OLD THREAD: 2012 Beach and Yacht FAQ, Part 2- May, June and July DON'T POST HERE!

One of the things I do now is run...I am running 3x per week, and I have my first 10k this coming Sunday. :cheer2: I enjoy the running and how it helps me keep the weight off. Is it crazy to think I might want to run one or two days while at Disney??? I know there is already a TON of walking involved...I wonder if I'm going to kill myself if I add in a morning run or two? :confused3
!!

I hope you are not crazy because I am right there with you. I signed up for my first 20k which is 2 weeks after we get home from WDW. While I won't do a "Long" run, I am planning on 3 or 4 miles maybe 4 mornings... Like 5am to beat the heat (well... at least try to beat the mid August heat).

Sorry- I intended to respond to this yesterday, but forgot.

CMs in non-tipped positions are permitted to accept NON-CASH gifts with a value less than $75. I have been told that gift certificates are not considered to be cash, so they are an acceptable gift.

Since you are already there, it limits you to what you have access to.

For CL, I tried to think of a shared gift, so I brought gift bags with local treats from home. I also included a couple of Walmart gift cards.

Perhaps Disney gift cards or a gift certificate to a local pizza place that delivers would be a treat that some of the CMs could share.

Hey there natebenma! THANK YOU SO MUCH! Great ideas! We just got in from SAB love it! We are having a greate time!!

A 20K? Is that like a half marathon? There is no way I could run that right now. Good luck!!

I need to get back into shape to do a 5k first, which is just over 3 miles. I've never been a runner, but a few years ago, I started working up to it and still never quite made it to running an entire 5k. Then there were a couple set-backs, but I really want to complete one within the next year. Just thinking about multiplying that by 4 is making me tired.

Can you believe I'm still switch ADRs around?

Just found out recently that Yachtsman's has a surf and turf now so I added that.

I've just got to figure out one ADR to cut so the kids can go to Disney Quest and eat at WPE. So hard!

There's a surf and turf :cool1: when did the menu change?

Talked to people at Cape May Cafe. And ribs will not be back I was told. I told them I had complaints about the sauce that the short rib pieces were in ... told them it would be better with BBQ sauce like on the ribs. I also said the tomato, cucumber and mozerella cheese salad was missed. They said that might come back. They said they haven't been getting complaints. So ... you all know what to do if you are upset with the changes.

Yes. A 20k is 12.4 miles. Almost a half marathon, which is 13+. I'm a little nervous and had to get coaxed into signing up with DH. He has done it before. I run almost every day and once a week I do 8-10 so I should be able to do it. I just want to finish... Not really worried about my time, but DH thinks I can do it in under two hours. Not sure about that because I average 10 minute miles on my long runs, but can do a 5k in under 26 minutes. :confused3 we shall see. That's why I need to at least run a little while in WDW and the area around BC looks like a great route!

We really like it there. We are up there for 5 days in a couple of weeks. We always stay at the Anchorage By The Sea. My kids love it there!

Enjoy your time there!!

Jay

Thanks! Enjoy your time too! Anchorage By The Sea is a lovely spot.

Congrats on signing up for a 20k!! That's awesome!!

I am super-impressed that you're going to be running in that Florida August heat. *thud* I ran 2 miles yesterday morning at 9am when it was close to 90 degreees (we eventually hit a new record of 102!), and it felt SO awful. I know I should've gone out earlier but it was hard to get out of bed on a holiday. ;)

Good luck to you! Let me know how it goes with the running AND park-going!

I have lost 30 pounds since November (80 pounds since my highest weight, which was actually pre-babies :guilty: ), and of one my biggest worries is gaining weight while at Disney. It will be the biggest test of my new "healthy lifestyle" so far--for sure!!

Happy day after the holiday, everyone!! PS: Teena--that picture of you on the horse at the dude ranch is AWESOME!!

We just got back from a combined Disney cruise/Disney World trip (not at BC so I haven't posted about it here). I'm training for my first Goofy in January. I ran 7 miles the 1st Sunday before boarding the ship and then 3 miles the 2nd Sunday (I also ran on the ship on a treadmill one day and did the Castaway Cay 5k one day).
Here's my advice. If you're going to run - and the Boardwalk area is a great place to run - set your alarm early and run before the day starts. It's the coolest time of day. And you will see many other "crazy" runners out there!
This was honestly the first time I've successfully kept up my training on a vacation and I can say that it felt GREAT to get those runs done.
Good luck and congrats on making healthy changes!!!!

