptable. We asked him not to convert the tickets in question, he threw them back at us and said, maybe you can put them in your scrap book. Unacceptable way to treat a customer. We also witnessed the same CM have problems with another guest as we were leaving. A person came in thru the exit as we were leaving and started screaming at the CM about an earlier problem. So it appears that we weren't the only ppl he was giving a hard time too.

We would have escalated this up the management chain, but unfortunately we were on our way out of the MK and did not have a lot of time before our flight.

Bottom line is you can convert your old tickets to new media, but be mindful of exactly what you have on the old cards and what they are giving you.
Also, you do not have to have a MB, they will give you an RFID card.

Thank you all for such great detailed responses. I sure do hope we have better luck than Meech because I know for sure as well that we had Disney quest and water parks. Thanks again everybody
