Old owners

You got 2 tickets for a stay in a studio or 1 BR, 4 tickets for a stay in a 2 BR and 6 tickets for a stay in a GV. It didn't matter if everyone was a member or even if the were not a member, as long as you used points you got the tickets. We got 8 years of those and it really was sticker shock when we had to stay paying for ticket again. Sure would be nice to bring that back!!!

God, those Park tickets were a great perk. That’s why my mom brought our best friends along on our family trips when my sister and I were young (they purchased in 1993)

I'll have to review my 1992 prospectus but I'm thinking the original stated ticket allotment was less than above but what's above was what actually was followed. The original banking wording only allowed banking of half of a years points IIRC.

I remember the banking rule!

6 years and ditto - not only were they not free but the youngest aged out of free and the oldest was 9

I What I always wonder is that OKW is so different from BWV, as far as "hotel-y feel", how did members' react to BWV? Did some really dislike the "direction DVC is going"?
Well since you brought it up, yes I really dislike the size of the other DVC. It didn’t take them long to figure out that if they made them smaller, they could maximize the profits $$$$$. BWV is one of my least favorite resorts, great location but really tight. You get a 2 bedroom and you have to eat in shifts, it’s so small. Suppose to be for 8, 8 what, gnomes! And I’m always surprised when people diss OKW for not having a better QS like « Mara », hello, there’s a full kitchen! I’m not a fan of the long twilight zone hallways, I prefer to park in front of my villa!

I liked that banking, I was sorry to see it go away. I think X was 6 months, Y was 3 months and Z was 1 month.

I remember banking having a staggered window...bank by month X of your use year and you could bank 100%, bank by Y month and you could bank up to 50%, bank by Z month and you could bank 25% of your total annual point allotment.
At least two of my trips were due to forgetting the banking window

We've been BWV members since 1999. I first learned about DVC on the DIS!(I was reading before joining!).

I remember when BCV was announced, we were really excited because of Storm-a-long Bay.

I miss the Fiestaware...we went to Aulani in December 2011, and they had the all-white set. I thought it was unique to Aulani! Haha.

I remember when MS would call when a waitlist matched, to see if you really wanted it!

We bought in 1997, right after they stopped giving passes to purchasers. What I liked was booking by the check out day instead of check in day. That way everyone was equal, except for booking day by day for those hard to book vacations. And the Christmas lottery. You didn't know if you had a Christmas trip until you won that lottery. We hit the MNSSHP on our first trip and there were only two of them, Oct 30 and Oct 31. Just two. Plus October was a quiet time of year. We had a Magic Kingdom Club card through our employer that got us lots of discounts.

The free park tickets were wonderful and I agree that paying for them once it was over wasn’t fun!:scared: Our first stay was in May 1992 on Turtle Pond. The rest of the resort wasn’t complete yet. It was called Disney Vacation Club, not yet Old Key West. I remember conversations at the bus stop with other owners wondering whether this new Disney concept would be popular. We get a good laugh remembering that now. :rotfl:And at the theme parks - Epcot comes to mind especially - the bus stop was very close to the exit, a real pleasure after a long day.

When did they stop doing that? I remember MS calling us just a few years ago (2013 or 2014) for that. Our WL for BCV came through for the F&W and they called to see if we really wanted it. Hello, OF COURSE-it's an Epcot resort during the F&W! Maybe she called because she was an "old" CM at MS and didn't know NOT to call!

I recall you had to be all in for the Christmas Lottery. If you were picked, the points were gone. They called for waitlists. Is that what you remember?

We stayed at Turtle Pond, too - for years.

I don't remember when they stopped calling, but I feel like it coincided with on-line bookings (2012?)....

I miss the OKW midweek 8 point night Studios. We would do mid winter Stays for 3 nights starting on Sunday for 24 points. Nice getaway from the
NH winters.
When the weekend points were different than the weekdays, our trips always began on a Sunday and we'd check out on Friday. And those were always busy days at the front desk!!
