I have some old magic bands that are probably 5-6 years old, we will try to use them but if they don't work, can you use old cards that are linked to your account even if you have added tickets since? Do those methods still work?

You can use both the MBs and the RF cards. Just make sure they are still activated in your MDE (Account > MagicBands & Cards) section. Please note that they are assigned to specific individuals and are not interchangeable.

The MB's batteries are long dead and can't be used with the Long Range RF Transmitters for Ride Pictures and Attraction enhanced interactions. But they will work great to tap into parks and attractions. And for charging to your resort folio if you staying at a Disney resort.

MB serve two different functions, one requires the battery to be working, the other does not. Batteries can't be replaced as they are built into the MB. Even if the battery is dead, you can still use your band for the other function. Battery life varies based on a number of factors.

Good question. We have some about the same age.

The cards work for everything? Charging, resort locks?

Great question. Here's one that's similar. Can you still get a simple room key when checking in? I have family coming soon and they might not buy park tickets but will be staying onsite. I know they can use their phone, but some of them don't want an MDE account. They just want a room key and a credit card for food, etc.

Yes, the cards work for everything that requires you to tap. They don’t work for linking long distance, such as ride photos that don’t have tap points.

Yes, they can get a room key card that will work to open the door and for charging to their rooms. If they do buy park tickets, the tickets can be linked to the same card, so they only need to keep track of one card per person.

We had no problems using old Magic Bands on a recent reservation, but the couple of cards I had brought did NOT work. We were able to get new cards at the front desk though.
