I am hoping for input from those who have traveled with the new federal govt security regulations on checked luggage.
I usually have pins in checked and carry-on.
Wondering the best way now.
TIA

I traveled in Nov. with pins/lanyard/book in my carry on and had no problems either going to WDW or coming home. I think you'd be safe to pack them either way. Personally, I prefer to carry them with me, since they represent a substantial investment (for me, at least).

I put my pinbag in my carry-on bag, and take it out, and put it in the "laptop bin"...ready for their inspection...usually goes quite fast....

Traveled the first week of December. Put my pin bag in my backpack. I did have the bag searched (one screener said it was all the metal), but the screeners were fast and very careful of the contents. Remember if your bag is searched that you cannot touch it or you get searched too.

I've have flown with pins even as recent as October.
But I am wondering about the new regulations that just very recent (this week?) took place. :(
All the pins I take (both ways) won't fit in one pin bag. I may have to take two bags (carry-on) and really cram them in.

While waiting in the line for pin # 12 for MVMCP talked to two people. we discussed what to do now that they cannot lock their bags. We unanimously agreed that Fed-Exing them to ourselves down here and insuring the package "seems" to be the best solution for now. Anyone else?

I know I would not be willing to ship mine if I could not lock it or keep it on board with me.

I just flew with my pins last week. I carried them on the plane as a large amount of metal in a checked bag could raise a flag. In the carry-on I didn't have any trouble. Just told the worker that it was lapel pins that she was seeing. In Orlando they didn't even ask
As for the locking bag thing....I cannot imagine NOT locking my bags. When I flew last week they had me open my bag at the curbside and they went through it...I didn't like that much, but I was then able to lock it. The worker told me that it was random if your bag was to be searched or not. The thought of workers being able to go through my bags without my being present, or the risk of it being opened by ANYONE and items stollen really makes me uneasy.

Sue Ellen,
I agree with you about locking your bags. I don't think I would fly if I couldn't lock my bags.
As for the searching of all your bags, I think that is a great idea if they do it while you are present. Many other countries do it with EVERY piece of luggage. In Thailand it took them less time to go through my 2 suitcases and 2 carry ons than it does here to get my carry on and purse run through the x-ray machine. And there were more people in line for the search than there normally are for the x-rays.

My sister flew out of Polland last month and no one looked at any of their bags or cared what she had. She said it made her feel a little uneasy. (She was a chaperone with several school kids flying from L.A. and back.)

I was thinking too about FedEx-ing them down and back. It would probably be at least 150 pins (or so  ) going down, and 200 coming back.
What did you insure yours for?

We flew with pin bags in September with no problems. We carry them in rolling backpacks 2 in each one, we just take them out and run each bag seperately. We tell the person before they send them trhough what they are. They x-ray them and we're done.

I also flew last week with checked bags only. I locked them and nothing was said, they went right through.
