OLD THREAD: 2012 Beach and Yacht FAQ, Part 2- May, June and July DON'T POST HERE!

Regarding online check-in and requests- I think they may have recently updated these features. I read on another thread that most resorts now have their popular requests available for selection when you do online check-in. When I checked in for BC the other day (Woohoo! :cool1:), my options for requests were full balcony, small balcony, ground floor, or near transportation.

Hmmm, that's good to know. When I made my reservation by phone 6 months ago, I requested a full balcony and was intending on NOT doing online check-in. However, we won't arrive until around 7:00 pm-ish, and I started thinking that online check-in might actually be a good thing in my case before they give out all of the GV full balcony rooms for the day. If you do actually have an option re: balcony requests on the online check-in (even though I did mention that already on the phone), maybe I should do that after all. :confused3

I am looking for a hotel for one day pre cruise and one day post cruise. We arrive in the afternoon and leave early am to go home. Is this the place to stay? Looking for hotel with activities so I dont have to buy passes as a one day is too much money. Is there enough to entertain two teens? Is a standard room good enough? Any advice would be welcome. Ps in the past we stayed at value (4 different ones), BLT (1), WL (almost every visit), OKW (1). Over the value, looking for more.

Can anyone tell me if the BC room safes are big enough for 2 Ipads? Also, are they the set-your-combination type, or are they keyed? Thanks!

I have a question about about the toiletries. What sorts of things do they provide? I thought I read that it's H2O products, which I have to admit, I know nothing about, but they seem to be a favorite of the regulars, so I'm thinking that I shouldn't pack what will be provided...so what exactly is in the room/bathroom?

I think it's safe to assume shampoo and condintioner. But what about things like lotion? What else is there?

Thanks to Disney, I have been hooked on the H2O products for years! Love them ! Here is their website:

http://www.h2oplus.com/ Ulta also carries H2O products.

My understanding is some of the resorts are changing the specific H2O line, but the deluxe resorts with exception of GF provided the Aquatics line (shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, soap, lotion). The GF provided the Spa line - love the Spa line Sea Salt Hydrating body butter especially. If you are staying CL - Solar Relief Gel, mouthwash also provided. Think that is all.

Thank you! No CL here, unless we are blessed with an unexpected upgrade. And maybe I'll have to make a stop at Ulta to check them out before our trip.

Subscribing. We have our first stay at the Beach Club coming up 2-8 Dec 12. We are a party of 8 (my best friend (for 40 years), her husband, DD11, DD8, her mom and dad (who are like my 2nd mom and dad), me and my DS14). We previously traveled together in Oct 10 and had a wonderful trip.

Have been reading all the BC/YC information and am a little overwhelmed but still have 6 months to process it all, although only 8 days until we can make our dining reservations though.

Hi Everyone!:disrocks:

:welcome:

:cool1:

I'll add you to the Page 1 Be Our Guest list.

Glad you have some time to study up! This is a great place to hang out while killing time until your trip.

As far as dining goes, there's lots of great places nearby: at the resort (Cape May Clambake, Captain's Grille, Yachtsman), over at the Boardwalk and the World Showcase, of course!

Good luck and let us know what you book.

Hi everyone

I've just been reading through this thread, I'm off to the Yacht Club in November 2013 (AGEEEEEES away) for a special birthday celebration trip.

We have 2 weeks booked already, and I'm building the excitement by looking at pictures of my beloved Yacht Club!

I've always wanted to stay here since I was a young child, and I've stayed in the Newport Bay Club hotel in DLRP which is a similar theme.

1 year and 6 months to go!

:welcome:

:woohoo:

We just started the 2013 list, so I'll add you to it.

We will be at the BCV July 20-22 and then BWV 22-30.
We are new to the DVC and this will be our first visit !!!!!!!

Our DD's (19/16) have no idea. They think we are staying at the All Star's.
Epcot is our favorite park and the girls love walking around the world everynight ... I can not wait to have them "walk home" that first night !!!

Any helpfull hints about staying at either of these DVC's resorts would be GREAT !!!

Looking at all the wonderful photos and though all the information here on the disboards is getting me soooooooo excited ... Thanks !!!!!!

:welcome:

:cheer2:

I'll add you to the list.

And A BigThank You To All That Made This Possible

This is really great, Mike! Thanks for posting it!

Anyone have the recipe for the Sunken Treasure?

