Old Key West: is it worth it?

Hi! We are thinking of doing a quick trip in August...but OKW and SSR are available. No one else except me wants to go to SSR, so OKW is the last available choice. We might have the chance to go next year, but we also might not. And if we don't go next year, then all our points will be forfeited. So here's the question.

How is Old Key West? Has anybody been there recently? I would appreciate any input available. Thanks guys!

We own at BWV but LOVE OKW. In most cases we choose OKW because of the bigger room sizes and the proximity of parking. If we bring family or friends we often let them pick the resort and then BWV frequently wins out. But if it were up to me we'd almost always be at OKW.

I'd say heck yeah, you should go! It will be a nice change of pace for you, I'm sure, with its own perks you'll enjoy. Just different than what you are used to perhaps.

We are owners. We would say it mos' def' IS worth it. You will love it. Roomy, quiet, and good bus service everywhere in the World. Did I say roomy?

OKW has been our home resort and resort of choice for almost 10 years - comfortable, roomy and beautiful!!!!!!! My last trip there was last August, but DS and his GF were just there in June and said it was perfection!!!!!!!!! My next trip will be to OKW in November and I can't wait - try it, I think you won't be disappointed!!!

Our home resort is VWL & SSR and we have never stayed anywhere but OKW. It is the best. Quiet, secluded and you can park right in front of your room. Great views of the golf course.

Go to OKW or not go at all and lose your points, are you kidding me? Get your butt to OKW ASAP and have a great time.

OKW is our home resort....twice!!!! We have 2 contracts there, and are very happy to stya there. The units are very large...the largest of all the DVC units, you can park right in front of your unit, the bus service is usually pretty good (or at least it has been in my experience), the pace is nice and relaxed. There's not a thing not to love about OKW!

PS- I would NEVER, EVER let points be lost!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now for OKW. We recently stayed there in Mar. It is different I must say from WLV and all the other DVC resorts. But that is what makes it and all other DVC resorts so charming. They go beyond being a typical hotel room.

OKW is charming. I think all the DVC resorts have gotten their fair share of a bad rap. I know when we 1st purchased WLV, all of a sudden we started getting neg. feedback about it. I was thinking what have we done. I was thinking sell and hadnt even seen the place yet. Thank goodness Granny, Maistre Gracey, KNWVIKING and many others set my fears to rest.

My advice to you like theirs to me, try it out. You might love it or you may never want to go back. But YOU be the judge.

If I were going to give up points, you better believe I would be at OKW in a heartbeat!! Go and have fun. Let us know what you think when you get back.

Sounds like DW and myself. If it's just the two of us it's OKW, we love the layed back atmosphere. But when we take down friends (that usually don't go to WDW) we pamper them with BWV. With a big group is just easier to have everything near by (aka the Boardwalk and all the shops/restraunts are a short walk).

We "tried" it once, and promptly had to find a resale contract to buy.

Way bigger rooms, huge terraces, wonderful ambience, lovely grounds. We got spoiled and had to own!!

I wasn't sure I was going to like OKW that much before we went there on rented points. I fell in love with it & returned home to find ourselves purchasing a contract at OKW. We love it.

You're the only one that can judge whether you'll like it or not. Definitely give it a try. I bet you'll be pleasantly surprised!

Since everyone's tastes are different, you will have to judge for yourself, BUT what's not to like! Enjoy what OKW has to offer. We love it. Even if it's not to your liking, you're still at Disney and what's so bad about that.

It is a wonderful resort -- condo style, large villas, laid back.

We own at Boardwalk and love it, but also enjoy trying different places to stay. This past May we picked OKW and really enjoyed it. Didn't fall in love with it like others have said, but liked it a lot more than our stay at VWL. As someone else said -that's the great thing about DVC - you get lots of variety.

I say give OKW a try this trip. You may just love it, but even if you don't you're still at WDW!

I love OKW. I own at WLV and SSR but most of my stays are at OKW.
I love the fact that the rooms are larger, the two beds so the person I bring along doesn't have to sleep on the sofa.
I love being able to park my car right outside my door. I love being able to walk from my room and go to the nearest pool which is almost deserted. I love waking up in the morning and having my cup of tea and watching the terrible golfers hunt in the bushes outside my patio for their balls. I love the fact that I had a cardinal and a blue jay eating popcorn right off the balcony last week. (It's the ony thing I had to feed them and they loved it) I love the fact that I have my own entrance and don't have to walk the halls to get to my room.
I can go on and on, the only thing I don't love is that I didn't make my mind up right away about DVC and OKW was sold out when I finally decided to buy. I loved to stay at WL but after staying at OKW I have only stayed at my home resort one time in 4 years.
I will take OKW anytime. Peggie

OKW is our home resort and we are crazy about it! I recommend it very highly! The rest of my family is headed to Orlando next week and staying at OKW. I am going the following week to join them, but we’ll be moving over to SSR. I am looking forward to seeing the newest DVC resort, but have pangs about not staying at OKW this year. I'll be heading over to Olivia's for sure!!

I think you will be very happy staying at OKW!

WE LOVE OKW. We have owned there since the start of DVC, i.e. OKW was called the Disney Vacation Club. Although we try every other resort & have opted to try SSR for our Aug. trip, we are alway happy to stay at OKW. We enjoy the atmosphere. But the number 1 reason is the parking. We don't do major cooking while on vacation, but we shop at least twice for a week long stay and the ability to park in front of your unit, makes coming & going (with or without groceries) a pleasure.

The only problem will that when you get back you may want to go again and be short of points instead!!!