Amanda

Just wanted to say that in two weeks I'll be at Disney! And in two weeks and one day, I'll be checking to the Beach Club! I cannot wait! :cool1:

Awesome! We just got back from our first stay and it was incredible. You will love it :thumbsup2

Way to go :thumbsup2. I am 35 lbs lighter since the last time we went, just hoping not to gain to much back while we are there. Hopefully with all the walking I should be ok.

I keep having Disney dreams also! My husband thinks I'm crazy :rotfl:

Congrats. I was worried about weight gain too so I worked out in the fitness center in the morning . I did ok and only gained a couple so u can do it!

Hmm....secret entrance? I must know more! I once heard about a small gated walkway that is the very closest way to Epcot- is that the secret entrance you refer to? I'm intrigued :scratchin

The easiest way to find it is coming back from Epcot . At the bottom of the bridge there is a small gated path . Take it and you will see the door where u can gain entry

Can you believe I'm still switch ADRs around?

we had a fabulous meal there. Service and food were :thumbsup2

Here is the post about the "secret" entrance from the BC section of Page 1.

We found the entrance (well, exit) by following the room number signs to Room 1501 from the lobby.

Step-Saving Super Secret Entrance to the Beach Club

There is a side entrance/exit to the Beach Club which takes you mere steps, probably 3 minutes, from the International Gateway Entrance. It is near room 1501.

This was really handy for us a couple of times this summer when it was wicked hot and when it had just started pouring.

You have to go through a lot of hallways to find it, so the best way to do

this is to follow the signs to room 1501 from the lobby.

Here are photos of the exit door near room 1501, the pathway and the gate to the "secret entrance"

Ok so I have been back for 24 hours and I wanted to reflect and let everyone know some thoughts I had about our first BC stay:goodvibes

It was DH and myself . We are a mid thirties couple that loves WDW. Well I love WDW and DH is coming around, especially after staying at BC. We loved it.

From the moment we arrived we were immersed in an atmosphere that is amazing and hard to put in words . This was to be a relaxing type trip aNd it was:)
DH loves TSM so we went to DHS at RD and did TSM and sometimes added a few other rides. We then would spend the day at SAB before showering and going to dinner or a stroll around the WS

SAB was amazing. DH was worried about it being loud and overrun with kids but there were so many small nooks and crannies to hang out in we loved it. The sand bottom pools were fantastic and the lazy river ohhh the lazy river rocked:cool1: Rocky one of the pool bar waitresses was so attentive and she was so friendly and Dh liked that she remembered his drink from the first one he ordered on day one:rolleyes:
We ate at beaches and cream a few times and it is such a fun place... Plus it played into my ice cream addiction. ( that and the fact that Mickey bars were readily available at HH):cool2:
We had a fabulous meal at the Yachtsman. The filet was perfect and Oscar our server was wonderful.
We also ate at CA Grill for some sushi:thumbsup2 and Via Napoli for the pizza which DH can't get enough of.

I used the fitness center every morning and was pleasantly surprised with how nice it was. Also the lockers came in handy on check out day.

We had a GV room and had a lovely view of the courtyard and could also see the water. In fact we joked because we could watch the movie on the beach from our balcony which we spent lots of time on at night .

The service here was top notch. The CMs were so friendly and of course we met Teena which was so nice to do. We had a little chat and now DH wants to go to a dude ranch:lmao: I told him as long as it doesn't interfere with trips back to the BC .
We lovedd our stay and decided it was one of our absolute favorite vacations ever. We want to thank everyone on this thread for all the tips and info. We have a 3 night trip planned for FWF in november. Can't wait to go back

THANK YOU!!!! I just printed it up, and will put it into my Disney binder when I go upstairs!

Natebenma,
What a helpful tip! I printed it out, too. Will be fun to use the secret entrance.:thumbsup2

Couchy,
Loved your updates! Glad you had a wonderful stay. :cool1:

Big news of the day, we've changed our stay for Nov. We're now at the Beach Club! Will only be for a couple of days, but we'll be traveling with our son, daughter in law and 5yo GS. :goodvibes
I am so excited for GS to spend time in Stormalong Bay! :beach:

Totally not crazy. I'll be out there almost every night (depending on how late we are at the parks) for a run!

Teena - Loved the dude ranch pictures! Thanks for sharing (via Dee :) )

So nice to hear about your great trip.

Thinking of switching from BWI to Yacht or Beach Club/ BCV but can't decide on which one! I've stayed at YC twice and love it + it's the same price as what BC would be and BCV would be a tad cheaper.

Any thoughts?? It would be for 2 nights either way it would be a standard room or studio villa .

Thanks!!