It is on Page 1, of course! On the Community Page.

Sunken Treasure: The unofficial beverage of the Beach and Yacht Club FAQ forum:

sunkentreasure.jpg

Contents: Malibu Rum, Midori, orange juice, pineapple juice and Sprite with a splash of BOLS Blue Curacao.

Thanks, pixarmom and Feckless, for the photos!

Please note that the Sunken Treasure is no longer on the menu at Hurricane Hanna's, however if you get a bartender who knows how to make the drink, you may still be in luck!

Thanks for (re)posting this! Did you post a couple of days ago indicating you had some choices? But maybe daybed wasn't one of them? I didn't know about this change to the online res. process. Thanks for clarifying.

BTW- who is requesting the small balcony???

I am looking for a hotel for one day pre cruise and one day post cruise. We arrive in the afternoon and leave early am to go home. Is this the place to stay? We all think so!!! There is a lot to do at and around the resort:

Best pool on property with fun activities
Nightly campfire and movie
Fireworks views from resort
Boardwalk is close by

As far as room size go, they are all essentially the same in all view categories: standard, garden view and water view. I believe that most of the rooms at the resort are similar in size whether standard or club level. Some of the layouts of the rooms may be different though, but not based on view or standard vs. club level. They just are.

Can anyone tell me if the BC room safes are big enough for 2 Ipads? Also, are they the set-your-combination type, or are they keyed? Thanks!

I'll see if I can find a photo of the safe.

ETA- Here is a picture. The safes are not huge. I believe when we stayed last in 2010 the room safes were keyed.

Yes, this is the place - pool easily is a day activity, but also walking distance to miniature golf, Boardwalk area has some entertainment in evenings and a few "boardwalk type" games. Given your short stay Standard view would be just fine if you are not at all concerned with the view. My boys loved the YC / BC for years and now one is out of his teens!

Thank you for adding me to the Be Our Guest list!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now I feel "official"! :goodvibes

Garden View wasn't available when we booked, and we didn't want to pay the premium for the water view, so we really felt like we had comprimised with our standard view booking, but in the end we loved our view.

It was a beautiful view and we would willingly book standard view again.

I was only able to get standard view. I did call and request full balcony and was told it had already been noted. I am going to continue to try to get garden view but can you tell me what standard was really like? I normally do not care about view but DH and I really like to sit on the balcony together when we are at Disney. I'll look at a parking lot if I have to but hope that there might be a little more in store :wizard::wizard:

I am soooooo very sad tonight - we have to once again this year postpone our trip due to my darn wisdom teeth :sad1::sad1::sad1:

A shout out of "THANK YOU!!!" to all of our Veterans, Active Service Personnel and their families for the sacrifices they make for all of us.:grouphug:

Thank you! I just saw a sad post on FB. My nephew served for ten years in the USMC. His brother 5 years. He has cousins still serving. My Dad, his Dad and every one of my Uncles served in WWII. His lovely GF ex stated that he has no reason to be grateful for those who died protecting this Nation, after all he is not a citizen..........................:headache::sad2: What a disrespectful attitude for a guest of our Great Nation to have.

Thank you to all our Military and their families. Freedom is not Free!

Little known fact - you CAN request turn down service, even if you are not staying CL. Turn down service is routine for CL but they will do it for a non-cl room is you make a request.

We did it when we stayed at the Poly in a non-cl room and also at YC.

We also had it at the Poly and it was wonderful. What was especially nice was the Mousekeeping manager and the resort manager paid us a visit on our first day. I know that this is a sensitive issue here on the DIS but they told DD that there would be plenty of towel animals for my little DGD and that they were meant for her to keep. Needless to say.......................lots of tipping going on! DD made little envelopes to leave the tips in and every morning and every evening we let them for the staff.

Ours was keyed. Definitely big enough for one iPad. If I had to lay money on it, I would guess two would fit but might fall out when you open the door! LOL

we stayed CL in early May and there was no solar relief gel. Everything else was there.

Yes - definitely!!! We did this last August - pre-cruise at BWI CL and post-cruise at BC CL. No park tickets for that trip - but TONS to do around the Crescent Lake area. That's one of the things we love about BC for a non-parks stay - it's like having five resorts in one, with all the shopping and dining at YC, BWI, Swan and Dolphin so close. We really enjoyed CL at BWI, but BC is still our favorite - can't beat SAB. SAB is especially wonderful after swimming in the pools on the Dream - we swam early in the morning on the ship, but were out of the pools by 10am - easy for us because SAB was just a couple days away!

