I will be staying in a studio at OKY from5/1/07 thru 5/11/07 and I was wondering are the laundry machines free? Where are they located? Do I have to buy detergent there or can I bring my own? Are they always filled? Can't wait to go. This will be my first time staying in a DVC Thanks Again, Scott

Washers and dryers are located near the pools at OKW (unless you get a one bedroom or larger - then they are in your villa). They are free. Each laundry room has maybe two washers and four dryers. There are vending machines with single load detergent. Or they might have it in larger sizes in the store. Or you can bring your own/buy it from a grocery store off the Disney property.

You have to stay with your laundry - that is, hang out at the pool or trot back and forth between your villa and the laundry room to get your clothes out of the washer and dryer as you complete each load. With so few washers and dryers, it's a big inconvenience to others to arrive and find clothes finished in the washer, dryer empty. Or clothes in the dryer, not spinning, just sitting there. Many people will unload your stuff, lay it wherever they can find space and do their laundry.

Finding a vacant machine is the luck of the draw.

Deb gave you a good rundown. Just be aware that ALL the pools have a laundry room, so there are 4 on site. The quiet pools are actually the easiest to access and are usually closest to most rooms unless you are near hospitality house. The machines LOOK like coin op ones, and have the coin slots, but no need to plug money in them. We brought along an OXYCLEAN BALL this time, and it was the easiest thing we have ever brought along for clothes washing. BTW, the in room laundry is just one of the many reasons we do a 1 bedroom instead of a studio.

Agree with Deb and Diane about having in room laundry with 1 bdrm......I juggle points if need be to get a 1 bdrm over studio partially for that reason and the king size bed......we have ks at home and it's very difficult going from that to a queen in a studio.
