Old owners

When the weekend points were different than the weekdays, our trips always began on a Sunday and we'd check out on Friday. !
and as a result I could take advantage of the Florida resident cheaper weekday only yearly pass! :rolleyes2 With the point reallocation, doesn't matter anymore.

Back in the early days a studio at The Disney Vacation Club (now OKW) was 69 points a week for Adventure Season, 7 points Sun-Thurs and 17 Fri and Sat. A Grand Villa was only 31 points Sun-Thurs.

Yes I miss those days. The reallocation has not been kind to our trips. Somehow it feels like none of the rooms actually went down.

I do miss the Food and Fun option. We spent so many days our on pontoon boats. Just a fabulous time.

We bought resale in 1996. Had the free park passes through 1999. The good old days for sure!

Does anyone remember the controversy about the final year for free passes, 1999? Our family used all our 1999 points for a stay during the summer. We decided to do a short trip in October to take advantage of the free park admissions one more time. However, DVC said I could not borrow year 2000 points to stay in 1999, and still get the passes. I pointed out and read to them over the phone the language in our documents that stated we get them when we stay there before 2000, while they mention nothing about what points could or could not be used. I got nowhere with them, but in a following issue of the newsletter they said members could borrow points and still get the passes. I assumed someone made an issue of it, or went to whatever FL agency regulates timeshares. In any case, we did get our final mini trip in October 1999 with free park passes.

Yes, apparently a member (? lawyer) pushed the issue and they had legal review it. They came to the same conclusion you did. We did our first full family trip to OKW in 1999, borrowed most all our points and got free passes. There were some VB members that got free passes as well and subsidized dues.

Member of BWV since 1999. Really miss being able to plan semi last minute trips. I live in Florida so easy drive. Now everything is booked!

Member since year 1. The passes were a great perk that lasted through 1999. We didn't go to AK until 2000 since it was not included in the passes when it opened. Also, remember free weekly wine and food parties outside by Olivia's. We were able to go for 12 nights in a 1 bedroom in the summer before the point reallocation. Also, you couldn't buy small contracts like you can now. I believe 230 points was the minimum.

I remember when you got a glass stirrer in your drinks at the bar by the pool at OKW. Those got killed for safety reasons. Still have my collection of stirrers.

I had to go look in my cupboard to see if I had any of these left. I got them at the Polynesian. Mine are glass birds (parrots) on the end of a glass stir stick. I remember trying to get a set but they discontinued them.

I remember the Fiestaware when I first bought at BWV in 2000. In particular I remember the sugar and cream set on the little serving tray. Some of those survived for a bit even after they went to plain old white dishes.

OMG the AK pass thing. Forgot all about that! I do remember some contentious posts on other forums - For and opposed to the minimum

I lived in cold weather all my life until I moved to Texas in my 50s. Now I can hardly tolerate anything below 60F for very long. But then unlike the hardy folks in the posts above the cold always bothered me. :cold:

I'll have to review my 1992 prospectus but I'm thinking the original stated ticket allotment was less than above but what's above was what actually was followed. The original banking wording only allowed banking of half of a years points IIRC.

Hmm, I can't recall what the actual verbiage was. I just remembered it as two passes per bedroom for each night of your stay. But that is most likely my own simplified version so I could keep it straight!

Makes you wonder how many of us who joined in year one crossed paths way back then. I just miss the simplicity.

You got 2 tickets for a stay in a studio or 1 BR, 4 tickets for a stay in a 2 BR and 6 tickets for a stay in a GV. It didn't matter if everyone was a member or even if the were not a member, as long as you used points you got the tickets. We got 8 years of those and it really was sticker shock when we had to stay paying for ticket again. Sure would be nice to bring that back!!!
I think that’s what I remember too.

Well since you brought it up, yes I really dislike the size of the other DVC. It didn’t take them long to figure out that if they made them smaller, they could maximize the profits $$$$$. BWV is one of my least favorite resorts, great location but really tight. You get a 2 bedroom and you have to eat in shifts, it’s so small. Suppose to be for 8, 8 what, gnomes! And I’m always surprised when people diss OKW for not having a better QS like « Mara », hello, there’s a full kitchen! I’m not a fan of the long twilight zone hallways, I prefer to park in front of my villa!
We’ve been DVC members since early 1993.
I remember the Fiestaware dinnerware, the placemats, napkins and napkin rings and the coral colored towels.
I can understand why they got rid of the towels (and the placemats and napkins). Those must have been a nightmare to wash. They were also apparently a magnet for stealing (along with the Fiestaware).

The first time we stayed at BWV, we were really surprised at the size and how tight it was. Our daughter uses a wheelchair and can’t walk. To get into the living room, we literally have to move the chairs away from the table so she can get back and forth from the bedroom/bathroom area to the living room. Her wheelchair is pretty narrow.

Pulled out my Public Offering Statement and the Limited Park Admission Plan specifies 2 tickets per Use Day for a studio or 1 bedroom, 4 tickets for a 2 bedroom and 6 tickets for a 3 bedroom. The program specified the 3 existing parks and the end date was December 31, 1999. It also stated that it was only for purchasers of certain Units selected by DVD. Also, renters or exchangers did not get this benefit.

That "use day" was interesting, you had a choice of the tickets being valid the day you arrived or the day you checked out.

Yes. Meant to put that, but didn’t know how to word it.
All of the users of the tickets didn’t have to be members, but the member had to be registered to the room.
The ‘purchasers of certain units selected by DVC’ was because it was a purchase incentive during a certain time period (ie for the ownership interest in the building were that were bought during that time).

I believe it was only offered a few years, maybe until 1994-95 to those that purchased Vero or OKW. I think it was dropped before BWV was available.

Agree it was 1994-95. We toured (they watched the kids and gave them ice cream....took a family photo with a hot air balloon background) - the passes were not part of the deal and my husband thought if he walked away they would soon call him with an offer including the passes. They didn't!! He passed away in 1998 and I bought in 2001 and never regretted it!!!

My earliest one I have says 4 for a 3 BR, 3 for a 2BR, 2 for a 1BR and 1 for a studio. I was beginning to doubt my recollection and finally had time to check. Limited to the # of occupants if less than the max. And it didn't include admission to AK initially, that was added later after much discussion. It was amended as Exhibit 4A Jan 1992 to the 6/4/2/2.