The only negative was that it was very difficult to be so close to Epcot and not have park tickets!

Thanks for the advice. I think I will go with this over MCO hyatt as there seems to be not much to do there except for the great access to planes. Do you prefer BC or YC? Funny thing is when the kids were little they were selling time share for $3k for a week there. This trip it is $500 + night just for a standard room. How often do they do discounts for this hotel? As I said we are frequent visitors to WL. I would stay there for the price but looking for new and exciting. If I have a standard room does the balcony make a difference. Is the view really that bad? I would stay at BLT again as we had a MK view once but I think that would be mean to DD (my disney nut). Looking forward to our trip in Aug WL and this trip in April on the Fantasy. I figure I have these two more vacations before they no longer want to go away with us.

We really enjoyed the standard view. If we looked straight down we could see the roof of the Yachtsman, but we mostly looked out and loved it.

Check out my trip report at http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2900213. I've posted a bunch of our view pictures.

I sat my iPad in the safe and then put other stuff in front of it that was thicker than my iPad, so I think you could do two with no other stuff in front of it. There is room to the side of it for a few small things. My safe was keyed.

Happy Memorial Day to everyone. I hope everyone thinks about our fallen veterans. My father served in the Marines in the early 1960's and I lost him last year. Today I think of him and all those who have served, especially those who died in service.

Oh and one more thing.... GO DARK SIDE!!!!!

(of course, the Beach club looks so nice.... )

I loved your TR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am now feeling better about the view. My DD will probably try to get GV but no worries if we cannot. We are resort folks and plan on enjoying the amenities for the first few days of our visit. We have never been to WDW during a big Holiday since my own kids were very young and always try to go during low attendance. No worries if everyone is in the parks, we will be parked at the beach!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am an early riser. When we stayed CL at AKL the lounge was open early for coffee. How early can I get coffee at BC? Also, the CM's let me take a glass of wine back to the room so i could enjoy the balcony while my family was getting ready for dinner. Can I do this here as well? We don't really care about the food offerings, we may nibble a bit but will probably not need to rely on appetizers before dinner. IIRC, my family liked meeting back at the lounge for a cocktail and small sweet after dinner and returning from the parks.

So far the IPO has been crazy wonderful! Our 180- day window was the day after I booked so making sure we had dinner ADR's for that Thanksgiving Day and the weekend was made so much easier with their assistance. It is going to be a looooooooong 6 months!

I'm an early riser, too! :coffee:

I'll have someone else answer your question about when coffee is available, though. After my last stay at the BC, the Concierge Lounges went to 24 hours for drinks (coffee and soda), but the lounge maybe closed right before they are setting up for each of the food service periods. So it could be closed right before the 7 am breakfast opening.

What have others experienced recently?

Yes, you can absolutely take a glass of wine, or can of soda or plate of food for nibbling or some dessert back to your room and your balcony to enjoy.

Just doing a quick check in!!! Loving our vacation so far.

Teena: I CAN'T believe we missed you yesterday!!! we spent the day at MK, and planned on returning mid day for a swim........................then the sky opened up. We took "shelter" on the Monorail and decided to "resort Hop" until it stopped. Well after it lasted for quite some time we decided to have our dinner at Kona (which was great by the way) and then hit MK after that.

Overall even with the ugly day Sunday, and the rain on Monday we are having a blast.

Now, off to grab a quick coffee and snack then heading to DHS.

And in 2 weeks she will deserve :drinking1 :drinking1 :drinking1 :rotfl2:
Can't wait to hear all about it!
:rotfl2::rotfl2:
Reading this thread everyday has inspired Dh and I to turn out back patio into a little oasis here in WNY. We went shopping and came home with a patio conversation set, fireplace, tiki torches, outdoor accent area rug, string lights and a few big tropical looking plants! It is 88 degrees and I am chilling on the chase lounge imaging that I am in the world!

The only thing that remains to be done is the addition of a bar to serve up tropical drinks:cool2:
:cool1:Wish I was close enough to visit:)

Glad to hear you are enjoying my report.

I'm not much of a coffee drinker, so I cannot comment on the timing, but as Dee said you can take any food or drink back to your room.

I hear you on the long 6 months, but hopefully time flies by and it will be here before you know it.
